Are you waiting for a major breakthrough while missing the work God is already doing in your life? In today’s reflection on Matthew 27:48-49, we look at the crowd at the foot of the cross who were so focused on a sign that they missed the greatest miracle in history taking place right in front of them.

It’s easy to focus on the outcome we want—a change in circumstances, a new opportunity, or a dramatic sign—but often, God is doing His most important work in the quiet, ordinary moments. Join us as we explore how to trust God’s plan, even when it looks like defeat, and learn to see His hand in both the extraordinary and the everyday.

In this video:
Reflecting on Matthew 27:48-49
The danger of overlooking God’s quiet work
Finding victory in the "defeat" of our circumstances
A prayer for open eyes and a trusting heart
Daily Challenge:

Take ten minutes today to write down three ways you’ve seen God at work over the past month. Thank Him for His faithfulness, even in the ordinary moments, and ask Him to give you eyes to recognize His hand before you ask for something new.

They said this. They said, let's see if Elijah comes and saves them. Hey, welcome back to the Restoring Warriors Daily Devotional where every day we challenge men to boldly pursue the calling that God has placed on their lives. And here at Restoring Warriors, we do that in a couple different ways. My first is through our in-person discipleship group. We meet in Denver, Colorado, every Tuesday evening. If you're in the Denver area, check us out. We'd love to have you join us. We also have a powerful online community where guys get together and sharpen one another. And then we also have a program called the Warrior Path. And this is an eight-week discipleship program designed to lay the foundation for a fruitful relationship with the Lord. All of that can be found on our website, restoring warriors.com, where you can gather more information and join us. Look forward to seeing you there. All right, today we're diving back into the book of Matthew. We're in chapter 27. This is verses 48 and 49 today. Immediately one of them ran out and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on his staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. The rest said, Now leave him here alone. Let's see if Elijah comes to save him. All right, so the crowd is standing at the foot of the cross, and they wanted they wanted to see something spectacular. They had heard that Jesus uh could do miracles, right? They they they heard him cry out, and some of them they thought he was calling for Elijah, but but instead of recognizing the greatest miracle that's ever happened, unfolding right before their eyes, they said this. They said, Let's see if Elijah comes and saves them. All right, they were waiting for God to do something dramatic, all while missing what God was already doing. All right, how often do we do the same things? All right, we we pray for a breakthrough, we pray for a new opportunity, a miraculous sign, or a dramatic change to the circumstances that we're in. Yet in our pursuit for the extraordinary, we overlook all of the quiet work that God is already accomplishing in our lives. All right, he's shaping our character through the hardship that we're going through. He's strengthening, strengthening our faith through the waiting, and he's restoring relationships one conversation at a time and opening doors that we never expected to be open. The cross didn't look like victory. If you're standing there looking at what happened, it doesn't look like victory. It looked a lot like defeat. Yet in that very moment, God was accomplishing the greatest work that had ever occurred and that ever will occur in all of human history. So don't be so focused on the miracle that you want to miss the miracle that God's already performing. Okay, and I want to leave you with a daily challenge today. Take 10 minutes today, quiet time. Ten minutes, turn the music off, turn everything off, no distractions, sit there with the Lord. Take 10 minutes and write down three ways that you've experienced God move in your life within the last month. Then thank him for his faithfulness, even in the ordinary moments. All right, ask him to give you eyes to recognize his hand before you start asking for something new. Let's pray. Father, forgive me for becoming so focused on what I want you to do that I fail to see what you've already done. Lord, open my eyes to recognize your hand in both the extraordinary and the ordinary, and help me trust that even when I can't see the full picture, you're working for your glory and my good. Lord, give me a heart that celebrates your quiet faithfulness as much as your miracles. It's in Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Hey, thank you for tuning in today. If you were encouraged by this devotional, I encourage you to send it off to a friend. Like this video, subscribe, leave a comment. All that helps us in the algorithm.
