Most people haven’t heard of the Mondarra Gas Storage Facility, but it’s quietly keeping Western Australia’s energy secure.

Located 350km north of Perth, this facility stores gas underground with a capacity equivalent to 210 grid-scale batteries. To build that much battery storage would cost over $300 billion.

It plays a critical role during the market shortfalls and is essential for backing up renewables as coal generation retires.
