Apology And Podcast Milestone
Speaker 1Tammy. Did you guys miss us?
unknownGosh.
SpeakerWe owe you a huge apology. Um, we did not mean to ghost our audience. That was so terrible. Yeah. It's all my fault.
Speaker 1You know, it was almost a full pregnancy.
SpeakerIt was almost a full pregnancy. It was like almost full gestation. We're in third trimester for sure. I was I was shocked at how many people uh downloaded and like thank you so much.
Speaker 1Absolutely. Yeah, we hit over 500 guys. That's exciting.
SpeakerYes, I love that. We're over here at high five. And then we were like, we're out. Where'd she go? I know. I know. To all the clients that texted, we're back. So stay tuned. We're we're back on track because it's gonna be good.
Speaker 1And all the others out there, even outside of clients. Like I know um certain practitioners that have listened. Like, thank you guys so much. Thank you. You know, your support is awesome. But then also, hey, thinking of you. Are you still doing your podcast? Totally. Where why, Missy?
SpeakerWhat have you been up to? What have you been up to tell me? Give me an update. Give me an update.
Speaker 1Well, let's see. Not that I don't talk to you every day. I know. We still talk, guys. I know that you missed us, but um, Tammy and I are still very much in contact daily and frequently.
Misty’s Birth Work And Wedding News
Speaker 1Um, well gosh, you know, like birth work has been super busy. Um, did what 41? I think I did 41 births last year, 2025. And I know you were up there too. Yeah. So definitely staying busy with birth. Um, that's been great and fantastic. Lots and lots of repeat clients last year.
SpeakerIsn't that fun?
Speaker 1I think I think it's like 30% of my clients.
SpeakerYeah, I would say about the same.
Speaker 1So that has been so cool. So the best compliment. Yeah, it's the best compliment ever. Um, so personally, um, family is great. Um, my oldest is getting married. So, guess what, guys?
SpeakerIt's a girl. Yeah, from mom, boy, mom to you're gonna finally have a daughter. I know it only took almost 27 years of trying, guys.
Speaker 1That's and this one comes fully potty trained. Um, yeah, she comes just like with all the manners, like yeah, no drama. Yeah, I love her. She's incredible. Um yeah, she's such a blessing to our family.
SpeakerUm that's gonna be so fun. What when are they getting married, Misty? August 7th of this year. Okay. So beautiful in Colorado.
Speaker 1Yep, in Morrison. So um, for those of you who are local in Colorado, um, Morrison is only about 10-15 minutes from our house by Red Rocks.
SpeakerBeautiful, beautiful.
Speaker 1Um so yeah, just don't come and you know, search us out.
SpeakerDon't crash the wedding.
Speaker 1But yeah, so that would be what's going on, like personally, that would be our biggest um our biggest life update for our family.
SpeakerSo you're taking, I'm sure you're uh blocking out for birth and birth work.
Speaker 1Oh yeah. So I have probably guys, like one of the biggest um gaps of time coming up than I've ever done in my dual career.
SpeakerWow.
Speaker 1Um so my last client is due June 9th. Okay. And I don't have a client due till August 18th.
SpeakerAmazing. Um that's the gap.
Speaker 1So I have a very You're not gonna know what to do with yours.
SpeakerI know you're gonna go stalk people at the hospital here, buddy. I'm at a birth, I'm at a birth and all of a sudden there's Misty behind me. Uh, what are you doing here?
Speaker 1Which guys, I'm telling you, the um That's funny. You know, I will say that like in the big gaps that I have had, like, shoot, my last birth I think was March 28th, and here we are. Today we're recording it as April 13th is the date of this recording. Um I haven't had a birth since then. Oh wow. And I'm like, okay, guys, I need to go to a birth.
SpeakerI need to go to a birth. That is so funny. You're you're so good at you're so good at that. Like, constant you're statistically people ask me all the time, like, when was your last birth? When was I was like, uh I don't I don't know. I I do know. But I have to look at the biggest. That's also part of my life update.
