In this companion episode, we present the other side of the remarkable 7-inch vinyl record recently added to our archive: the Prize Day Hymn, "O Holy Father."
Recorded at the school during the 1960s and digitally extracted from the original 7" vinyl, this recording was kindly made available to us after the vinyl was sent to us in June 2026 by a record dealer in Kent after he came across it. Together with the school song Χαίρετε, it provides a rare and evocative glimpse into the musical and ceremonial life of the school more than half a century ago.
For generations of pupils, Prize Day was one of the most important events in the school calendar, bringing together students, staff, parents and distinguished guests. This hymn formed part of that tradition, its words and melody helping to mark an occasion of celebration, reflection and achievement.
Today, the recording offers more than just a performance; it is a piece of living history, preserving the voices and spirit of a bygone era.
Join us as we revisit this treasured recording of "O Holy Father" and experience once again the sounds of a 1960s Prize Day.
Listen, reflect and enjoy this unique window into the school's past.
This pairs nicely with the Χαίρετε episode 29, creating a "Side A / Side B" theme around the rediscovered vinyl record.
