When the World Shakes | Matthew 24:7–8 | Anchored in Unstable Times

In Matthew 24:7–8, Jesus Christ describes a world filled with conflict, disasters, and instability—yet He calls these moments birth pains, not the end. For men who are wired to control, build, and secure life, this message challenges a deeper truth: real strength isn’t controlling outcomes, it’s remaining anchored when everything moves. When the world shakes, faithful men become steady leaders rooted in trust rather than fear.

Reflection:
Where am I gripping for control instead of trusting God?

Challenge:
When stress rises today, pause and release one specific worry to God in prayer.

And when life shakes, men often grip tighter or they shut down. Hey, I'm Sean, and every day I write a devotional for my men's ministry. And we go line by line through scripture. Right now, we're in the book of Matthew. We're in chapter 24. We're in verses 7 and 8. But before we dive into it, make sure you hit the subscribe button. We drop these Monday through Friday. You don't want to miss a devotional. So hit that subscribe button. Verses 7 and 8 here. Nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. All right, so men, right, we're wired to build, we're wired to secure, and we're wired to control. And we try to stabilize life, we try to protect our people, and we try to manage outcomes. But Jesus describes a world that's always going to feel unstable. There's going to be conflict, there's going to be shortages, there's going to be disasters, and things are just going to shake. And his message is not panic, it's to have perspective. So he calls these birth pains. These are the beginning of the birth pains, all right, not the end. But waves reminding us that control, it was never ours. It's an illusion. And when life shakes, men often grip tighter or they shut down. And then anxiety rises, anger surfaces, fear hides underneath all of that. And yet Jesus says, do not be alarmed. All right, but why does he say that? It's because while the world is moving, God doesn't. All right, real strength isn't controlling everything. It's remaining anchored when everything around you moves. You don't need to control to lead well. You need trust. A man who is grounded, he releases the outcome to God and he stands steady in his faith, and it becomes a source of calm for others during chaos. Alright, so pull out your journals, take the next five or ten minutes and journal on this. Invite the Holy Spirit into this process and see what comes up within you. Here's your question is where are you gripping for control instead of trusting God? Then here's your daily challenge is when stress rises today, pause and release one specific worry to God through prayer. Let's pray. Lord, when life feels unstable, remind me that you are steady. Lord, teach me to release control, trust you fully, and to lead with faith and not fear. Anchor my heart in you, Lord. It's in the name of Jesus we pray. Amen. Hey, thank you for tuning in today. If you were encouraged by this devotional, then I encourage you to send it off to a friend. Make sure you like, make sure you subscribe, leave a comment.