Speaker 1It's definitely um, yeah, the while the the gaps, my point of that is like the gaps are great, but yeah, that's how you know You love your what you're doing. You love what you're doing, and you know that this job is so good when you like crave, like as tired as you get, believe me. We get tired.
SpeakerUm like when is my next one?
Speaker 1Right, when's the next birth? Like, I can't wait to get back into the birthroom. So, yeah, yes, while I'm excited, I'm gonna have this large break. I might be stalking slightly. Tammy, Lauren, like, hey guys, do you guys need help? Yeah, no, we always need help, man. Yeah. We always need help. Um so yeah, that's that's kind of my
Tammy’s Family Update And Night Doula Work
Speaker 1update.
SpeakerWhat about you guys? Uh we uh we are, you know, I think I said on our our last episodes that I'm officially an update nester, although our oldest is working uh and living at home, but he's getting ready to he's gearing up to do some traveling, um, which is awesome. Oh, to be 22 again, right? I always joke, I want to be my kids. Like I would love to be my kids. I want to be your child. You want to be my child? I would love to be your child. Come on, I would love it. Um, and then our youngest will be finishing her sophomore year, um, and she's in college in California. So she'll be she but she didn't come home for spring break this year, which was wild. I we I'm like, uh kind of jozing for you. That that's the longest I've not been with my kids, so that that was weird. Um and then um my I mean my work is the same, although I've shifted to doing a lot more postpartum um night work, which is really cool, and being able to support mommies um that need help at night and families, which is I love it. I know you think I'm crazy, but um, I do call her the robot guys.
Speaker 1I don't know her and Lauren. Lauren's also a robot too. I'm like, how do you guys do that? Like, I don't yeah, I don't know how to do that.
SpeakerThat's a whole episode. We could talk about my how I do it. Yeah, my gosh, right? But then I also had a we had a huge shift. Um, John, uh, really exciting, took a job with the National Women's Soccer League, which is awesome because that's such a uh an amazing thing for women and girls, and just it's just not in Colorado. But that's okay. I I mean we've done this. This is not our first rodeo. I um we figured out it's the fifth time that he's taken a job with a team, he's a performance coach, uh outside of Colorado, and where I've kind of held down the home for you know, home base and uh kind of done this back and forth. But those jobs just happen so fast, you you just have to roll with it. And they're uh in their season, and um we need a W right now. Like, let's go. So he's he's in Louisville, Kentucky. So like and follow Racing Louisville women's. I follow him.
Speaker 1I follow him.
SpeakerUm they'll play FC Summit in the fall. So um that'll be really funny. You have to tell me when I'll I'll definitely go and check out Johnny. Totally doing that, and then you know, do I'm still dog walking. I I have two clients that I walk dogs for, which is really funny. And um doing my own.
Speaker 1Do you still do the corgis all the time? I do, yeah.
SpeakerOh my gosh, guys.
Speaker 1So I don't know. Did I did we talk about my corgis and on the podcast?
SpeakerSo Misty has two corgis, and I walk two corgies, and they're the same color. Like they're blonde and and black and the red and white, and then the the black, brown, and white, the tri-color.
Speaker 1So I think it's so funny because she'll she'll be like, Look, Misty, it's like walking your dogs. Literally, they're Twinkies, they're Twinkies. Yeah, definitely Twinkies. Yeah, so you do those, yeah, those two dogs, and then you have another dog I walk before.
SpeakerOne of my really a really dear friend of ours um that I've known since I was little, and she's had some health stuff, and so I started walking her dog. She rescued a dog, and so I walk them. But it it's good. I mean, you know, it gets me out, gets me active. Sometimes she gets me active, like she'll message me and hey, I'm gonna go walk.
Speaker 1Come on.
SpeakerSo we'll we'll have our like doula talks and then walk some dogs. And Colorado, I mean, we're spoiled, it's just like sun, sun, and sun and sun.
