The Unshakable Christ | Matthew 24:24–25 | Guarding Against Deception
In Gospel of Matthew 24:24–25, Jesus Christ gives a clear warning: deception is coming—and it won’t always look dangerous. It will look spiritual, convincing, even powerful.
False messiahs and false prophets won’t always deny Jesus—they’ll redefine Him. Throughout history, movements like Mormonism and Jehovah's Witnesses have referenced Jesus while reshaping who He is. That’s the strategy: don’t remove Christ—replace Him with a version that’s easier to follow.
Jesus tells us this ahead of time so we don’t drift when culture, charisma, or “new revelation” pulls at us. Deception rarely shouts—it subtly shifts truth.
A grounded man doesn’t chase hype—he anchors in truth.
The real Jesus doesn’t need an upgrade. He is the way, the truth, and the life.
Stand firm. Stay rooted. Fix your eyes on Christ alone.
Alright, so notice this. The danger isn't always an obvious evil. Sometimes it can look spiritual, it can be convincing, it can look powerful. Matthew 24, verses 24 and 25. For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you this ahead of time. All right, so Jesus, he warns his disciples about deception in the last days, not just chaos. He already warned us about chaos. Now he's talking about deception, not just persecution, deception. He says that false messiahs will rise, they'll perform signs, and they will attempt to mislead. He says, even the elect. All right, so notice this the danger isn't always an obvious evil. Sometimes it can look spiritual, it can be convincing, it can look powerful. Throughout history, movements have acknowledged Jesus as a prophet while quietly replacing him as the Messiah. So look at groups like Mormonism and Jehovah's Witness, where they reference Jesus, but they redefine who he is. All right, and that's the tactic. Don't remove him, just redefine him. All right, but Jesus tells us ahead of time so we don't drift when charisma, when culture, or that new revelation pulls us in. The enemy doesn't always attack with fear, he distracts with distortion. Okay, scripture calls him a thief in John 10 10, and theft often happens quietly. So, men, staying firm isn't passive. It requires discipline, it requires daily time in the in the word, testing what you hear. All right, when you hear something on the from the pulpit, test it in scripture. It's refusing to chase spiritual hype, it's anchoring your identity in Christ alone. All right, the real Jesus doesn't need an upgrade, He is the way, the truth, and the life. So then stand firm, stay focused and endure. All right, pull out your journals, take the next 10 minutes or so and journal on this question, see what comes up, invite the Holy Spirit into this process and see if there's any conviction that happens here. Where in your life are you tempted to elevate culture, to elevate personalities or new ideas alongside Jesus Christ? And here's your daily challenge today. Spend 20 focused minutes in Scripture today. No phone, no distractions. Just anchor yourself in truth in the word. All right, let's pray, Lord, guard my heart from deception, give me discernment, keep my eyes fixed on Jesus alone. Strengthen me to stand firm, rooted in truth, and unmoved by distortion. To the name of Jesus we pray. Amen. Amen. Thank you so much for tuning in today. If you were encouraged by this devotional, I encourage you to send it off to a friend.
