In another powerful stride towards fleet decarbonisation, DHL Express has announced the rollout of 45 fully-electric Mercedes-Benz eSprinter vans across major U.S. cities, reinforcing its global commitment to electrified logistics and sustainable last-mile delivery.
The deployment, spanning Chicago, Indianapolis, and Pittsburgh, forms part of DHL’s global strategy to ensure 66% of its last-mile fleet is electrified by 2030, marking a key milestone in its “EV-first” approach to operations across the Americas.
This move extends the long-standing partnership between DHL and Mercedes-Benz, which has already seen over 10,000 eSprinter vans integrated globally into DHL’s logistics ecosystem. The new U.S. rollout will be completed by the end of the month and will play a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions within dense urban environments, where the impact of zero-emission vehicles is most immediately felt.
Range, Reliability, and Real-World Performance
The new-generation Mercedes-Benz eSprinter boasts a factory-rated range of 206 miles, but DHL’s own operational data has shown real-world figures exceeding 240 miles per charge, the highest range among its U.S. EV fleet to date. This extended performance is particularly suited to the company’s urban delivery cycles, where lower-speed driving and regenerative braking extend efficiency.
Infrastructure to Match the Ambition
DHL isn’t stopping at vehicles. The company is also installing dedicated depot charging infrastructure in every deployment location to ensure operational uptime and seamless energy management.