Speaker 1So the weather this year has great.
SpeakerOkay, good.
Speaker 1It's been great. It's um it makes me a little scared of what's to come for the summer and like water restrictions and whatnot, but you know. That's a whole other podcast. Yeah, you can find a million podcasts about that. We don't have to talk about that.
Creating Mom Community In Denver
SpeakerWell, um, well, we're and we've got a lot of updates as far as like uh our community and our clients. And tell me more, Misty was going on. What's going on? We've been busy with that. So we've been busy work, but we've also been busy trying to create more of a birth doula community uh within the Denver metro area for our clients.
Speaker 1Yeah, so I've had such a like been fun, uh, a vision for years about creating more community um for moms. And while we have some things out there already, I feel like um it's still lacking. Um, and so it what's really cool is we have, you know, we've got all of the clients, so we've got the people there to start this community and kind of get it going. Yes. Um, I do want to emphasize while a lot of these community events like oh yeah, are you know definitely involve our clients, I do want to emphasize this is open to anybody in the community that wants to join. Yes.
SpeakerLike if you are here about it, tell your friends, or if you are a client, pass it on.
Speaker 1Like if you can't go, please forward the information to bring your friend or um even like moms in different um phases of motherhood, too. Because um, so Tammy and I just went to um an event for a book author. Should we give her a shower? Give her a shower. I'll look at it. So get the right information. But anyways, we went to this event because this author just um dropped her new her first book, yeah, new book. But it's um called The Myth of the Perfect Mom. Yeah. The myth of the perfect mom. What's her name? Erin Yeah. Right, ring rare.
SpeakerThere you go. Erin Schlotzen.
Speaker 1Yes. So we went to this event at the Den um social club, and we noticed that there's a lot of moms there, like different phases, like, but primarily like um moms, like young, young moms, younger kids, where Tammy and I are both like, so we're the um senior citizens in the group. Yeah. With with our older children. So, but my point, like with the community, it's open to all phases, phases. So um, I honestly, like Tammy, you're probably one of my only friends. One of the only. I think maybe I've got like one other friend that I talk to regularly that has kids my in my kids' age, or their even like their stage of life. Like I don't have anybody like whose kids are like getting married and things like that. So I would love to find something like that. So hit me up, guys, if um you know of anybody um hosting groups like that. So please come all stages. Um doesn't have to be.
SpeakerI would say, yeah, and I think it's so important. We and they taught they addressed that. I think that was really uh insightful. There were so many practitioners from all different for like facets at that event. But we've we're finding a like these moms, there's so many moms in the Denver Metro area that moved here during COVID for work. They have zero family support. So, you know, and it's really hard when you're a new mom to find mom friends, especially if you're the first one to have a kid, right? Like how many of your clients are like, you know, we have one of our clients that she's our she's like literally become such a close friend.
Speaker 1Oh yeah. She's she's our regular.
SpeakerUm, and it's so lovely because you don't realize like you don't realize what you the saying you don't realize what you um have till it's gone, and you really don't realize what you didn't have until you find it. And these moms really do need somebody to just tell them, hey, this is normal, you are not alone. I think that's the biggest lie, postpartum. Right, we like we talked about in our postpartum episode. But it's just really isolating. So I'm trying to get out and and find that support is really good. And then we decided, you know, as women, just as us for ourselves, we're just like, hey, if no one shows up, these are events we would actually just go to. We would just go to So we had to make sure it was things like we want to do because you know that Mr. sent me that article. Like finding having that women connection and somebody to talk to to vent things to to read that. Can you read that top?
Why Venting Lowers Stress
Speaker 1You you go ahead and find that. But I sent she was referring to something that was sent to me actually by a friend of mine. Um, because I was talking to her about um, you know, how for me personally, even just like talking through something or you know, venting, if you will, um that it makes me feel so much better.
SpeakerYeah.
