In Matthew 25:4–5, Jesus shows us something powerful about faith:

The wise didn’t just carry lamps—they carried extra oil.

That’s what set them apart.

They understood that the wait might be longer than expected, so they prepared for endurance—not just the moment.

And that’s where many people miss it.

A lot of people want the light of faith without the discipline that keeps it burning. They want the appearance of being ready without the private pursuit of God that actually sustains them when life gets long, hard, and uncertain.

Because real faith isn’t proven in emotional moments.
 It’s proven in the waiting.

Prayer.
 Scripture.
 Worship.
 Repentance.
 Obedience.

These aren’t just routines—they’re the oil reserves that keep your flame alive through delayed answers, difficult seasons, and spiritual fatigue.

Even the wise grew tired.
The difference is that when the moment came…
 their lamps still had oil.

As men pursuing Christ, we don’t live off hype.
 We build reserves.

Big Question:
What are you doing right now to build oil reserves in your relationship with God?

Challenge:
Create intentional space today to fill your jar. Spend time in prayer, read Scripture, and invite God into your day. Don’t settle for the appearance of faith—pursue the substance.

Prayer:
Lord, teach me to pursue You daily and faithfully. Help me build a steady, enduring relationship with You that lasts through every waiting season. Fill me with Your Spirit and keep my lamp burning bright. Amen.

Faith isn't proven in moments of excitement or inspiration. It's proven through endurance. Hey, welcome back to the Restoring Warriors Daily Devotional. Hey, Restoring Warriors is a men's ministry, and we're dedicated to equipping men to become disciples of Jesus Christ. Men who lead boldly, men who share the gospel. All right, and every week we gather together in Denver, Colorado, but we're currently launching groups across the nation and we're also building an online community. All right, so if you've ever felt called to lead a small group, lead a men's group, now's your opportunity. Uh to join a group, to start one in your home, to connect with us online, just go to restoringwarriors.com and click find a group, and we'll direct you from there. All right, we're diving back in. We're we're back in the book of Matthew. We're in chapter 25. We're in verses four through five. We're continuing in the parable of the ten bridesmaids here. All right, so 25 verses four and five, Jesus says this the wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep. All right, so so life, life is full of seasons of waiting. All right, we're waiting for a breakthrough in our finances. All right, maybe we're waiting for healing, waiting for the right relationship, waiting for direction. And as believers, we're all ultimately waiting for the return of Jesus Christ. All right, and in Jesus' parable of the ten virgins, the difference between the wise and the foolish wasn't that they had some lamps and others didn't. They they all had lamps, and on the surface, they all appeared ready. The difference was oil. All right, the wise brought extra oil because they were prepared for the possibility that the wait might be longer than expected. All right, faith isn't proven in moments of excitement or inspiration, it's proven through endurance. And the daily pursuit of God builds the oil, right, that sustains our faith through long seasons of waiting. So prayer, scripture, worship, repentance, and obedience. All right, they're not just spiritual habits, they are the reserves that keep the flame alive. So Jesus even tells us that the bridegroom was delayed, right, and everybody grew tired. Even the wise grew drowsy. All right, the dis the difference wasn't that they never struggled, it was that when the moment came, their lamp still had oil. And many people want the light of faith without discipline, the discipline of filling the jar. They want the appearance of readiness without having a daily pursuit of God. All right, and as men pursuing Christ, we have to live differently. All right, we have to build our reserves, we have to pursue Him daily. We have to prepare our hearts and our homes and our lives so that no matter when the bridegroom comes, today, tomorrow, or years from now, our lamps are still burning. All right, now take out your journal. Let's go through a reflection question, invite the Holy Spirit into this process with you and really see what gets stirred up in you. All right. What are you currently doing in your life to build oil reserves, right, in your relationship with God? And then your daily challenge is create intentional space today to fill your jar, right? Spend some time in prayer, read scripture, invite the Lord into your day. Don't just maintain the appearance of faith. Pursue the substance that keeps your lamp burning. All right, let's pray. Lord, help me pursue you daily and faithfully. Teach me to build my life on a steady relationship with you, not just moments of inspiration. Lord, fill my heart with your spirit and help me remain ready for whatever season I'm in. May my faith endure through every waiting season and may my life be prepared for your return. So, in the name of Jesus we pray. Amen. Hey, thank you for tuning in today. If you were encouraged by this devotional, then I encourage you to send it off to a friend.
