Stay Anchored | Matthew 24:4–5 | Guarding Against Spiritual Deception
In Matthew 24:4–5, Jesus Christ begins His warning about the end times with one critical command: watch out for deception. False voices often sound convincing, use Scripture, and even claim to represent Christ. In a world filled with endless opinions, algorithms, and influencers, the only way to recognize a counterfeit is to know the real Jesus deeply. This message challenges men to stay anchored in Scripture so truth—not culture—shapes their faith.
Reflection:
Who is shaping my understanding of Jesus right now—Christ Himself, or the voices competing for my attention?
Challenge:
Before opening your phone each day this week, spend 15 minutes in the Bible asking God to sharpen your discernment.
All right, and deception, it rarely screams. Okay, it's not loud. Oftentimes it's a whisper. Hey, I'm Sean, and this is the Restoring Warriors Daily Devotional, where every day we go line by line through Scripture and we do a devotional. Right now we're in the book of Matthew. We've made it all the way to chapter 24. And we're in verses four and five today where it says this Jesus answered, Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name claiming I am the Messiah, and many will deceive. All right, so the disciples, they pulled Jesus aside when they were asking him about the end of the age. Jesus didn't start with wars or disasters. He started with deception. He said, Watch out. Okay, stay alert because false teachers, they won't always look dangerous. Sometimes they'll use his name, sometimes they'll quote scripture, sometimes they'll speak confidently. And today they don't just stand behind pulpits. All right, they show up in your feed, they show up in your podcast queue, they show up in your algorithm. If you don't deeply know the real Jesus, you're gonna settle for a version of him that's shaped by culture, by politics, and by disobedience. All right, and deception, it rarely screams, okay? It's not loud. Oftentimes it's a whisper. It's something that tries to slowly integrate within your life and it tries to fit in. And the only way to recognize a counterfeit is to know the authentic one. All right, a man who spends daily time in scripture develops discernment. And when something's off, you can start to sense that. Not because you're suspicious of everything, but because you're anchored in truth. All right, your feed, your feed, all right, what you consume is discipling you every single day. So make sure you have Christ discipling you more. All right, take out your journals. We're gonna do a reflection question here. Take 10 or 15 minutes, invite the Holy Spirit into this process and see what comes up as you're journaling on this question. Who is shaping my understanding of Jesus right now? Is it Christ Himself or the voices that are competing for my attention? All right, and here's your daily challenge. Before opening your phone each day this week, open your Bible. Spend 15 focused minutes in the Word and ask God to sharpen your discernment. Okay, let's pray. Lord, guard my heart and my mind from deception and teach me to know you deeply, Lord, not just through others' opinions, but through your word and your spirit. Lord, give me discernment in a noisy world and anchor me firmly in truth. It's in Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Hey, thank you so much for tuning in today.
