In today's devotional, we reflect on Matthew 27:39-40. Just as the enemy challenged Jesus' identity with the phrase "If you are the Son of God," he often whispers similar lies to us today: "If you were really a good father… If you were really forgiven…"

Join us as we explore why we don't need to fight for our identity, but rather fight from it. When you truly know who you are in Him, you no longer need the world's validation.

Scripture: Matthew 27:39-40

Daily Challenge: Whenever you catch yourself seeking approval or trying to prove your worth today, pause and remind yourself of one truth God says about you. Let His voice guide your actions instead of the opinions of others.

And the enemy, guess what, fellas? He's working the exact same way today. He's not crafty. Hey, welcome back to the Restoring Warriors Daily Devotional where every day we challenge men to boldly pursue the calling that God has placed on their lives. And we do that in a number of different ways here at Restoring Warriors. Number one, we've got an in-person discipleship group. We meet every Tuesday night in Arvada, Colorado. If you're in the Denver area, we would love to have you there. Go to RestoringWarriors.com for more details. But we also have this online community for men who are outside of Colorado. And we get together on there, and same thing: brotherhood, discipleship, men sharpening other men, iron sharpening iron. We'd love to have you over there as well. Go to restoringwarriors.com, click on join a group, and we'll direct you over to our powerful online community. All right, let's dive back into this. We are in Matthew 27. This is verses 39 and 40 today. It says, Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself. Come down from the cross. If you are the son of God. Man, all right. So one phrase in this passage should sound familiar. If you are the son of God, all right. That's the same attack that Satan hit Jesus with back in Matthew chapter 4 when Jesus was wandering in the wilderness. All right, the setting changed. All right, he was in a completely different setting. He's he's hanging on the cross now. But the enemy's strategy didn't change. All right, the enemy attacked Jesus' identity, right? Hoping that he would feel the need to prove himself. All right, but Jesus, he didn't take the bait because his identity had already well been established by the Father. This is my son whom I love. And the enemy, guess what, fellas? He's working the exact same way today. He's not crafty. He does the same thing. He keeps whispering to us, all right, if you were really a good father, if you were really forgiven, if God really loved you, all right, his goal is to make us question what God has already declared. And as men, we often spend our lives trying to prove ourselves to others, but in Christ, we don't have to fight for our identity. We fight from a position of authority, we fight from victory firm in our identity. All right, so when you know who you are in Christ, you no longer need the world's approval. All right, so I want to hit you with a daily challenge today. All right, today, whenever you catch yourself seeking approval or trying to prove your worth today, pause and remind yourself one truth that God says about you. All right, let his voice guide your actions instead of the opinions of others. All right, let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you so much for calling me your Son through Jesus Christ. Help me reject the lies that cause me to question my identity and remind me of who I am in you, Lord. Father, give me the confidence to live from your approval instead of striving for the approval of others. Lord, strengthen me to stand firm when my identity is challenged, just as Jesus did. And it's in his mighty name, in Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Hey, thank you for tuning in today.
