Stay Awake | Matthew 24:15–16 | Living Ready in Uncertain Times

In Gospel of Matthew 24:15–16, Jesus Christ references the prophecy of the “abomination that causes desolation” spoken of by Daniel. Some see this fulfilled in history, others believe it points to what’s still to come—but Jesus’ focus wasn’t speculation. It was vigilance.

This isn’t about building timelines or predicting events. It’s about how you live right now.

Every generation faces chaos, corruption, and cultural drift. The call remains the same:
Stay awake. Stay anchored. Stay ready.

You can’t control prophecy.
 You can control your obedience.

You can’t control global instability.
 You can control your integrity.

You can’t control when Christ returns.
You can control whether your life is spiritually asleep.

Jesus didn’t give this teaching so men would debate—He gave it so men would be prepared.

Lead your family well. Stay grounded in truth. Stand firm in Christ—whether He returns tonight or in a thousand years.

Jesus wasn't fueling any sort of speculation. He was forming vigilance. Hey, welcome back to the Restoring Warriors Daily Devotional. Hey, listen, Restoring Warriors is actually a men's ministry, and we have a mission to equip men to become disciples of Jesus Christ, men who lead boldly, men who share the gospel. And every week we gather in person in Denver, Colorado, but it's an exciting time because we're launching groups across the nation and we're also building an online community for discipleship. So to join a group in your area or to start one in your own home, connect with us online. Go to restoringwarriors.com and click join a group and we will meet you there. But make sure to join that online community as well. Okay, we're jumping back into scripture. We're back in the book of Matthew. We're in chapter 24, we're in verse 15 and 16. Before we go through it, make sure you hit that subscribe button, make sure you follow us so you don't miss a day. All right, Matthew 24, verses 15 and 16. So when you see standing in the holy place, the abomination that causes desolation, spoken of through the prophet of Daniel, let the reader understand. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. All right. So when Jesus spoke these words in the Gospel of Matthew, all right, he referenced the prophecy that showed up in the book of Daniel. And some believed it was fulfilled actually in A.D. 70, when Rome desecrated and destroyed the temple. But others believe that it points to a final rebellion that's still to come in the future. And faithful believers stand on both sides of that aisle and both sides of that discussion. But here's what's undeniable: Jesus wasn't fueling any sort of speculation. He was forming vigilance. Not when, not who, not are we in it, but how do we live? All right, every single generation has faced chaos, it's faced corruption, it's faced cultural drift. The call has never changed. Stay awake, stay anchored, stay ready, be focused. All right, you can't control prophecy timelines, but you can't control your obedience. You can't control global instability, but you can control your integrity. You can't control when Christ returns, but you can control whether your house is spiritually asleep. Jesus didn't give us this teaching so that men could build charts and try and figure it all out and carry the two and figure out the algorithm. No, he gave it to us so men would build conviction. Stay watchful, stay clean, lead your family well, stand firm in Christ, whether he comes tonight or whether he comes in a thousand years. And that's the point. All right, so take this moment, take out your journal, take five or ten minutes and really see what comes up for you here. Invite the Holy Spirit into this journaling with you and see what kind of conviction comes up. Here's your question: if Christ returned this week, what area of your life would you wish that you had tightened up? And here's our challenge is this week, remove one distraction that doles your spiritual alertness and replace it with intentional time in Scripture and in prayer. Let's pray. Lord, anchor my heart in your truth. Guard me from distraction, guard me from fear. Make me a man who stays awake, steady, obedient, and ready. Lord, help me lead my home with conviction and endurance, whether in calm or in chaos. Keep my eyes fixed on you. It's in the name of Jesus we pray. Amen. Hey, thank you so much for tuning in today. If you were encouraged by this devotional, I encourage you to send it to a friend. Like, subscribe, leave a comment. It really helps us in the algorithms and helps us spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. We'll be back here tomorrow with another devotional. Can't wait to see you there.
