A casual conversation with a friend triggered the realization that I've strived to be the father I wish that I had, in turn encouraging me to share this story about my parents. We all deal with childhood traumas -- obsessing about them can paralyze us, while ruminating about them and working through them can be a healthy catharsis. Here I tell part of my story, hoping that by sharing it we can explore ourselves in ways that make our lives more meaningful, and our parenting even better.
