Have you ever looked at a situation in your life—a closed door, a lost job, or a broken relationship—and assumed that God was finished? In today’s devotional, we look at Matthew 27:60 and the moment Jesus was laid in the tomb.

From a human perspective, the massive stone across the tomb felt like the end of the story. But what looked like a permanent ending was actually the stage being set for the greatest victory in history.

In this video, we explore how to shift our perspective when we face "immovable stones" in our own lives. God specializes in bringing life out of places that look dead. Instead of assuming the end, let’s choose to trust that He is preparing a resurrection.

In this video:
Reflecting on Matthew 27:60
Why the stone wasn't meant to keep Jesus in
How to trust God when you can't see the way forward
A guided prayer for choosing hope over finality
Reflection Question: What “stone” in your life have you mistaken for the end of God’s work? Where might He be preparing a resurrection instead of writing a conclusion?

And all the disciples, their hopes appeared buried behind that stone. Hey, welcome back to the Restoring Warriors Daily Devotional, where every day we're gonna challenge you as a man to boldly pursue the calling that God has placed on your life. And we do that through daily devotionals, but we also do that as a ministry. All right, Restoring Warriors is a ministry. We're based in Denver, Colorado, but we also have an online presence. And in our online school community, we challenge men, just like we do on these devotionals. We have Bible studies, we have gatherings, we have a discipleship program, eight weeks called the Warrior Path, where we challenge guys through the book of Ephesians to live out some of their masculine traits and also cultivate a foundational relational set of habits to pursue a more intentional relationship with the Lord. So go over to restoringwarriors.com, click on join a group, and we'll direct you over to our online community. But if you're in the Denver area, come check us out. We meet every Tuesday night in Arvada. All right, we're diving back in. This is our last week in Matthew 27. All right, and then we're gonna hit Matthew 28 next week, which is the final book in the chapter, or excuse me, um, the final chapter in the book of Matthew, I should say. So today we're in Matthew 27. This is verse number 60, and it placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb, and he went away. Alright, so if you're looking at this, if you're reading this and you're looking at it from any sort of human perspective whatsoever, this looks like the end of the story. All right, Jesus passed away, now he's in a tomb. All right, this guy, Joseph, Joseph of Arimathea, he lovingly laid Jesus in his own tomb, something that he had purchased himself. It was a tomb that was carved out of solid rock, all right, never before used. It was, I mean, the seal hadn't even been broken. All right, the massive stone rolled across the entrance. It wasn't just for security, it was also a declaration, like a symbol that death had won. And all the disciples, their hopes appeared buried behind that stone. All right, but what looked like something that was permanent, a permanent ending, was actually God preparing the stage for the greatest victory in history. The greatest victory in history. And how often do we find ourselves doing the exact same thing? We see a closed door, we see a marriage that's failing, we see a lost job, we see a broken relationship, we see somebody who's actively in addiction, or maybe we're in it ourselves. We see a dream that seems buried, and we assume that God must be finished with that part of the story. We see the stone, and sometimes we forget the resurrection's right around the corner. The stone wasn't placed there to keep Jesus in. It was placed there so that when the stone was rolled away, no one could deny that it was God who did it. The obstacles that are in your life, they might look immovable today. It might look like you can't get around them, but they're never bigger than the God who specializes in bringing life out of the places, out of the things, out of the circumstances that appear to be dead. All right, so I want to challenge you today to identify one area in your life. All right, spend some time in prayer and identify one area in your life where you've given up, a situation where you've given up. All right, and instead of asking God to simply remove the obstacle that's in front of you, right? The rock in front of the tomb, ask him to reveal how he intends to glorify himself through it and choose hope over finality today. All right, let's pray before we take off today. Father, Father, forgive me for believing that I that what I can't move is beyond your power. Lord, help me trust you when all I can see is the stone that's placed in front of my tomb. I strengthen my faith to believe that you're always working, Lord, even when everything appears silent. Lord, thank you that you're a God who brings life to where the world sees only endings. It's in Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Hey, thank you for tuning in today.
