“So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples.” — Matthew 28:8

The women at the tomb experienced something beyond their understanding—an empty tomb, an angel, and a living Jesus. Matthew tells us they were “afraid yet filled with joy.” What happens next is the key: they ran. They didn’t wait for the fear to disappear, and they didn’t wait to understand everything before they obeyed. They took the next step while they were still afraid.

We often think courage means reaching a place where we’re no longer scared. But biblical courage is trusting God enough to move even when fear comes with you. Fear doesn't automatically mean you’re going the wrong direction; sometimes, it simply means your next step requires faith.

We often think that courage means reaching a place where we can step out. Hey, welcome back to the Restoring Warriors Daily Devotional where every day we challenge men to boldly pursue the calling that God has placed on their lives. Hey, we're in the book of Matthew. We're in chapter 28. We are running out of scripture here in the book of Matthew. We've been doing the book in Matthew verse by verse for about a year and a half. So I want you right now comment below what book of the Bible you think we should do next. Most votes wins. Alright, we're back in Matthew 28. We're in verse number eight right now. So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Alright, so the women, they just experienced something pretty wild. It was completely beyond their understanding. The tomb was empty, an angel had appeared, Jesus was alive. That's a lot to take in. Man, and Matthew tells us they were afraid yet filled with joy. Alright, and what happens next is really important. Okay, they ran. They didn't walk, they ran. They didn't wait for the fear to disappear. They they stepped out in the fear. They didn't sit down until they understood everything. They didn't ask God for another sign before obeying, like, hey, send another angel, Lord, before I do anything here. No, no, they took the next step while they were still afraid. We often think that courage means reaching a place where we can step out when we're no longer afraid, when we're no longer scared. But biblical courage, it looks a lot different, all right? Courage is trusting God enough to move when fear comes with you. Maybe God is calling you right now to have a difficult conversation, or maybe to take on a new responsibility. Maybe it's a confession, maybe it's leadership, maybe it's reconciliation, or maybe it's a step that you've been avoiding because you're afraid of what might happen if you take that step. All right, fear doesn't automatically mean that you're heading in the wrong direction. No, sometimes fear simply means that the next step is a faithful step. All right, the women they left the tomb feeling afraid, but they ran anyway. Alright, so I want to hit you with the challenge today is to identify one thing that you've been avoiding in your life, that you've been delaying in your life because of fear. All right, and I don't wait until you feel confident. Take one concrete step today towards obedience in that area. Alright, let me pray for you. Heavenly Father, Father, give me the courage to obey you even when I'm feeling afraid, Lord. And help me stop waiting for the perfect confidence before making the next step. Just teach me to trust your direction more than I trust my emotions, Lord. When fear tells me to stop, remind me who goes before me. Give me the faith to move and the courage to obey and the willingness to run when you call me forward, Lord. It's in Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Hey, thank you for tuning in today.
