In Matthew 24:47–51, Jesus gives a serious warning about what happens when a man starts living like accountability is far away.

The servant was entrusted with responsibility while the master was gone. If he stayed faithful, he was rewarded. But when he convinced himself the master wasn’t coming back anytime soon, everything changed.

He drifted.
 He compromised.
He abused what had been entrusted to him.

And that’s how it happens for men today too.

Most men don’t fall all at once. It starts with a quiet lie:
 “I’ve got time.”

Time to get serious about faith.
 Time to lead better.
 Time to deal with sin.
Time to become the man God called them to be.

But when urgency disappears, compromise creeps in.

Jesus’ message is clear: the Master is coming back.
And the real question is not if He will return—but what kind of servant He will find when He does.

Every man has been entrusted with something—his family, habits, leadership, influence, gifts, and opportunities. These are not random. They are responsibilities from God.

A faithful man doesn’t drift into culture.
 He lives ready.

Big Question:
Where in your life are you living like accountability is far away?

Challenge:
Choose one area of stewardship today—your family, habits, leadership, or spiritual discipline—and step into it with renewed faithfulness. Lead, serve, and live like Christ could return at any moment.

Prayer:
Lord, forgive me for the ways I’ve drifted or lived casually with what You’ve entrusted to me. Help me live with urgency, integrity, and faithfulness. Shape me into a man who leads well, serves well, and is ready when You return. Amen.

All right, Jesus' warning is really clear here. Hey, the master will return. Hey, welcome back to the Restoring Warriors Daily Devotional. Hey, at Restoring Warriors, we have a very simple mission. It's to reclaim masculinity and also to equip men to become disciples of Jesus Christ. Holdly spread the gospel. And every week we gather together in Denver, Colorado, but we're currently launching men's groups across the country and also building a powerful online community. So, hey, if you want to start a group, if you've ever felt called to lead a group, this is your opportunity. You can start one in your home, or you can connect with us online, head over to restoringwarriors.com and click on find a group, and we'll direct you from there. Hey, let's jump back into it. All right, so today we're back in the book of Matthew. We're in Matthew chapter 24, verses 47 through 51, where Jesus says, This truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, My master is staying away a long time. Then he begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with the drunkards. The master of the servant will come on a day when he does not expect him, and at an hour he's not aware of, he will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. All right, so Jesus here, he's painting a picture, right? A servant is placed in charge of a master's household while the master is away. And if he remains faithful, serving others and stewarding what he's been entrusted with, he is rewarded with even greater responsibility. But if the but if the servant convinces himself that the master's gone for a while, he's not going to be back for a long time, his behavior begins to change. He starts to abuse his authority, he he mistreats others, he indulges with the world around him. It began with a quiet thought, the master isn't coming back anytime soon. And that same mindset, it shows up everywhere today in everything we do. So many guys think they have plenty of time to get serious about their faith. They've got plenty of time to lead their families well, they've got plenty of time to turn away from destructive habits. But when accountability feels distant, then compromise starts to creep into your day-to-day life and our discipline starts to fade away. Our leadership is all begone, it disappears. And a man begins living for comfort, just the comfortable everyday things instead of stepping out with a purpose. All right, Jesus' warning is really clear here. Hey, the master will return, and it's gonna happen when people least expect it. So the real question is not whether or not Jesus will come back, it's the kind of servant he's gonna find when he does come back. All right, every man has been entrusted with something influence, time, relationships, gifts, opportunities, wealth, right? These are not random possessions, they're responsibility that are placed in our hands by God. And faithfulness means stewarding those things with integrity while we wait. A faithful man doesn't drift into culture. He stands apart from culture, he leads, he serves, he disciplines his life and his heart because he knows who it belongs to. The servant who forgets the master begins living for themselves. But the servant who remembers the master lives ready. Where in your life might you be living as if accountability is far away? All right, what areas of responsibility has God entrusted you to that need to be renewed faithfulness today? All right, and here's your daily challenge. Identify one area of stewardship in your life, all right, your family, your habits, your leadership, or your spiritual discipline, and intentionally step into it today with faithfulness. Lead, serve, and act as if Christ could return at any moment. Alright, let's pray, Lord, thank you for your responsibilities that you've given me and the opportunities you've entrusted to me. Forgive me for the times I've drifted, I've compromised, or lived as if your return was far away. Lord, help me live with urgency, faithfulness, and integrity, and shape me into a man that leads well, serves others, and honors you in every area of my life. It's in the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
