Summer in the Psalms: A Greater Promise - Jimmy Contino, Guest Preacher 08 23 26

Psalm 132 reminds us that because the Lord never fails to keep his promises, we can and we ought to build our lives on what He has promised. David longed to build a house for God, but God told David that he would not be the one to build it. Instead, God promised to establish David’s house and raise up a king from his line. David could not fulfill his desire, and his actions had consequences, but that would not cancel God’s faithfulness. Solomon, David's son, would build the temple, but the promise pointed beyond Solomon to Jesus—the greater Son of David, the true King, the One who would come to dwell with His people, bring salvation, and ultimately bring His people home to the heavenly Zion. Psalm 132 invites us to stop building our lives on our own ability to keep promises and instead build our lives on the promise of the One who never breaks His word: Jesus is preparing a place for His people, and one day we will be home with Him forever.
