In this episode, we explore one of the most powerful demonstrations of strength in all of Scripture. As Jesus stands in the Garden of Gethsemane facing betrayal, arrest, and the cross, He reveals a truth that completely redefines biblical masculinity:
“Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?”
Jesus wasn't powerless. He wasn't trapped. Heaven's armies stood ready at His command. Yet instead of unleashing force, He chose surrender, restraint, and obedience to the Father's will.
This teaching challenges the world's definition of strength and confronts the ways men often respond when pressure, conflict, and injustice arise.
You’ll hear:
• Why Jesus’ restraint was greater than any display of force
• The difference between weakness and strength under control
• How pride, anger, and revenge can disguise themselves as strength
• Why obedience often requires more courage than retaliation
• What biblical masculinity looks like in moments of pressure and conflict
The world celebrates men who dominate, intimidate, and fight back. Jesus models something far greater—a warrior who possesses unlimited power yet remains fully submitted to God.
This episode will help you recognize where you may be reacting in the flesh and show you how Christlike strength is forged through surrender, discipline, wisdom, and trust in the Father.
Plus, we close with a practical reflection and prayer to help you become the kind of man who leads with conviction, responds with self-control, and walks in true spiritual authority.
If you've ever struggled with anger, control, pride, or the need to prove yourself, this episode will challenge you to embrace a higher standard of strength—the strength Jesus demonstrated in the garden.
Listen, share, and discover why the strongest warrior in history was the One who chose not to fight back.
Or heaven's armies were available to him at a moment's notice. But instead of unleashing power, he chose surrender. Welcome back to the Restoring Warriors Daily Devotional, where every day we challenge men to be better disciples of Jesus Christ. Hey, we're gonna jump back into the book of Matthew, but before we do, we are building out a powerful online community on the school platform. Head over to restoring warriors.com, click on join a group, and we'll direct you from there. All right, Matthew 26, and we're in verse 53 today. Verse 53, do you think I cannot call my father? And he will at once put at my disposal more than 12 legions of angels. All right, so when Jesus was arrested in the garden, Peter reaches for a sword. To him, this meant war, all right, and warriors, they fight back, but Jesus immediately stops Peter and then he says something very incredible. He could really easily call on the Father and instantly have 12 legions of angels at his side. All right, Jesus wasn't weak, he certainly wasn't helpless. All right, heaven's armies were available to him at a moment's notice. But instead of unleashing power, he chose surrender and he chose obedience. He was on a mission. And that completely redefines what a warrior looks like. The world is gonna teach men that that strength means domination. It means you have to be intimidating. It means aggression, it means always getting even if something happens to you. But Jesus, he shows us a much different kind of warrior, one who is fully capable of fighting, yet fully submitted to the will of God. All right? Anybody can react in anger, that's easy. Anybody can swing a sword when emotions fire high. But but it takes real strength to stay obedient when your flesh just wants to get revenge, when it wants to escape, when it wants to control the situation. Biblical masculinity, it's not passive weakness, that's not what it is. It's also not reckless aggression, it's power that is under submission to God. Jesus won the greatest battle in history, but he didn't do it by taking life, but by laying down his own. So I want you to take out a journal, take the next couple minutes and reflect on this question I'm about to ask you. Use this as prayerful time with the Lord. See what comes up here, see what, see what is convicting you. Where in your life are you tempted to react in the flesh instead of responding with Christ-like strength and surrender? And finally, a daily challenge for today. Before emotionally reacting today, I want you to pause and pray first. Ask God to help lead you with wisdom, with restraint, and with obedience instead of impulse. Let's pray. Lord, teach me to be a man of strength under control. Lord, help me surrender my anger, my pride, and my need to prove myself. Lord, form me into a warrior who reflects the character of Jesus. Bold, disciplined, and fully obedient to you. It's in Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Hey, thank you so much for tuning in today. If you were encouraged by this devotional, I encourage you to send it to a friend.
