What does it mean to be a strong man? The world tells us to defend our reputation, retaliate when attacked, and find the quickest escape from hardship. But Jesus revealed a different kind of strength—one that refused to come down from the cross.

In this devotional, we examine Matthew 27:42-44 and the true cost of faithfulness. When life gets difficult, the urge to run is real. But biblical strength is often found in refusing to move when God has called you to stand.

In this video, we discuss:
Why Jesus stayed on the cross when He had the power to leave.
How to distinguish between "the easy way out" and "the obedient way through."
Building Christlike endurance in the face of trial and suffering.
Reflect:

Where is God calling you to remain faithful right now? Is there a difficult relationship or a season of hardship where He is building your character? Pause today and ask yourself, "Am I choosing comfort, or am I choosing to be obedient?"

Victory meant proving himself. Alright, but Jesus, he revealed a very different kind of strength in those moments. Hey, welcome back to the Restoring Warriors Daily Devotional where every day we challenge men to boldly pursue the calling that God's placed on their lives. Hey, and at Restoring Warriors, we pursue brotherhood and we pursue the calling that God's given us in a couple of different ways. We have an in-person discipleship group that meets every Tuesday in Denver, Colorado. So if you're in the Denver area, drop me a line. We'd love to have you join us. We also have a powerful online community where guys get together to sharpen one another and do life together as well. You can go to restoring warriors.com, click on join a group, and be directed towards both options. Love to see you there. Hey, we're diving back into the book of Matthew today. We're in we're in Matthew 27. We're in verses 42 and 43 today, where it says this. He saved others, they said, but he can't save himself. He's the king of Israel. Let him come down now from the cross and and we will believe him. He trusts in God. Let God rescue him if he wants him. For he said, I am the Son of God. Alright, so the crowd, the crowd, all those folks that were gathered around the cross, they thought strength looked like coming down from the cross. They started mocking Jesus. They were saying things like, Hey, if you're really the Son of God, then why don't you just save yourself? And to them, to the crowd, to the people, power meant being able to escape pain or choosing to escape pain. Victory meant proving himself. All right, but Jesus, he revealed a very different kind of strength in those moments. All right, anybody can fight back, anybody can walk away, anyone can choose the easier path. It takes far greater strength to remain faithful when you're misunderstood, falsely accused, and suffering for doing the Father's will. Jesus didn't stay on the cross because he was powerless, he stayed because of his love, his obedience, and his commitment to God's purpose, his commitment to the calling that God placed on his life. The nails didn't hold him there, his mission did. And as men were often tempted to escape hardship, to defend our reputation, or to retaliate when we're attacked. But biblical strength, it isn't always found in throwing a punch. Sometimes it's found in refusing to move when God has called you to stand firm. The strongest man who ever lived didn't come down from the cross. Alright, I want to challenge you today with the daily challenge. And here it is, is before reacting to a difficult situation today, I want you to pause and ask yourself this question Am I choosing the easy way out or am I choosing the obedient way through? Then ask God for strength in that moment to remain steadfast, even when faithfulness costs you something, costs you your comfort. Alright, let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you so much for giving us the example of Jesus who showed that true strength is found in obedience and not escape. Father, give me the courage to stand firm when life becomes difficult to trust your purpose, even when I don't understand it. Help me resist the urge to protect my comfort or my reputation if it means that I'm compromising your will, Lord. Father, build in me the kind of strength that reflects Christ, a strength rooted in faith, humility, and unwavering obedience. It's in Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Hey, thank you for tuning in today.
