APD | Normal Hearing, But Can't Process What They Hear? Let's Talk APD
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
- 「Right to Choose」

Your child can hear—but are they truly processing what they hear?
Some children pass a standard hearing test, yet still miss instructions, become easily distracted, or struggle to follow conversations in noisy environments. Are these signs of attention difficulties, language comprehension challenges, or the highly debated condition known as Auditory Processing Disorder (APD)?
In this episode, Chloe speaks with Winnie, a dual-qualified professional who trained in speech pathology in Hong Kong before qualifying as an audiologist in the UK. With expertise across both speech pathology and audiology, Winnie explains the difference between being able to hear sound and being able to process it. She also compares the therapy landscape across the UK NHS, Hong Kong, and Australia.
We also explore the reality of accessing public speech therapy in the UK, including lengthy waiting lists, the so-called “postcode lottery,” and how where a family lives can directly affect whether a child receives support.
