Most grooming salons don’t have a talent problem, they have a “nothing is written down” problem. Pet parents ask for better updates, groomers want fewer surprises, and front desk teams need clear rules they can follow without guessing. So we’re pulling back the curtain on Streamlined Pet Solutions, the new system we’re building to connect all three with simple, printable operations that actually work in real life.

Sophia Yvette sits down with us, Shannon and Tanya from Hound Therapy, to explain what Streamlined Pet Solutions is and who it’s for: aspiring groomers, current salon teams, and owners trying to grow beyond one-person knowledge. We talk about why we always ask “why before how,” and how that mindset led us to write down the basics many shops skip like how to answer the phone, how to communicate with clients, and how to capture the details that protect the dog and the business.

We also get practical about what’s inside the system: structured categories of forms and checklists, opening and closing procedures, supply and vendor guidance, role duties, and cheat sheets that help teams stay consistent. Along the way, we share stories from the shop floor that show what happens when expectations live only in someone’s head and why clear documentation can raise the standard for pet grooming across North Texas and far beyond.

If you want calmer handoffs, clearer communication, and a grooming business that runs on purpose, not panic, hit play. Subscribe, share this with a groomer or salon owner you care about, and leave a review telling us what checklist your shop needs most.

The Communication Gap In Grooming

SPEAKER_03

Pet parents want better communication, groomers want clearer systems, and businesses want tools that actually make their day easier. Today we're pulling back the curtain on a new solution designed to connect all three. Welcome back, everyone. I'm Sophia Yvette, co-host and producer, back in the studio with professional groomers at Hound Therapy, Shannon and Tanya. Hi, ladies, how has it been going today?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, it's been really good. I just figured out that my armchair handles went down. So it's been a great day.

SPEAKER_03

I love that. So let's uh let's just dive right in here.

What Streamlined Pet Solutions Is

SPEAKER_03

What is Streamlined Pet Solutions and how does it bridge the gap in the pet industry?

SPEAKER_01

I'm so excited to talk about this. Um so for anybody who's been listening to you know our tale talk here at Home Therapy, it's we're really here and want to educate our pet parents more so than we do the industry, because the industry has been, you know, around for a long time and they're kind of set in their ways. So uh what we're gonna talk about today, what we're sharing, what we're trying to do, we're just we're so excited about it. It's called Streamline Pet Solutions. Um and we're working for more of a standard across grooming for everybody. Uh, you know, what at Howm Therapy, we've always been more, we've not just been a regular grooming salon. We've always asked why before how, always. Um we we try to set ourselves apart and be a little standard uh above the rest. Uh we we like to every system that we've created, we write it down, we put it here so that we can have consistency across our shops. Uh we you know, we realize that those ideas just didn't, they didn't play out everywhere. Most shops don't do this. Corporations do it, but they don't do it specifically for their grooming departments and they're getting lost.

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

So uh we have created Streamlined Pet Solutions, which is exactly for that. It is for anybody who's wanting to get into grooming, anybody who's thought, hey, what what is grooming really like? You know, what what does it take to own a grooming shop? Uh anybody who is currently in a grooming salon that is wanting to maybe, you know, branch out and get a little bigger, what do I charge? How do I do this? There is nothing written right now for for those people. So we're writing it.

SPEAKER_02

Well, there is for, you know, those bigger corporations and those big box stores, but nothing for, you know, vet clinics, boarding, um, just regular grooming people that are.

SPEAKER_01

And even in the big box stores, I can tell you if you've talked to regular groomers there, they don't have, they have everything that they won't do based on, it's like reading the warning signs on a box. It doesn't, they they have a three-week training program, they have a six-week training program. Their main business is not grooming, and they're not focused mainly on grooming and how to do it better. We are.

Writing Down The Basics That Matter

SPEAKER_03

So, how does Streamline Pet Solutions improve communication between groomers, pet parents, and daycare staff?

