Welcome back to Much More: Adventures — a magical bedtime podcast where every night brings a brand new tale. Tonight’s episode of Jenny the 10-Foot Giant is about recess, reaching high places, and discovering that strength is more than just muscle.
Are you tucked in?
Blanket cozy?
Great.
Let’s begin.
It was a sunny day and recess had just begun.
The girls’ basketball team was already on the court, bouncing balls, shouting plays, and running drills.
Jenny, with her backpack still slung over one shoulder, walked up with a hopeful smile.
“Can I play too?” she asked.
The team captain, Alexia, spun the ball on one finger and shrugged.
“Teams are full,” she said. “Maybe next time.”
Jenny nodded, trying not to let the sting show.
She wandered to the swing set and plopped into the biggest swing.
But the chain creaked, groaned, and it gave way.
Jenny landed in the sand with a soft thud.
She sighed, brushed off her knees, and walked to a quiet bench to watch the game from afar.
Back on the court, Alexia went in for a flashy dunk.
She leapt up high,
the ball soared,
clang!
It smacked the rim and flew way off course…
Right into the branches of the tallest tree on the playground.
The team groaned.
“Nooo! That was our only ball!”
Before anyone could come up with a plan, the teacher clapped her hands.
“Game over! Everyone inside — it’s time for math class!”
The kids grumbled but followed her in.
Jenny was the last to leave the bench.
In class, the teacher called roll.
“Ben?”
“Here.”
“Sasha?”
“Here.”
“Alexia?”
Silence.
Heads turned.
Alexia’s seat was empty.
“Where could she be?” the teacher asked.
That’s when someone pointed at the window.
“There!”
Outside, Alexia was halfway up the tree — climbing, wobbling, reaching.
“I almost got it!” she shouted.
But then her foot slipped.
She clung to the branch, wide-eyed.
“Help!” she cried.
Her teammates rushed outside.
“Be careful!”
“Try climbing down!”
“You got this, Alexia!”
The teacher tried giving directions from below.
But Alexia was frozen.
Too scared to move.
Jenny stepped forward.
“I have an idea,” she said gently.
“If you can step onto my shoulders, I can carry you down.”
Alexia shook her head.
“I don’t need help. I can do it on my own.”
But just then, the branch gave a little crack.
Alexia yelped and clung tighter.
“Okay, okay,” she said quickly. “Help me.”
Jenny stood beneath the tree and rose to her tiptoes.
“On three,” she said.
“One… two… three!”
Alexia stepped carefully onto Jenny’s shoulders.
Jenny held steady, walked her slowly down, and set her gently on the grass.
Everyone clapped.
Then Jenny looked up —
and with one easy stretch, plucked the basketball from the highest branch.
Even louder cheers this time.
Alexia turned bright red — and then broke into a grin.
“You saved me,” she said.
“And the ball.”
That afternoon, as the team gathered again for a quick scrimmage, Alexia waved Jenny over.
“Hey, Jenny,” she called. “Wanna play?”
Jenny paused.
“Are the teams still full?”
Alexia tossed her the ball.
“Not anymore. There’s always a spot for you.”
Jenny smiled wide.
She passed, she dribbled, she even tried a shot of her own — and the whole team cheered.
Sometimes, being left out just means you haven’t been seen for who you really are…
yet.
And from that day on, Jenny knew:
Real strength isn’t just about height or helping others down from trees.
It’s about standing tall, even when you feel left out — and making room for others to shine, too.
Goodnight, dreamers.
Sleep tall.
Sleep brave.
And we’ll see you next time on Jenny the 10-Foot Giant.
And don’t forget, adventure awaits, every night before bedtime at Much More Adventures.
