Welcome back to Much More: Adventures — a magical bedtime podcast where every night brings a brand new tale. Tonight’s episode of Jenny the 10-Foot Giant is about sneezes that shake the house, soup that heals the soul, and the sweet, quiet love between a girl and her grandma.
Are you cozy?
Blanket tucked in?
Good.
Let’s begin.
After school, Jenny skipped her usual route and headed to Grandma Georgie’s house — her favorite place for after-school snacks, warm hugs, and giant-sized stories.
She knocked on the door.
No answer.
She knocked again.
Still nothing, until…
“AHH-CHOOO!”
The house rumbled like a mini-earthquake, and a gust of air blasted through the keyhole so hard it blew Jenny’s backpack right off her shoulders.
“Grandma?” she called.
The door creaked open and Grandma Georgie, who stood at a towering twelve feet tall with fluffy gray curls and slippers the size of bathtubs, peeked out with a red nose and watery eyes.
“Oh, sweet pea,” she sniffled. “I’ve got the sniffles. I think I’ll have to cancel our snack today.”
Jenny frowned but only for a second.
Then she smiled.
“That’s okay,” she said. “I’ll be the snack chef today.”
Jenny rolled up her sleeves and marched straight to the kitchen.
“Grandma, how do you make your famous chicken noodle soup?”
“Boil the water,” Georgie said from her couch, wrapped in three quilts. “Then add the carrots, celery, noodles, and chicken. Don’t forget a pinch of magic.”
Jenny nodded like a pro.
She filled the biggest pot they had — it looked more like a kiddie pool — and turned on the heat.
While the soup bubbled, she got to work on comfort duty.
She brought Grandma a fuzzy pair of socks.
Then a giant glass of water.
Then she remembered something…
“Wait here!” Jenny said.
She zoomed into the pantry, grabbed the honey jar, and returned with a heaping spoonful.
“Just like you did for me,” she said, offering it to Grandma Georgie.
Grandma smiled and took a lick.
“Mmm. That’s the good stuff."
An hour later, Jenny carefully spooned the steaming soup into an extra-wide bowl.
She carried it to her grandma’s bed, along with a blanket and a story.
As Grandma Georgie sipped, Jenny flopped beside her and began retelling every detail of her week — from basketball tryouts (she accidentally dented the hoop!) to the school dance with Ben (who had two left feet, but danced anyway).
They giggled until Grandma’s laugh turned into a yawn.
“You’re a wonder,” Grandma whispered.
Jenny blushed.
“I’ll come tomorrow,” she promised, “with something fun.”
The next day, Jenny brought a deck of giant-sized playing cards.
The day after that, she brought a bouquet of wildflowers she picked herself.
And every day, she made Grandma’s chicken noodle soup — with less and less help each time.
By the end of the week, she could do it all herself — even the pinch of magic.
Grandma Georgie slowly got better - her sneezes got smaller, her voice got stronger, and by Friday, she even played a full round of Go Fish without a nap.
“Jenny,” she said that evening, “you turned my sniffles into something pretty special.”
Jenny hugged her tight.
“I think I liked this week even more than snack time.”
Now that Grandma Georgie was feeling better, Jenny didn’t stop visiting.
They made it official — every Tuesday and Thursday, Jenny would come over after school.
Sometimes they’d cook together.
Sometimes they’d play games.
And sometimes they’d just lie in bed, sip soup, and tell stories until the stars came out.
And even when Grandma wasn’t sick anymore…
Jenny still brought the honey.
Just in case.
And from that week on, Jenny knew:
Sometimes the best way to help someone feel better isn’t with medicine, or magic, or even soup.
It’s just being there, with love, laughter, and a spoonful of honey.
Goodnight, dreamers.
Sleep tall.
Sleep kind.
And we’ll see you next time on Jenny the 10-Foot Giant.
And don’t forget, adventure awaits, every night before bedtime at Much More Adventures.
