Today’s Reflection: Finding Strength in the Quiet Moments (Dedicated to my grandmother, Elmonia)

Good morning 🌞💛

This morning, I woke up thinking about how weekends and quiet moments still feel heavy for me. My husband’s passing was sudden and unexpected, and even though it’s been almost five years, the loneliness still shows up. I stay busy — maybe too busy sometimes — just to avoid feeling the weight of the quiet.

Some days it’s not tears… just a deep ache.
Other days, it’s a reminder that I’m carrying so much on my shoulders.
And even though people see me as strong, I’m still human. I still have moments where it hurts.

But as I sat with those feelings this morning, something else came to my heart — my grandmother, Elmonia.

She passed from Alzheimer’s and cancer, and we were so close. This month is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, and it feels like the perfect time to honor her.

She was a spiritual counselor to people from all over the country… a woman of deep wisdom, faith, and compassion. Somehow, people always found her — and she always knew how to guide them with love.

This morning, I realized something:

🌿 The same way she poured into others… I find myself doing the same.

Even with my own pain, I still encourage families.
I still give hope.
I still sit with caregivers in their hardest moments.
And when they say, “Thank you, Tara… I needed that,” it reminds me that her legacy lives in me.

I think I inherited that from her — the ability to support others even while healing myself.

So today, as I share this first reflection, I dedicate it to my grandmother Elmonia, whose strength, spirit, and compassion continue to guide me.

And I share it with anyone who needs this reminder:

💛 You can grieve and still give hope.

💛 You can feel lonely and still be a light.
💛 You can miss someone deeply and still show up for others.
💛 You don’t have to be perfect to be a blessing.
💛 Your pain does not disqualify your purpose.

Grief doesn’t follow a timeline.
But neither does grace.

This is the beginning of Grace for Caregivers & Grievers, a series honoring caregivers, grievers, and anyone carrying quiet strength through difficult seasons.

If you’re reading this and you’re hurting, overwhelmed, caregiving, grieving, or just trying to make it through the weekend…

You’re not alone.
I see you.
And I walk this journey with you. 💛🙏
