QUESTIONS
There is an art to question marks Enjoy them while believing When mystery starts breaking through And intuition strengthens into certainty
We are bombarded with questions every day in the media. But one question is most important of all. It is the one to ask and reflect on.
Questions
Hello, it’s Michael. Shalom to you! So many questions every day. Let’s have a look at it.
Life is full of questions. There’s a question mark behind the past and one in front of the future. The present throws up many questions as well. These days the media makes certain that questions will entice me to ask, ‘Oh, what’s this all about?’ It is easy to become hooked on questions.
I refuse buying into much of it. Not that I’m against questions. In my studies I have enjoyed being confronted with many. But the most important question, that changed my life, I asked years ago. ‘Lord, are you for real?’
The response was a little startling. ‘Whether I’m real, well, that’s up to you, Michael,’ was what came to mind. It struck me that the actual question facing me was whether I would accept that the Lord might become real to me. Unless I would take divine reality personally, that reality would mean little. God generalised, is God unrealised.
A little poem.

When mystery starts breaking through
And intuition strengthens
Into certainty
Questions about God confront us with mystery in which rational responses have their limit. I like mystery and enjoy its questions. It speaks to my intuition and spiritual sensitivity. The art of dealing with the question marks concerning God is to firmly believe in the existence of God. To believe that God is good and easy to live with. Suggesting otherwise paints the wrong picture. God is kind and full of compassion.
I enjoy the presence of Jesus. Somehow, he has made his presence real to me in my soul. Doubt may try to creep in, which is normal, but I wipe it aside. Doubt is the flipside of believing and everyone will experience it. It must not lead to double mindedness for that will drain the vitality out of Christian living. God is for real.
In spending time with the Lord, the mysteries of God become alive. What cannot be proven becomes a certainty within the soul. ‘Is Jesus real?’ ‘Oh, yes, I know it!’ His presence is not a fantasy. ‘Does God love me?’ ‘Absolutely!’ Answers to such questions become a conviction as I keep sensing and affirming their truth. My faith becomes a comfort and a joy. Getting to that point is not difficult. Seek and you will find, said the Lord.
World affairs interest me but becoming entangled in its questions I avoid. There is no end to it, and it offers little but possible agitation. The most profound question in my life has been answered and it is wonderful. The Lord has become real to me. I believe in him.
How about church, you may ask, must I believe in that? Sure, but it is a different kind of belief. Church is not God and never can be. It is a religious organisation that is meant to facilitate the wellbeing of Christians in honour of God. It raises and answers many a question and has many a problem. It is not essential to attend church in knowing God, from whom life originates and who will reach out regardless of place and circumstance.
Jesus fully knows every person in their uniqueness. He is the answer to that most important question in life. Jesus is always near and offers a willing welcome. No matter what, no matter who, he cares deeply about you, and me, and everyone – without question.
Keep it simple – keep it focused. I wish you well!