Speaker 1And it's neurologic scientifically proven to create. And so like the whole thing, like, oh, women, they just like to gossip, they just like to this and that. But there's actually scientific like it's a negative thing when it's not.
SpeakerIt's back to that. Yeah. It says uh when women vent to each other, they literally help lower each other's cortisol levels. And studies reveal that female friendships are nervous system medicine. Oh, a hundred percent.
Speaker 1Tammy is like way better than any, what is it, an SSRI? Yeah, so I have zero side effects. Yeah, but it's no shade on those.
SpeakerI've I've had to use them in the past for things before, so but it releases it releases a hormone that we refer to as the bonding hormone. Yeah, and it can't, I mean, obviously we could we could deep dive like with my buddy uh Huberman about cortisol and its effects on the body, but um it is literally that that bonding hormone it's the calming effect is strongest when interactions involve trusted, close relationships rather than casual or unfamiliar connections.
Speaker 1Oh, a hundred percent. I agree with that completely.
SpeakerUm yeah. So I think that that community bring, you know, our goal this year was to really focus on that. That was one of our top goals as a group to really help these moms that feel so isolated because there's a massive need for it. There's a huge gap.
Speaker 1Well, I just recently had one of our moms that um has come to several of our events.
SpeakerUh-huh.
Speaker 1Um, she told me, she was like, your community events ha saved me through postpartum. Right. Yeah. Because I was in such a like state that I I felt alone. I felt like who do I have? Um, and she is from out of state, so she really doesn't have anybody from here.
SpeakerWow.
Speaker 1So she's like, your community events like saved me in my postpartum. So I was like, this is exactly why we keep doing the events. Even if sometimes we only get a couple people that come. Like or one. Even if there's one. Even if there's one, it's not worth it.
SpeakerIt's still worth it. The
Meetups That Get Moms Out
Speakerfunniest one. So we um one of my favorite ones we do consistently is on the first Friday of every month. We met at a coffee house called the Table Public Coffee House, which is great. If you've never been, where where is it?
Speaker 1It's the table. Table public house, so it's on South Platter. South Platter.
SpeakerYep, yep. Um, but it's awesome, and they have uh uh awesome food. Um they even have you can get cocktails, like they have a full bar. They have much cocktails. Cocktails, yeah. So day or night. Yeah, coffee, they've got oh, their food food truck, the food tomatoes.
Speaker 1Yes, oh yeah, and they have a little sourdough, they have like a little sourdough thing.
SpeakerThey also have a play place for the kids. So if you have an amazing play place, amazing playplace. They do sing-alongs, like they have so many great events. Is that every Tuesday? I think it's on Tuesdays.
Speaker 1We check their website.
SpeakerWe chose not to go on that day because it was so loud. So nuts. Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1It was so nuts and loud.
SpeakerUm, but in saying that, the you know, I love that event particularly because um I feel like there's so many connections moms make. But when we were there last time, one of my clients, I had just had a postpartum meeting with her. Yes. Okay, and I was just really encouraged them as it because it was her second. I said, You, you know, you got a little bit more confidence in your your system. Um, really try and get out out of the house. Just even if it's for one little daily adventure, go into the park, or you know, you'll get more confident with two kids as you do this, you know, especially in the morning. First thing in the morning, feed the baby, go, right? And we were there at that that first Friday, and she walked in and I mean, she's literally two weeks postpartum, and I was like, Oh, you came, and she like she's like, Why are you here? Like, she didn't even come for our event, she didn't even know that for that. And that happened, that happened this last time to Lauren.
Speaker 1No, I'm just yes, because you were at a birth, so you weren't able to be there. But it was one of Lauren's um clients. She's come to multiple of our events too. And she just she showed up with several of her friends. Like just to have like a friend date and whatever. Yeah, so she was like, Oh my gosh. So that was really cool. Like so cool, those are fun. Um I love that. And to the to your point, too, yeah. You were you were saying, like going out, getting out, and like um that it's important to you get to go do those things. Yeah. Um, what I tell moms that are a little hesitant too is let our events be like your first outing. No, it's true.
