All Things Wedding Decor
We tackle a listener question about wedding decor decisions, sharing practical tips for creating a cohesive and budget-friendly wedding aesthetic without sacrificing style.
• Start with your venue selection to determine what type of decor will work best
• Choose a theme and color palette early, then delete other Pinterest ideas to avoid second-guessing
• Splurge selectively on pieces you can keep (welcome signs, mirrors) while DIYing others
• Source affordable decor through Facebook Marketplace or from recently married friends
• Remember that sometimes "less is more" – don't overfill your space with unnecessary items
• Allocate your decor budget across different wedding segments (ceremony, reception, etc.)
• Consider the venue's natural beauty and avoid redundant decorations
• Look for decor items that can transition to your home after the wedding

Hey guys, welcome back to another episode of the Daily Buzz. Today, a listener sent in a question about narrowing down ideas for decor. As someone who just got married in September of 2024, I think, when it comes to decor, really finding out your venue first, of course, because is it inside, outside? Sometimes nature can play facts into what kind of decor you get if it's too windy and things like that. Also, when it comes to decor, I really was like, okay, what's my color scheme and what do I want, and base it off that.
Speaker 1:And then also, in spending money on decor, I think, finding pieces that you really want to splurge Like we splurged on our welcome sign because now we have that forever hanging up in our house, but when it came to things like centerpieces, we DIY'd, we went to Sam's Club and made our own centerpieces, which helped save a bunch of money when it came to florals. So, and also just, you know, slowly picking out pieces but at the end making sure it, you know, is all cohesive and looks good, but what do you think about that, kelsey?
Speaker 2:when it comes to decor and narrowing it down, yeah, I think that when you start looking for your decorations, you want to start thinking about, like your theme or your style that you're going for If you're going for something more elegant, something classy, something boho, whatever that might be. Start getting those ideas on Pinterest to narrow them down and then from there, start looking at your color palettes. That way you kind of have an idea of what those colors are going to look like, how they will mash together really well and clean, but then you're not distracted by all of the other things. Another thing I would suggest is, once you've figured out what your theme and your decor is going to look like with that color palette, get rid of everything else in that Pinterest board. Unpin it from your board, because you do not want 17 different ideas and then that one just keeps lingering at you that you're then going to question wait, am I making the right decision? Is that really what I want?
Speaker 2:I love what you said, Grace, about doing your own decor. I think that that's great Work with what you have. Is there anybody recent that you know that just got married? Do you have an aunt that just stores everything you could possibly imagine? So many people that I've spoken with, have had a family member that is, you know, a hoarder, which isn't always a good thing, but in this scenario it you said hey, what do you got? Yeah.
Speaker 1:Or Facebook Marketplace, I think a lot of people I'm not kidding I used, you know we bought the vases for the candles. They're still sitting in my mom's garage, you know go to Facebook marketplace, just like you said. Is there anyone that recently got married? You're trying to maybe save money on decor. A lot of people.
Speaker 1:You know, unfortunately, a lot of the stuff you do buy decor wise and don't really end up having to ever really need again. You know I remember we spent a little bit too much money on table numbers and I don't regret that, but we're probably never going to be able to use them again. But you know it looked great with the ambiance and decor. So if you're trying to save money, I would definitely look at like Facebook marketplace DIYing, because it can get pretty pricey and expensive and I don't.
Speaker 1:I'm sure you've seen some crazy stuff in decor, but I think sometimes I do feel like less is more, though. At weddings Sometimes I think you want so much decor, you want it to like look so fancy, but sometimes it looks clustered. I feel like I've seen weddings sometimes where you try to put like so many pictures of you guys and then there's, you know, like random, you know decor items, and it's just sometimes also too. When we got married at our venue, I felt like the venue spoke for itself, so we didn't really need to spend all this money on decor the basics, of course, but I think also just being keen on that and do you really need it? Or is it just because you saw someone else have that?
Speaker 2:Yeah, but I agree I think that, um, with that budget piece you really need to lock in what your overall decor budget is and then maybe breaking it down into each piece, you know so your welcome details, your ceremony, your cocktail hour, your reception. That way you're able to then divvy up that money between those different areas and so you don't end up spending too much on table numbers, like you said you did, when really you could have used that money elsewhere.
Speaker 1:I know. And two also with DIYing. Like we bought a mirror for our you know table numbers, you know for the seating chart, and then now that mirror lives on my house and now I use it every day. So there's other ways that you can incorporate and use things that you could potentially use again later, and so I think that's the best I love that. I know the best idea when it comes to decor, so that's your daily buzz.
