The party finally sets off toward the Black City, and within five minutes it’s clear this 12-day journey is going to feel more like twelve years.

Requiem and Zelphira find themselves trapped in a cart with Prince Lariel II, who reveals several… let’s call them quirks. Some charming, some alarming, some that probably shouldn’t be said out loud in front of polite company. By mile three, the girls have silently agreed on one thing: this is going to require emotional hazard pay.

Then—ambush! The roadside pack of would-be attackers turns out to be the mimicking variety, which is somehow worse. The party handles it with their usual grace: panic, yelling, and Nyx doing something ill-advised but spectacular.

Later, at camp, things calm down just enough to allow for the real danger: meaningful conversations.
Nyx and Ysolde have a tense heart-to-heart that leaves both of them frayed at the edges, and everyone else pretending not to eavesdrop while absolutely eavesdropping.

By nightfall, the road ahead feels longer, the prince feels weirder, and the party’s secrets feel closer to the surface than ever.
