SPEAKER_00And I'm Brian Cale. You know, Natalie, I love a county fair. It's such a true slice of Americana. It's an opportunity to see our fellow Americans at their best, in my opinion. Friends, neighbors, and fellow citizens of every color and stripe coming out to enjoy time together, celebrating local American culture and entertainment. And I think it is especially illuminating when something as simple and joyful as a county fair is juxtaposed against larger issues we are facing in these same spaces, such as Kenton County's Site Readiness Initiative or SRI, and how it might lead to development that can permanently alter the beautiful land and the character of our rural areas, or the potential for camera surveillance and monitoring systems that suddenly are peering into and recording our daily activities.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it was so great to be there at the fair and to talk about these issues. And we're not saying that initiatives like SRI or FLAT camera systems can't provide good solutions to challenges right here in Kenton County or across the country, but they can't be developed and deployed behind closed doors. Residents need to be involved with the decision making, and this is why we need to elect strong Democrats to bring transparency back to the county commissioner positions and the fiscal courts. Democrats will ensure their constituents have a seat at that table.
SPEAKER_00That's right. And it was great to hear from the three Democratic Kenton County Commissioner candidates this week. And it could not have been more timely as the two big issues we led with are the major topics of conversation right in the heart of Independence, Kentucky, the home of the Kenton County Fair.
SPEAKER_01Yes, indeed. And Ben Bach, who is running for commissioner in District 2, spoke a lot about the SRI meeting that took place. He's so well versed. He attends every single meeting there is. And then Jordan Baldridge, candidate for a District 3 commissioner, offered up a some really good information regarding flock cameras.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that was great information. Plus, it was a good opportunity to hear these candidates' positions on these two issues. You know, something I don't think we hear enough of, you know, what a candidate actually thinks and actually hopes to accomplish if elected. And to round out the trifecta of commissioners, Sarah Frelick running for District One Commissioner, offered a big picture view and tied all of these issues back to the importance of transparency and being a voice for the people.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it is truly representing the people. In fact, that was the theme that we heard throughout all three interviews. Each candidate is very passionate about keeping residents informed and inviting their participants in on the process. So while we are seeing a lack of transparency from some parts of our local government, people are taking a stand. And it's not just happening locally. I think, Brian, I think some of this is just a symptom of what is happening at a national level. This country is being led by the most blatantly corrupt administration this country has ever seen. And we've gone through this kind of slow burn of our civil rights, which is being gaslighted by an administration obsessed with power and that has a complete disregard of the Constitution and our American values. So Americans are waking up. It sure is funny how people are like, oh, you know, I'm not political. They sure do get political and it's their tax dollars being stolen from them or wasted and their rights are being trampled on.
SPEAKER_00So Yeah. For sure, man. That's right. That's right. And this slow burn's been taking place since Trump took office in 2016, and it accelerated somewhat when he returned to the presidency in 2024, especially when the adults in the room from his first administration were replaced by absolute loyalists and fellow grifters. And now, after 18 months of Trump 2.0, it's quite evident that most Americans, even those who once identified as part of the MAGA movement, have had enough. Probably the most horrific and heartbreaking of the recent Trump regime missteps were the shooting deaths of two innocent people by ICE agents who continue to be chronically undertrained and incompetent. Yet the Republicans, under the thumb of Lord Trump, just filled the ICE and Border Patrol coffers with another $70 billion through the Secure America Act. And this is on top of the nearly $100 billion appropriated from 2025's big betrayal bill that is still unspent.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I love the names they come with up with on these because they they don't even, they're not indicative of what they really are. So the 70 billion was supposed to go for body cams for these guys, but none of them had them on. I mean, they just shot these two individuals. It's just crazy. I haven't had I haven't seen one beautiful thing come out of this big, beautiful bill, and uh all I've seen is a lot of health care being taken away and food insecurities.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. And adding 4.1 trillion over, you know, the next six or eight years to the debt. You know, while Republicans are either intentionally making their constituents' lives harder or it's some collective delusion that they have that they are doing good. Either way, I think we're nearing this crossroads where a majority of Americans are realizing their country is being dismantled before their very eyes. And these recent killings by ICE agents are a shocking symbol of that discrush destruction of our civic values and the rule of law. The fact that these agents are not adequately trained on traffic stops is compounded by the additional factors. You know, they approach them in unmarked vehicles, they don't identify themselves, and they are typically masked with no body cameras, as you mentioned. So it's not too hard to figure out why their victims are scared, confused, and may try to flee.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and then they do things that any trained law enforcement agent will tell you that they never do, and they don't fire randomly into moving vehicles. They don't stand in front of cars because these things increase the likelihood of injury or death. Neither of these victims were the actual targets they were looking for. Both were legally here, and neither of them were the intended targets. And this is what happens when you funnel billions of dollars into an authoritarian-led secret police force with individual financial incentives. It's just, it's terrible.
SPEAKER_00The worst you think could happen happens. It's really sad to see in this daily barrage of insanity takes our eye off the corruption and self-dealing of the entire Trump ecosphere. You know what? If you don't like this, vote.
