It may still be early in the Major League Baseball season, but for two teams, to borrow a phrase from Yogi Berra, it got late early as the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies fired their respective managers.

Managers may not be the ones putting the rosters together (that falls to the head of baseball operations) but when those players don't perform, it's more often than not the managers who take the blame.

Mets fans, frustrated by their own team's won-loss record, might have been hoping to see recently fired Alex Cora be hired by the team.

Two things happened.

The Phillies called Cora first, and Alex turned them down basically saying he wants to spend time with his kids on the beach in Puerto Rico.

Meanwhile, Anthony Volpe is expected to come off the injured list and subsequent minor league rehab assignment, but there's more to his return to the team than meets the eye.
