Grace in Relationships: Forgiveness as God Forgave Us
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Forgiveness isn't just a nice idea—it's essential for spiritual growth and healthy relationships. This powerful prayer session dives deep into what it truly means to extend grace to others as Christ has extended it to us.
Drawing from Colossians 3:12-13, we explore how genuine forgiveness transforms not just our relationships, but our entire spiritual journey. In a culture that normalizes "canceling" those who wrong us, believers are called to a radically different approach—one that reflects the unmerited favor we've received from God.
The most challenging aspect of forgiveness often isn't the concept itself, but the hidden areas of bitterness we don't even recognize anymore. Through heartfelt prayer, we ask the Holy Spirit to shine light on these blind spots, performing spiritual "heart surgery" to remove roots of unforgiveness that may have been growing for years or even generations.
This isn't about becoming a doormat. Rather, it's about approaching conflict with Christ-like strength that refuses to repay evil for evil. We acknowledge that sometimes we focus so intently on others' failings that we miss where we ourselves need to grow. True grace requires both humility to recognize our own shortcomings and courage to extend forgiveness even when it isn't deserved.
The stakes couldn't be higher. As we pray, we confront a sobering truth: "We don't want to miss heaven over unforgiveness." All our spiritual disciplines and good works can be undermined by harboring resentment. Yet when we surrender these hurts to God, we experience the freedom to "walk in the newness of life" and fulfill our God-given purpose.
Take time today to ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any unforgiveness in your heart, and join us in praying for grace to permeate every relationship. Scripture Reading and Introduction
Speaker 1Good morning and welcome another day to morning prayer. We're thankful for being here today. Our scripture today is coming from Colossians, the third chapter, verses 12 and 13. In the New International Version of the Bible and the New International Version of the Bible. They read gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another. If any of you has a grievance against someone, forgive as the Lord forgave you. Amen. We thank the Lord.
Prayer for Cleansing and Strength
Speaker 1We're praying this morning for God's grace in our relationship, grace in our relationship, and we're going to go before the Lord in prayer. Father, your name is lifted high now, god, your name is reverence even now. Father and God, we give you praise and glory. Hallelujah, we give you praise and glory. You are Alpha and Omega, oh God. You're the beginning and finisher of our faith. Oh Lord. We call you El Roy, hallelujah. We call you the God that sees. Oh God. We call you Jehovah Jireh. Oh God, you have been a provider to us. We call you the good shepherd. Oh Lord, you provide, you provide, you walk with us. We call you the good shepherd. Oh Lord, you provide, you provide, you walk with us, you protect us. Oh, we thank you, lord. We thank you, lord. We thank you Lord, hallelujah, hallelujah, holy Spirit, hallelujah, have your way in our midst, hallelujah, oh hallelujah. We bless the name of Jesus today. Oh God, I'm asking, lord, that you'll lead and guide this time of prayer. And guide this time of prayer, holy Spirit. Have your way in our midst. In the name of Jesus, oh God, we're praying this morning. We're praying, lord, that you'll help us. God, in the name of Jesus, we're praying this morning, lord, that you'll wash us, lord, and create in us a clean heart and renew a right spirit within us. In the name of Jesus. Oh Holy Spirit, we need you to cleanse us and pur're wrong. We need you to guide us into all truth, that we be not deceived. In the name of Jesus, oh, we need you, lord. We need you, god, to strengthen us to live a life that you want us to live, a life that you have commanded us to live, that you've desired for us to live. Oh God, strengthen your people, god, oh Lord, strengthen them. Oh God, we pray not just for forgiveness, but for strength. God, oh God, strength for this leg of the journey. Oh God, strength for this day.
Heart of Forgiveness and Self-Reflection
Speaker 1In the name of Jesus, oh God, we pray, lord, that we walk in the victory that you have afforded us. In the name of Jesus, oh God, we thank you, lord, that on the cross, oh God, on Calvary's cross, you hung you. We take up the grace that you have left for us, that we take up the grace that you fought for us to have, the favor, lord, that you fought for us to have, lord, oh God, the healing that you fought for us to have. Oh, in the name of Jesus, oh God, we thank you that every promise of God is yes and amen. Oh God, we thank you that every promise, oh God, the promise of good things, oh God, is yes and amen. And, oh God, even the way that you correct us in the word is yes and amen, oh God. Whatever you say, god, that is what goes. Oh God, however you say, it will be, it will be that way, will be that way. Oh God, we know that the Bible is right, hallelujah, and somebody else is wrong. Oh God, we ask today, lord, that you'll give us, Father, oh God, a heart of forgiveness. In the name of Jesus, we're praying for grace in our relationships. Oh God, help us to extend grace, god, oh Lord, to those that we come in contact with. In the name of Jesus, oh God, from that person that might be driving on the road and driving crazy, oh God, to that person that is in our personal life, that may have trespassed against us. Oh God, we pray. We pray that you'll give us, lord, to be people that extend grace, to understand the unmerited favor that you have given to us, lord, to understand that, except for the grace of God, there go I, to understand, hallelujah, that we're only as good as we are through your righteousness, oh God. I'm praying, lord, that you'll give us a heart of forgiveness. Oh God, we don't want one thing that will prevent us from seeing your face in peace, oh God.
