Humility Keeps a Man Standing | Restoring Warriors Daily Devotional | Matthew 26:35

In this episode, we unpack Peter’s bold declaration in Matthew 26:35: “Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.” Peter was sincere. Passionate. Confident. But Jesus knew something Peter didn’t yet understand—confidence without humility will eventually collapse under pressure.
This teaching dives into the subtle danger of self-reliance and why humility is what keeps a man standing when life gets heavy. We explore how pride can make men underestimate temptation, pressure, exhaustion, and fear, while humility keeps us dependent on God daily.
You’ll hear:
• Why confidence alone is not enough
• The difference between self-reliance and dependence on God
• How pride blinds men to their vulnerabilities
• Why accountability and prayer strengthen endurance
• Practical ways to stay humble, watchful, and grounded
Plus, we close with reflection, challenge, and prayer to help you build a life rooted in humility instead of self-confidence.
If you’ve ever felt strong one moment and shaken the next, this episode will remind you that lasting strength comes from dependence on God—not belief in yourself.
Listen, share, and stay grounded in the strength that comes from humility.
Through the storm that he was about to walk through, that all of the disciples were about to walk through. Hey, welcome back to the Restoring Warriors Daily Devotional where every day we challenge men to boldly chase after their calling and pursue the gospel of Jesus Christ. Hey, today uh we're gonna dive back into the book of Matthew, but before we do, I want to invite you to join us in our online community. It's called Restored Kingdom Brotherhood. It's a powerful community of men who are discipling one another and are really chasing after Jesus Christ. We'd love to have you there. Go to restoringwarriors.com, click on join a group, and we will direct you from there. All right, we're diving back in. Matthew 26. We're in verse number 35 here today. But Peter declared, even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you. And all the other disciples said the same. I think that's one of those lines that we miss sometimes. All the other disciples said the same. We we focus on Peter and leave out the other disciples. All right. Now, Peter here, he he he was a man of much confidence. And that shows throughout scripture, but confidence here, it wasn't the problem. He had a lack of humility in this moment. All right. And it's it's hard to see when you're in the moment, but but he definitely had it. He believed that his devotion alone would carry him through the storm that he was about to walk through, that all of the disciples were about to walk through. All right, but confidence without having humility, it can make a man really underestimate the pressure that he hasn't faced yet. All right. Humility, it doesn't mean that you have doubt for yourself. It doesn't mean you're questioning yourself. It means that you're recognizing your need for God every single day in every single area of your life. It's the man who stays prayerful, the man who stays watchful and accountable, who remains steady when life around them and circumstances around them start to get heavy. All right, so self-confidence, your own self-confidence, it's gonna say things like, hey, I've got this, I can handle this, I'm equipped for this. But humility says, God, help me stay faithful. I don't have what it takes, Lord. Help me stay faithful when I face things around me that I can't control, that I don't even see coming. All right, the strongest man in the room, it's not the one that's the loudest about their strength, it's not the one that's white knuckling and trying to get through everything on their own, not leaning on anybody for help, not bringing things to the Lord. The most strong man is the one who's dependent on the one who gets it done. And that's Jesus Christ. All right, pull out your journals. Let's take the next five or ten minutes here. Spend this time in reflection. Pray to the Holy Spirit, ask the Holy Spirit to enter you and convict you in this question and see if he can expose something in you, something that might need a little tweaking, maybe something that you need to prune in order to produce more fruit because you're already on the right track. All right, here's a reflection question. Where in your life are you relying on your confidence alone instead of a daily dependence on God? All right, and here's a daily challenge. Before you step into your day, take one minute to ask God for strength in the exact area where you feel like you're the most confident right now. All right, let's pray. Heavenly Father, Lord, keep my heart humble even when I feel strong. Lord, help me rely on your strength and not on my own confidence. Lord, when I am weak, you give me strength. Lord, give me discipline, give me awareness and faithfulness so I can stand firm when the trials of the day come my way. It's in the name of Jesus we pray. Amen. Hey, thank you so much for tuning in today. If you were encouraged by this devotional, I encourage you, send it to a friend, send it to a brother, send it to somebody in need, send it to somebody who's got a whole lot of confidence right now and might need to lean on some humility. Um, we love doing these. Um I absolutely love doing this ministry with you each and every day. Come back tomorrow. We're gonna drop another daily devotional. Can't wait to see you on the next one.
