Have you ever walked through a season where God felt distant? When the weight of your circumstances makes you wonder if He has abandoned you, remember the cross.

In today’s devotional, we look at the deepest pain Jesus endured—not just the physical suffering, but the separation He experienced so that we never have to. His cry, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” reminds us that our feelings don’t dictate the truth. The cross is the ultimate proof that you are seen, known, and never alone.

In this video:
The Depth of His Sacrifice: Understanding the separation Jesus experienced on our behalf.
Anchoring Your Faith: Why you shouldn’t trust your emotions over God’s promises.
Daily Challenge: A practical step to remind yourself of God’s presence today.
Scripture:

Matthew 27:45-46

Hebrews 13:5

Daily Challenge:

Take five minutes today to thank Jesus specifically for taking your place on the cross. Then, read Hebrews 13:5 aloud and remind yourself that no matter what you’re facing, God has promised never to abandon you.

The nails into his hands and his feet, the mocking. This may have been the deepest pain of all. As he hung there on the cross. Welcome back to the Restoring Warriors Daily Devotional, where every day we challenge men to boldly pursue the calling that God has placed on their lives. And we do that in a number of different ways at Restoring Warriors, but one of them is through our powerful online community on the school platform. Brothers getting together to sharpen, uplift one another, encourage one another, and be grounded in truth. We'd love to have you join that community. Go to restoring warriors.com, click on join a group, and we'll direct you over to the school platform. All right, let's dive back into it. Today we're in chapter 27, Book of Matthew, verses 45 and 46. From noon until three in the afternoon, darkness came over all the land. About three in the afternoon, Jesus cried out in a loud voice, Eli, Eli, lame sabachani, which means, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Forgive the pronunciation. Offer me a little grace there. All right, so anyway, all of all of the suffering that Jesus had endured, all the beatings, the nails into his hands and his feet, the mocking, that this may have been the deepest pain of all. As he hung there on the cross, bearing the full weight of all of humanity's sin, he cried, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? This is for the first time that Jesus experienced separation that our sin deserved. He experienced that. The spotless Son of God took upon himself the judgment that belonged to us so we could have an ongoing, everlasting relationship with the Father that actually belonged to him. All right, but but notice something that's really profound here in his anguish. Jesus still cried, My God. His circumstances, it didn't change who God was. Because Jesus was forsaken in our place. Those who belong to him never will be. All right, feelings, they may tell you that God has abandoned you, but the cross is a bold declaration, otherwise. All right, the greatest evidence of God's presence isn't what you feel today, it's what was accomplished 2,000 years ago. All right, so as we go into this day, I want to hit you with a daily challenge. Daily challenge is this it's take five minutes today to thank Jesus specifically for taking your place on the cross. Then read Hebrews 13, 5 aloud and remind yourself that no matter what you're facing, God has promised to never abandon you. Okay, let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you so much for loving me, loving me enough to send your son to bear the punishment that my sin deserved, Lord. And Jesus, thank you for enduring the separation that I should have experienced so that I could be welcomed into God's family. My feelings are telling me that you're far away, Lord. Help me anchor my faith in the truth of the cross and in your promises. Lord, remind me daily that because of you, I will never be forsaken. It's in the name of Jesus we pray. Amen. Hey, thank you for tuning in today. And if you were encouraged by us devotional, I encourage you to like, to subscribe, to leave a comment, to share this episode with a friend.