Speaker 1Sometimes we have, hallelujah, oh God, different things within us, oh, different places of bitterness and unforgiveness that we don't even detect anymore. Oh, holy Spirit, I pray, I pray that you'll be a mirror today. I pray that you'll be a mirror and help us to see. Oh, I pray that you'll be a light today and help us to see. Help us to see ourselves and to see where unforgiveness abides. Oh, help us to see ourselves and to see where we ought to be better with how we deal with people.
Speaker 1In the name of Jesus, oh God, oh Lord. We know, lord, that everybody else is not always the problem, oh God, sometimes it is us. Oh God, sometimes it is our need to grow. Oh God, sometimes it is us, lord, that you are commanding Lord to not fixate on the small thing, on the small beam, the small stick in somebody else's eye while we have a beam in our own. Oh God, as the word of God illustrated. Oh God, help us to not see and fixate on the things that everybody else is doing wrong and to lose sight of where we need to improve. Lord that she'll be Lord over our relationships. Be Lord over our relationships. In the name of Jesus.
Speaker 1Oh God, we need you, lord, to govern between us and others. Lord, oh God, we need you to lead us in how we talk to others. Oh God, we need you to lead us in how we treat others. Oh God, help us to not act in the standards of this world, but help us to act in the standards of the Bible. Oh God, the standards of your word. Oh God, your word. It leads us, it shows us how to handle conflict. Oh God, your word. It leads us and it tells us how to talk to one another, how to sort through issues.
Healing Brokenness and Transformation
Speaker 1God in the book of Proverbs. Lord, you give us wisdom and instruction, oh God. Even, oh God, in the New Testament, you instruct us and you give us how to deal with one another. Oh God, you never, hallelujah, gave us to think that everything would be a bed of roses, gave us to think that everything would be a bed of roses. But, god, if you left instructions on how we ought to deal with each other. Lord, you knew, lord, in your divine wisdom. You knew that we would need help, that we would have difficult personalities that we deal with. Oh God, you knew in your infinite wisdom that we would need you to govern between us. Oh God, we thank you, we ask today that you'll govern between our relationships, in the name of Jesus, holy Spirit. Govern between our relationships, oh God, we need you today. We need you today. We need you today. We need your help. We need your help.
Speaker 1God, oh Lord, the world says it's okay to cancel other people, it's okay to stop talking, it's okay to walk away. Oh, the word says it's okay to just cut people off. Oh God, the hallelujah, the world, hallelujah. They say two strikes and you're out, three strikes and you're out. But, god, that is not your word, that is not what you tell us.
Speaker 1Oh God, give us to embrace and walk in relationships as Christ has shown us. Oh God, we are the salt of the earth. We are a peculiar people we are, oh God, help us. Oh God, we're asking that you'll give us how to act. In the name of Jesus. Oh God, you didn't call us to be doormats, but you called us to be humble. Oh God, you didn't call us to be doormats, but you called us to be meek. Oh God, you called us, lord, oh God, to be examples in the earth. Help us, god. Help us, god, to be able, lord, to get over some situations. Oh God, there are issues and times where we were clearly done wrong, oh God, even in our innocence. Oh God, even in our trusting other people. Oh God, there are times where evil was done to us, oh God, but you told us not to repay evil for evil. Oh God, help us to get over.
Speaker 1Oh God, whatever that thing may be, heal all brokenness, heal all brokenness. Heal every broken heart, heal every broken mind. In the name of Jesus, oh God, heal us In our emotions. God, in the name of Jesus, oh God, heal us. Oh God, heal us. Oh God, heal us. We lift up the brokenness to you, oh Father, touch it and heal. In the name of Jesus, holy Spirit, touch the brokenness and heal it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, heal it in the name of Jesus.
Speaker 1Oh, we need you, lord. We need you, lord, to live this life and to be the vessels that you want us to be, to be the servants that will hear the words well done, thy good and faithful servant. Enter into my rest, enter into my joy. Oh God, we need your help, god, oh God, some of these things are not easy things. Some of these things have been sitting in us for years. Some of these things have caused us to be bitter and we didn't even know and we did not even recognize. Oh God, we pray for transformation. We pray for transformation. It's any man being Christ. He is a new creature. Old things are passed away. Behold, all things have become new. Oh God, help us, lord, to be the new creature, the new creature. The bonds of yesterday be broken. The bonds of yesterday be broken. The yoke of yesterday be destroyed.
Speaker 1We cancel the assignment of unforgiveness on our lives. In the name of Jesus, oh God, we pull up every root of bitterness over our lives, in our lives, In the name of Jesus. Oh, we call upon the name of our mighty God. We call upon the name of our mighty God and we ask that you'll do surgery on our hearts. We ask that you'll do surgery on our minds In the name of Jesus. Have your way in us, god.
