Welcome back to Much More: Adventures — a magical bedtime podcast where every night brings a brand new tale. Tonight’s episode of Jenny the 10-Foot Giant is about music, mismatched shoes, and a school dance Jenny will never forget.

Are you tucked in?

Good.

Let’s begin.

It was the week of the school dance, and the entire hallway buzzed with excitement.

Posters glittered on the walls — The Annual Starlight Ball!

Glitter pens circled names on paper, whispers floated through locker doors, and someone even folded a love note into a paper airplane that accidentally landed on the principal’s head.

Jenny, who was exactly 10 feet tall and had to duck under every single doorway in school, was watching it all happen with wide eyes and a little flutter in her heart.

“Are you going?” asked her best friend Ben, who always carried around a pencil behind his ear and had permanent sawdust on his shoes.

“I think so,” Jenny said. “But I’m still figuring out… who with.”

Ben smiled in that quiet, hopeful way of his.

Jenny noticed, but didn’t say anything.

Jenny started making a list of possible dance partners.

There was Marcus, who once complimented her drawing in art class.

And Lila, who had the best dance moves in all of sixth grade.

And Jamie, who once held the door open for her and blushed furiously when she said thank you.

One by one, Jenny tried spending time with them.

But with Marcus, there were too many awkward silences.

With Lila, they couldn’t agree on a song they both liked.

With Jamie, he kept talking about how tall she was and nothing else.

Something just didn’t fit.

The night before the dance, Jenny found a dress she loved — sparkly and blue like the sky at midnight.

But her shoes?

Not so simple.

She tried on every pair in her closet.

Too tight.

Too small.

Too pinchy.

Jenny flopped down on the floor with a thud.

“What’s the point of a dance,” she sighed, “if you can’t even find shoes to dance in?”

That’s when Ben showed up at her front door, holding a shoebox the size of a toaster oven.

“I made you these,” he said, a little nervous.

Inside were wooden platform sandals, carved smooth, polished shiny, and painted her favorite color — midnight blue.

Jenny blinked.

“They’re… perfect.”

And they were.

As Jenny tried on the shoes and spun around the living room, she realized something.

Every time someone asked who she was going with, she never felt quite right saying anyone’s name.

Except Ben’s.

He didn’t talk at her. He listened.

He didn’t stare at her height. He built her shoes.

He didn’t ask her to be different. He made space for her to be herself.

That’s when it clicked.

She didn’t just want to go to the dance.

She wanted to go with him.

She grabbed her coat and ran — carefully — all the way to Ben’s house.

Jenny was about to knock when the door flew open.

Ben stood there in a button-up shirt with wood glue still on one sleeve, holding something behind his back.

“I was just coming to find you,” he said.

Then he pulled out a small card that said,

WILL YOU GO TO THE DANCE WITH ME?

Each word carved into the wood, one careful letter at a time.

Jenny grinned from ear to ear.

“Yes,” she said. “I was just coming to ask you the same thing.”

They both laughed.

Then Jenny bent down and gave him the biggest hug her ten-foot arms could manage.

That night, Ben showed up at Jenny’s house with a paper flower corsage he made himself.

Jenny wore her sparkly dress and her custom shoes.

Together, they walked into the dance — one tall, one small — but perfectly matched.

They danced under twinkling lights.

They laughed at the snack table.

And when Jenny’s favorite song came on, Ben didn’t know the steps…

but he made them up anyway.

It was the best night ever.

And from that night on, Jenny knew:

Sometimes the right person isn’t the most exciting, or the tallest, or the best dancer.

Sometimes, they’re just the one who knows how to make you feel at home — even in giant shoes.

Goodnight, dreamers.

Sleep tall.

Sleep proud.

And we’ll see you next time on Jenny the 10-Foot Giant.

And don’t forget, adventure awaits, every night before bedtime at Much More Adventures.