SPEAKER_01And now we have Trump who is desperately trying to continue to manipulate the midterm elections because he knows they're going to lose. But I think rational people understand that this election-denying scheme of his that he's got going on, again, that he's never let up on, is just not true. And you know, you think about it, do you do you really think that the guy who called the Georgia Secretary of State and said, Hey, I need you to fund me 11,780 votes? Right? And this guy's the guy who's gonna fight corruption?
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_01But it was even more entertaining to me is that of all three elections this man's been part of, he's saying that the one that was clearly fraudulent was the one that his administration presided over. So if that's true, if it isn't. If it's true, he's just admitting it how woefully incompetent he is. So yeah.
SPEAKER_00Wow, that's you know, that's a great point. I keep going back to, you know, 2024. I've been looking back where he was putting all this election interference, you know, mechanisms into place and everything. But what happened? Well, he won the 2024 election, and all of a sudden all that, you know, disputes about the elections and denialism went away. Why? Because Trump won. You know, there's in my mind, there's no proof needed, no more proof needed than that. You know, the election is rigged if he loses, it's secure if he wins. He's like, he's like the kid in grade school who was the last one picked for kickball at recess. No one wanted the whiny brat who disputed every call against him on their team. It just saps the morale of everyone else playing. Trump is the guy who always ruins the game for everyone else.
SPEAKER_01And speaking of guys who always ruins the game for someone else.
SPEAKER_00There's somebody else.
SPEAKER_01We got a lot of them. But let's talk about let's talk about Secretary of Defense Pete Hagsuth because he's making headlines again.
SPEAKER_00One of my favorites. Goody.
SPEAKER_01Oh gosh. You know, so this this week he again blocked the promotions of seven senior Navy officials who were women or people of color. So he's been doing this since he's taken the position, you know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you know, I heard about this, and it's it's a highly unusual move. I mean, that is for anyone other than Pete, you know, who's the poster child for insecure toxic males. But this move means that for the first time in more than a decade, no female active duty naval officers are likely to be promoted to admiral this year. I mean, it's disgusting.
SPEAKER_01And then something else that insecure toxic males would do would require, yes, wait, how about how about we make all male military personnel aged 30 and older undergo testosterone deficiency testing, right? So he said we can't do flu vaccinations because that's a violation of everyone's rights, you know, and that led to this big outbreak. But he wants you to get tested for testosterone and then administer you gender-affirming care of testosterone treatments. So, Pete, welcome to the gender-affirming care. Yes.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, wait. Hypocrisy? You know, no way. You know, and and taking testosterone for non-medical reasons like artificial muscle enhancement without a doctor's prescription, it's number one, strictly prohibited in the military. And doctors warn that it's dangerous. It's not for everyone. It can make young men infertile along with other potential side effects, you know. So once again, this administration does not care about the science or medicine behind decisions like this. They only care about the culture war they are promoting.
SPEAKER_01But I did like what Democratic Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illinois did. If you don't know her, she's a war veteran. She flipped the script, and she's requesting that uh female troops would be able to be evaluated for estrogen-based therapy as they enter perimenopause.
SPEAKER_00I love Tammy. She is a true American hero. Selfless sacrifice Pete can only dream of, but doesn't have the real cojones to actually achieve, you know, and maybe that cojones problem, you know, could be testosterone related, I'm not sure. But hey, Natalie, you know how they say birds of feather flock together? Well, in 2020, good old Pete settled a sexual assault accusation for $50,000. And guess what Trump did this week? He finally shelled out the $5.6 million he owed to writer E. Gene Carroll for his own sexual abuse that he was convicted of in a 2023 trial. Do you see the pattern here? And then Pete and Dear Leader are not the only ones in this administration or the larger Trump ecosphere that have a history of abusing women. Yeah, I continue to be baffled at anyone who openly supports this disgusting administration, and we haven't even touched on the continued cover-up of the Epstein files.
SPEAKER_01No, that kind of went away with all of the other fires that he's around the country. But this week, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche stood before the Senate Judiciary Committee during his confirmation hearing, and several of Epstein's victims were in attendance as Blanche defended his handling of the Epstein files. Then in this brazen act of ignorance in front of all of these women, he said that there was no evidence that Epstein trafficked women to other men, but that doesn't mean that it didn't happen. And if there's anybody out there, victim or elsewhere, that has information, he begged them to come forward. I'm like, Todd, they're literally standing behind you.
SPEAKER_00Jeez, what oh my God. I mean, you can't make this up. Well, but hang one more. And to bring it back home to Kentucky, we have proof of life from Mitch McConnell. And we are happy that Senator's doing well, but that picture, that was creepy, okay? Something just doesn't seem right, you know. Once again, yeah, once again, transparency is the issue here.
SPEAKER_01Yes, it is. And we're gonna try to be transparent about being 10 minutes or less, but it is hard, people. Until next time, our 10 minutes are over. Until next time, stay curious.
SPEAKER_00Way over.
SPEAKER_01Way over. Keep staying curious, keep those facts in focus and never stop fighting for batteries. Peace out, everyone.