SPEAKER_01

So for us, we want to make what we have here, what we've created is basic operations for how to answer the phone, how to communicate with a client. Um, businesses we found this from businesses calling us, wanting our students from our academy. And we don't just let our students work anywhere. We vet these people. Yeah, we and well, and we started working for these. I mean, I've worked for free for a couple of different um other grooming stores just to help our students transition over. Uh uh, so I mean, we really go above and beyond with our students, and that we found that people are now calling us and they they want to hire our students. We don't, we have a, you know, an alternating uh enrollment plan here. We have a year-long hands-on grooming academy uh that is it's sought after. People are wanting to hire the people that we've trained because we've taken on that initial step. They've taken on the initial step to take on a year out of their time to learn how to groom so that they can be placed in some place and know how to do the when I say basics, groom a basic dog. They are better than most groomers that I have that have come in here from seven to 12 years. They're conscientious, they're smart, they're on top of it, they know what questions to ask. Um what we've done here is it's it's part, it wasn't part of our business plan to open up an academy. So we did. Uh we trained. Then we started placing those people. It wasn't our our policy to to write down and share our our business policies with everybody. Um, you know, we we kept answering the same questions for people. Uh better businesses, better operations, writing down what's in these owners' heads so that they're able to pass this on to all of their employees to manage it. It's going to be better for everybody that gets their dog groomed. We want everybody to have access to what we have, not just here in Texas, not just here in Plano, but anywhere around the world. We want you to have something. And a lot of groomers, they know what they're doing, but it's in their head. It's not written down. So that communication and they don't know how to communicate it. Yeah. I say this all the time. Grooming, doing what I do is easy for me. This is what I do. Explaining what I do is a lot harder. It's much harder. Explaining what I do while I do it, and then show somebody else how to do it is exponentially harder. So I have written it down and I've found out that, you know, just hiring somebody isn't going to work. I still have to write it down. Training somebody, just telling them it that I still have to write it down. So we have broken it down literally piece by piece by piece. And we will have 12 categories that have 12 plus categories underneath those categories with forms, what you need to do to open and close your salon, what checklists do you need? Um, where do you buy tools, vendors, supply lists? Uh, how do you take good note taking? How do you talk to clients? How do you get what it is that they're wanting when they talk to you? Um, people just don't know that regularly. To me, it's common sense. It turns out it's not. So I'm writing it down and we are gonna, we are gonna structure this so that everybody has access to it.

Checklists Forms And Salon Systems

SPEAKER_03

Wow, Shannon. So what features do you think will make the biggest difference for busy grooming salons all around the world?

SPEAKER_01

I think that what is gonna help them is what they think that they already know that's in their head. Um, I can't tell you how many times this has happened to me, especially prior to this. Um, I, you know, I'm grooming a dog and I'm I'm looking over at somebody next to me, or I've got a client that's said, hey, what did you do? And I look over and there's no notes, there's nothing. And I said, Well, you know, why didn't you do this? I didn't know I was supposed to. Um how did you not know that you were supposed to? Um, you know, I've had a receptionist who actually was cutting on a dog. And I asked her, I said, Why are you cutting a dog? You're, you know, she goes, Oh, I didn't know I wasn't supposed to. She has a master's, an MBA. And and I I'm like in business. I didn't know that I needed to write down what a receptionist duties were at a grooming salon, uh, but I did. Uh, and knowing that and being able to write it, I know how to do these things. Having the to take the time to write that down as a business owner, I'm busy running a business. So this is going to easily allow a good business owner or somebody who wants to improve or grow, have a sounding board, a backboard. We'll do custom as well, obviously, if if you know you have more than one, but this is gonna allow them to just easily research and download it and say, okay, this is what I need. I can find it, I can print it. I know I could probably write my own closing checklist. I know I could write my bathing checklist. I know I can, you know, write my basic cheat sheet on how to groom a dog or talk to a client or how to answer the telephone. But I've already done it. So it's much easier. I wish I could have.

SPEAKER_02

I had much and a lot of business owners don't have the time to step away and and create all those. I would have printed it's taken us a long time to write it.

SPEAKER_01

I would have printed it hands down for the amount of time that I have taken to write these down, examples, sheets, how to pay your pay scale, what it means, you know, all of these things that I'm teaching business owners that are placing our students, because now our students know all of this. What who doesn't know it are are the places they're going to work. So now we've branched off into this. So we're really, really excited about it. And it's it's kind of our way of regulating the thing that we love so much about what we do, uh, and being able to give that to everybody else. It's just really exciting. Um, so we hope that it it takes off. We'll dive more into it as we take off um further on down the line, but we're really excited.

How Streamlined Went From Idea To Real

SPEAKER_02

I have a question for Shannon.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

When those first businesses started calling us.

SPEAKER_01

Oh gosh.

SPEAKER_02

And we were just Streamline was a figment of our imagination. Did you think we would be sitting here talking about Streamline now?

SPEAKER_01

No, absolutely not. This was, I mean, this Streamline is something that we have thought about doing um a long time ago. And it just kind of hit me what exactly that was gonna be. It was, you know, consulting. It was just me doing, helping you, me helping this person, me helping that person to why don't I just write it down and then they instead of calling me, they can just print it.

SPEAKER_02

It started with her going to build a complete person's salon for that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it it was this is crazy. It's just such a fun journey. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Well, thank you both for breaking that down for us today and giving everyone a first look into streamlined pet solutions. We'll see everyone back here next time.