Victory Over Unforgiveness
Speaker 1In the mighty name of Jesus, oh God, I'm praying this morning and I cancel the assignment of the enemy over the lives of your people. I pray this morning and I am a mama. I cancel and destroy every plot of wickedness over your people. In the name of Jesus. Oh, I thank you, lord. I thank you, god, that we're walking in the newness of life today, oh God, I thank you, lord, that we are walking, oh God, in purpose today. Oh God, I thank you, lord, hallelujah, that you've given us grace and strength, lord, to come out, to come out, to come out, god, to come out of every situation that was meant to hold us, to come out of every situation that the enemy set up to send us to hell. Oh God, we thank you, lord. We thank you, lord, for your power. We thank you, lord. You are mighty to save, you are mighty to deliver. You are mighty to answer our prayers. You are mighty to destroy the yoke.
Speaker 1Oh God, every generational curse be bound in the name of Jesus. I'm not my mother, oh God, every generational curse, oh God, oh God. We declare Lord, oh God, oh God, we declare Lord, oh God, that the giants, that the Egyptians, that those enemies that we have fought and we saw yesterday, oh God, that we'll see no more. We'll see them no more in our bloodline. In the name of Jesus, god, we press this morning. We press this morning, we push and we stretch ourselves. We stretch our faith this morning. We stretch our faith this morning, oh God, we press, lord hallelujah, towards the prize of the high calling which is in Jesus, which is in Christ. We press, god, into the places that you're calling us to. Oh God, deep cryeth out to deep.
Speaker 1Oh God, these stumbling blocks of unforgiveness, oh, they won't trip us up today. Oh God, we thank you, we thank you, we thank you and God, we thank and praise you, god, for victory over the situation, victory over the adversary, victory over disobedience, victory over pride. Oh God, victory. We thank you, we thank you for victory over these giants in our lives. In the name of Jesus, god, I thank you, I thank you that every need is met today, hallelujah. I thank you, God, that every need is being met today. I thank you for grace and favor resting on your people. Oh God, I thank you that every place that their foot shall try, oh God, that you will give it to them. God, that you'll give them, oh God, that mountain, that you'll give them the victory, oh God, victory over their adversaries. God, oh Lord, we thank you for victory in our homes, in our workplaces, in our schools. God, we thank you for victory everywhere that we go.
Closing Thoughts and Devotional
Speaker 1Oh God, I'm asking, lord, I'm asking for you to cover, for you to protect Holy Spirit. Cover and protect Holy Spirit. Keep us and preserve us. Holy Spirit, heal us of every infirmity. Oh, strengthen these weak bodies. Oh strengthen this clay. Oh, strengthen us, strengthen us to be able to walk in our calling and to do whatever it is that God is commanding us to do. We thank you for holy boldness today. We thank you for the strength to declare hallelujah, the gospel of Jesus Christ, to declare our testimony, to show others the love of Christ. Thank you for strength to do it, god, oh, father, even now, we're asking that you'll do these things In Jesus's mighty name, thank God and amen. Amen, hallelujah, we're thanking the Lord for grace in our relationships.
Speaker 1Today. We're thanking God. We're thanking God for helping us to get over and to get past and to go further in the places that used to trip us up and the places that used to cause us to not be able to go forward. Hallelujah. And so our devotional today, bracing Our Relationships. It can be found on our Facebook page and on our Instagram page at HealingWordsCOGIC.
Speaker 1A description of the devotional reads braces the glue that holds relationships together. Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another. If any of you has a grievance against someone, forgive as the Lord forgave you. Colossians 3, 12-13, the NIV version of the Bible. Be quick to love, slow to speak and eager to forgive. Let his grace flow through every word and every wound. Amen. We thank the Lord today for that description of the devotional. There is more to it on our social media platforms Amen.
Speaker 1We're thanking the Lord for each one of you that is praying with us, that has prayed with us this morning. I thank God for you. I thank God for you. I thank God for you. I thank God for your prayers, even for our ministry, even for this morning prayer and this morning podcast. Amen. We thank God for those that are listening to the podcast. Numbers continue to go up, the number of downloads continue to go up and we just thank God for what he is doing in our midst. We thank the Lord for Pastor Mark Bayman Jr, pastor of Healing Word, and for the Healing Word family. I thank God for each one of you.
Speaker 1All right, and so we're preparing to go into a new day. Let the Lord lead you in your relationships. Let the Lord lead you and show you if there be any areas of unforgiveness within you. We don't want to miss heaven over unforgiveness. We don't want to miss. We don't want to do all this work down here. We don't want to do all this and toil and work to live right and have unforgiveness in our hearts, have bitterness in our hearts that we haven't allowed the Holy Spirit to have reign over. All right. So spend time with the Lord in that time. Ask the Lord to show you, ask the Holy Spirit to show you any bitterness, any unforgiveness, and he will. He will do it because it is his desire, it is his heart for us all to be saved, for all of us to hallelujah, reap the reward and the benefit that he bled for us to have. Amen, all right, have a beautiful day. God bless all of you.
