Leadership Is Sacrifice | Matthew 26:26 | Broken to Feed Others

In Gospel of Matthew 26:26, Jesus Christ takes bread, gives thanks, breaks it, and gives it to His disciples.

That sequence matters.

He blessed it.
He broke it.
Then He gave it away.

That is Kingdom leadership.

The world defines leadership through status, power, and recognition. Jesus defines it through sacrifice. Real leadership costs something. It requires laying down comfort, convenience, time, energy, and sometimes even personal preference so others can be strengthened.

Every man who leads will eventually face moments where leadership hurts.
Moments where serving costs sleep.
Where integrity costs opportunity.
Where showing up for your family costs personal comfort.

And Jesus shows us something powerful: the bread had to be broken before it could feed others.

Sometimes the pressure you’re feeling isn’t proof you’re failing. It may be proof God is shaping you into a man who can carry responsibility with humility, endurance, and love.

Leadership is not measured by how much power you hold.
It’s measured by how much of yourself you’re willing to give.

Right, and every man who leads is eventually going to face a moment where their leadership is going to cost them something. Hey, welcome back to the Restoring Warriors Daily Devotional, where every day we've challenged men to boldly pursue the gospel of Jesus Christ. Hey, today we're diving back into the book of Matthew. We're in chapter 26. We're in verse 26 as well. While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take and eat. This is my body. All right, so Jesus didn't just teach leadership, he also demonstrated it really well. And in this moment, he takes the bread, he gives thanks, he breaks it, and then he gives it away. And the sequence there, it really matters. There's significance to the sequence. All right, in leadership in the kingdom of heaven, in the kingdom of God, it's not about position, it's not about recognition or having uh authority, it's about sacrifice, it's about willingly laying down your comfort, your time, your energy, and sometimes even your security so that others can be strengthened. Right. And every man who leads is eventually going to face a moment where their leadership is gonna cost them something. It might be sleep, it might be money, it might be your reputation. You might have to take the fall for somebody to elevate them and position yourself down. It might be personal preference, it might mean stepping into responsibility when it would be a lot easier just to avoid it and let things happen and let things take care of themselves. But Jesus shows us that true leadership, it's not measured by how much power we hold, it's by how much of ourselves we're willing to lay down for others, right? And this bread, it had to be broken before it could feed others. And in the same way, God often uses seasons of pressure to shape leaders who can serve with humility, endurance, and love. And if you feel stretched, if you feel tired or sacrificial right now, that might not be a sign that you're off track. It may be evidence that you're actually leading the way that Christ wants you to lead and the way that Christ led. All right, now take out your journal. Let's let's take a couple minutes on this question. Let's reflect on what the Lord is speaking to you here. All right, invite the Holy Spirit into this process. Where is leadership currently costing you something? All right, and how is God using that sacrifice to strengthen others? All right, here's a daily challenge for you. Identify one area today where you can lead through sacrifice, all right, making sure that you are choosing courage and service over your own personal comfort. Oh, patience, all right, utilizing your patience instead of frustration. All right, and finally, let's pray. Heavenly Father, Jesus, thank you for showing me what real leadership looks like. Jesus, teach me to lead with humility, with courage, and to lead with sacrifice. Give me the strength to serve others, even when it costs me, Lord, and shape my heart to truly reflect yours. It's in Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Hey, thank you so much for tuning in today. If you were encouraged by this devotional, I encourage you to send it off to a friend.
