Protecting Position or Protecting Truth | Matthew 26:3–5
In this message, we unpack a dangerous shift that every man faces: the moment when protecting comfort, reputation, or influence starts to outweigh standing on truth.
In Matthew 26:3–5, the chief priests weren’t ignorant—they were leaders. They knew Scripture. They held authority. But instead of asking “What honors God?” they asked “What keeps things smooth?” And in doing so, they chose position over truth.
That same tension shows up today—especially in the workplace, leadership, and relationships. When pressure rises, it’s easy to stay quiet, avoid conflict, and protect what we’ve built. But real leadership is revealed when truth costs something.
This isn’t about being loud—it’s about being aligned.
In this video, we cover:
– The subtle shift from conviction to comfort
– Why silence can cost more than speaking truth
– How to lead with integrity in real-world pressure
– What it looks like to honor God when it’s inconvenient
Key Scripture:
Matthew 26:3–5
Reflection Question:
Where in your life are you protecting comfort or approval instead of standing on truth?
Challenge:
This week, identify one moment where you would normally stay quiet to avoid tension—and choose courage over comfort. Speak truth, set a boundary, or refuse to compromise.
Prayer:
Father, give me the courage to lead with integrity when pressure rises. Help me value truth over comfort and obedience over approval. Strengthen me to stand firm in every area of my life. Amen.

You know what's right, you know what God's Word says, but the pressure's real. Hey, welcome back to the Restoring Warriors Daily Devotional, where every day we challenge men to boldly step into their callings and pursue the gospel of Jesus Christ. Hey, we're currently expanding our online community. We're building out a powerful online community of kingdom-minded male disciples. All right, if you want in on that, go to restoring warriors.com, click on join a group, and we will prompt you from there. Hey, we're diving back in. We're in the book of Matthew, chapter 26, and this is verses 3 through 5 today. Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, and they schemed to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him. But not during the festival, they said, or there may be a riot among the people. All right, so these chief priests, they weren't clueless men. They were leaders, they were influential, they were respected in their communities, and they knew the scriptures. They held positions of authority and they carried responsibility for guiding others. All right, but but in this moment, man, they made a dangerous shift. They stopped protecting truth and they started protecting their positions. They didn't ask in this moment, they didn't pause and ask what honors God. They asked, What's going to keep the peace? All right, and that's a trap that we all fall into each and every day, especially at work. You know what's right, you know what God's word says, but the pressure's real. All right, we're we we internalize these things. We say, Don't rock the boat. Man, man, don't speak up. I don't want to be that guy. You know, don't bring faith into the conversation, even when everything that's going on around you is convicting you. So instead of standing firm, standing in truth, you choose to stay quiet to protect your reputation, to protect your income, or maybe to protect any sort of influence that you have. All right. And here's the hard truth is that leadership, it loses its power the moment that your comfort becomes more important than your conviction. All right, and in real leadership, it's not proven when things are easy. It's proven when speaking up, when portraying the truth costs you something. All right, when it's going to be difficult to hear. You don't have to preach sermons in your office. Absolutely not. But you are called to live with integrity, right? To speak when the truth matters, to speak up when it matters, all right, and to lead in a way that honors God in every decision that you make, even when it feels risky, all right, because the question that every man faces at one point or another is this Am I protecting my position or am I protecting truth? All right, so take out a journal, spend a few minutes on this question, invite the Holy Spirit in and see what comes up for you. Where in your life, right, your workspace, um, your friendships, lead your leadership positions that you have inside your own household, where are you tempted to stay silent to protect comfort, to protect the environment, or to protect your approval rating instead of standing on truth, on the word of God? And here's a daily challenge for you. Identify one situation this week where you would normally stay quiet to avoid any sort of tension. Right. And I want you to choose courage over comfort, okay, and act in integrity. Whether that means speaking truth, whether it means setting a hard boundary with somebody, or refusing to compromise in something that you know just doesn't feel right. You feel it in your gut. All right, and finally, a prayer for today. Father, give me the courage to lead with integrity when the pressures arise around me. Lord, help help me value truth more than comfort and obedience to you more than any sort of man-made approval that I can receive. Lord, strengthen me to stand firm in my workplace, in my home, in my leadership, even when it costs me something, Lord, and shape me into a man who honors you above everything else. Lord, it's in the name of Jesus we pray. Amen. Hey, thank you so much for tuning in today. If you were encouraged by this devotional, then I encourage you to send it off to a friend.
