It's difficult to sum up Sanora Babb's life. Raised in poverty, didn't attend school until age eleven, became Valedictorian of her high school class, became a journalist good enough to receive a job offer from the Los Angeles Times in early 1929 but when she arrives to start the job she's turned away due to the sudden stock market crash.
Where does she go from here? It's an interesting journey. One that takes her all over the country, into Mexico and back to Los Angeles to pursue her desire to write a novel about the Dust Bowl migrants and their struggle to find not the American Dream but just a place in this vast country.
Sanora is doing well in her pursuit of collecting information for her novel until...she meets John Steinbeck and her life changes forever - not in a good way. It's a story that will shock and infuriate you.
Join Kit and Sherlock as they unravel the true story of the battle of two authors writing novels about the people ruined by the dust storms and the depression of the 1930s.
