In this episode, we unpack Jesus’ powerful response to Peter in the Garden of Gethsemane: “Put your sword back in its place, for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.”
When pressure hit, Peter reacted. Faced with fear, uncertainty, and conflict, he reached for a weapon. While his intentions may have seemed honorable, Jesus revealed a deeper truth: spiritual battles cannot be won with worldly weapons.
This teaching challenges men to examine the weapons they instinctively reach for when life feels out of control. Whether it's anger, pride, defensiveness, manipulation, addiction, control, or emotional withdrawal, the weapon you live by will eventually shape the man you become.
You’ll hear:
• Why Peter’s reaction is still common among men today
• How worldly weapons quietly destroy relationships and character
• The danger of trying to force outcomes instead of trusting God
• What true biblical strength actually looks like
• How surrender, self-control, and obedience become a man’s greatest weapons
Jesus wasn't establishing His Kingdom through force, intimidation, or retaliation. He was demonstrating a different kind of power—strength under control, complete trust in the Father, and unwavering obedience even in the face of suffering.
This episode will help you identify unhealthy patterns of reaction and learn how to fight life’s battles the way Christ modeled: with wisdom, prayer, humility, and spiritual authority.
Plus, we close with a practical reflection and prayer to help you put down the weapons of the flesh and walk in the strength of the Spirit.
If you're tired of being ruled by anger, fear, pride, or emotional reactions and want to become a man marked by self-control and godly leadership, this episode is for you.
Listen, share, and discover why sometimes the strongest thing a man can do is put the sword down.
All right, Jesus wasn't building his kingdom through violence, through revolt, through revenge, through force, or through any sort of emotional reaction. Welcome back to the Restoring Warriors Daily Devotional, where every day we challenge men to pursue their calling that Christ has placed on their lives. Okay, we're gonna dive back into the book of Matthew, but before we do, I want you to go to our website, restoringwarriors.com, click on join a group, and from there it'll give you instructions on how to join our online school community. Uh wonderful brotherhood of guys getting together who are pushing each other to be more Christ-like. Back to the book of Matthew, chapter 26, and we're in verse 52 today. Put your sword back in its place, Jesus said to him. All right, so in the garden, Peter reacts very quickly. He reacts fast. And sh as these soldiers show up to arrest Jesus, Peter draws a sword and he cuts off a man's ear, not overreacting or anything, is he? All right, and on the surface, all right, it looks like Peter's engaging in an act of it was courageous, protective even, but but Jesus immediately stops it. Why? Because Peter was trying to fight a spiritual battle with worldly weapons. All right, Jesus wasn't building his kingdom through violence, through revolt, through revenge, through force, or through any sort of emotional reaction. And honestly, many men react this way and live like this today. All right, maybe not with literal swords, but with anger, intimidation, pride, a lot of manipulation sometimes, addiction, sarcasm, control, constant defensiveness. We swing at people when we feel threatened and we try to force outcomes instead of trusting God. All right, Jesus, he reminds Peter, and he reminds us that the weapon you live by will eventually shape your life. A man ruled by anger is eventually going to destroy relationships with anger. A man who's ruled by lust eventually destroys his integrity. A man ruled by pride eventually stands alone. The kingdom of God advances differently than we do in the world. It's through surrender, right? Wisdom, self-control, prayer, through obedience, right? Strength that's under control. Sometimes the strongest thing that a man can do is to put the sword down. Alright, so pull out your journals now. I want you to take a couple minutes here and answer this reflection question. All right, invite the Holy Spirit into this process. See what convicts you. What sword do you tend to reach for when you feel threatened, when you feel hurt, when you feel out of control? And here's your challenge before you react emotionally today, pause and pray first. All right, ask God to help you respond with wisdom instead of impulse. Finally, let's pray. Jesus, show me where I've been fighting battles the wrong way. Lord, teach me to surrender my pride, anger, and reactions to you. Lord, help me become a man marked by wisdom, self-control, and obedience instead of emotional impulse. It's in Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Hey, thank you for tuning in today. If you were encouraged by this devotional, I encourage you to send it off to a friend. Make sure you like, make sure you've subscribed, leave a comment.