SpeakerBecause we'll we are so happy to hold your baby. Oh, a hundred percent. We're held you. We're happy to like that. Yeah, sorry.
Speaker 1But yeah, but no, but like we're happy to help, yeah. You know, if you know, helping if it's it's not a your fault, it's not as intimidating. Right, you know, but like if you're fearful of like how is feeding them in public gonna be, like you've got like at least one, two, three, four, like whatever doulas that are there. Other mommies, like some of our other moms, they're like, Hey girl, I got you, let me do this, you know.
SpeakerThey're just at different phases, too.
Speaker 1And I love seeing that, like the conversations between them, like guys. I'm just simple stuff. I need this, I need it. Really simple stuff, too.
SpeakerYeah, like breastfeeding or looking at each other's gear and being like, Oh, did you use that? Did that work? Um, talking about resources. Yeah, I mean, literally, yeah, it's so cool.
Speaker 1So, yes, we've got the coffee. I'm glad that you brought that one up because that one's um, well, we do have one in two days, but this probably won't be dropped before then. So,
Event Calendar And Instagram Details
Speaker 1but um our next event will be the coffee meetup. I think it's what May 1st? Friday, May 1st. Um, and then we've got one for Mother's Day. Yeah, I believe.
SpeakerBut we'll post it on our on our Insta, doula's on call. Yes, so doula's on call. And then Misty, uh, what is your Insta handle?
Speaker 1So it's birth in wellness underscore Misty Stewart. Got it. And then yours is I think just birth Tammy.
unknownYep.
Speaker 1Um so yeah, you can find you can find that on there. You can find our schedules for our meetups. But if you have like questions or whatever about meetups, like you can message us. We are happy to talk.
SpeakerEven if it's last minute, like unless so it's a paid event, like we will do some events where you have to get a ticket or stuff like that.
Speaker 1But most of it Most of them are unpaid and just show up last minute. Um, you know, let us know. Like we try and do be you know, be active, get outside. Like our last one was a walk at you know, up at Waterton Canyon, our next one's a walk at Littleton Museum. So like we try. And do those active things too, but then also alternate it with some fun like coffee shop meetups or just mom events like that. We'll do a Mother's Day. Yeah, right?
SpeakerWhat are we doing for Mother's Day?
Speaker 1Um, we are going to the Edgewater Public Market. Um, my gosh, I wish I had the date right in front of me. It is the Sunday before Mother's Day. That's right. I think it's the second. Oh no. I will look while we're c while we're talking. Um so, anyhow, we're doing it that day, and that one we're doing a later one than we typically do. Yeah, Sunday, May 3rd. Okay.
SpeakerYeah.
Speaker 1Um, but you'll find the dates on that. So you could come to that. Um that's a great place.
SpeakerI don't know if it's right by Slans Lake. Oh, I love it. They have so many options. They have the best um noodle bowl. Like the pho place? The pho place, yeah.
Speaker 1Yeah, it's really good. The pho place is good. I always get the um, I always forget the name of them. They're um those like corn sandwiches. I know I'm fucking a packet, so I won't even try and try and guess that. But you can send in.
SpeakerYeah, so the uh lots of lots of fun things coming up and we really just wanted
Short Update And Next Steps
Speakerto jump back on here. This will be a um a shorter episode just to re-in reintroduce. Um please stay tuned for our next episode.
Speaker 1Yes, so thanks for tuning in for our little update. Um, and then for next episodes, you will see us more frequently, I promise. Yeah. Um, definitely, um we missed you. Yeah, definitely missed missed being on here. I missed having you right next to me and like talking and talking through these things because we get to talk um over the phone and stuff like that. But it's so cool like having you right here and we can reconnect. But thank you guys so much, and we will catch you next time. Yeah, bye.
