Welcome to a special Thanksgiving edition of the Hail on Free podcast. I'm Josh, joined by James across London and Lee across the pond in Chicago. And we're gonna start with Lee. How was your Thanksgiving, Lee? How tired are you? How full are you? And how hung over are you?

Because the amount of calories consumed by the average, uh, American or American resident is quite a lot, as you can imagine on Thanksgiving. But it was a great day. I stayed local, uh, enjoyed it with some friends, but it was a bit of a, a bit of a marathon. It wasn't just the, the football, it was the food, the drink, et cetera.

So I stayed in with the dog, the new puppy, and, um, really got into the spirit and cooked apart from cornbread. I think I cooked everything I said I was gonna cook, which is like pumpkin pie and, and green bean casserole and that monstrous dish with marshmallows on top of sweet potato, um, and a Turkey crown and uh, mac and cheese and everything. So that was great. Had a nice, uh, slow. Um, feast of the Evening, watching the games at home, which was nice. Albeit it would nice be nice to be with James out in the bar, but actually really enjoyed watching him, watching the football a bit more actually.'cause sometimes I don't, don't get to see as much of the games as I'd like. And there are some pretty good games, especially the first one, Lee. I.
ledders_1_11-28-2025_080220:Yeah, I enjoyed both of'em actually. Uh, yeah. Packers got one over the lions, didn't they? Which was a, a big game in the north. So the lions actually fall to five losses on the year now, don't they? Which is. Put them in a little bit of a precarious position potentially.'cause there's obviously a lot of good records in the NFC then the cowboys keep, keep rolling and all of a sudden they are back in the conversation. The late game didn't surprise me too much, but the late game, the, the Bengals with Burrow back, also handily beat the Ravens. So some interesting games. But the first tee definitely lived up to the hype. Um, I'm sure the NFL loved kind of the records them teams came in with on the Thanksgiving day, so no doubt we'll hear that the Cowboys Chiefs probably broke all kinds of of records. So we seem to hear that every year, don't we? This is the most watched game, et cetera. But yeah, with those two teams, I'm sure it really, um, I'm sure most of America teamed in for that one.
josh_1_11-28-2025_140219:Yeah, and it was kind of nice to see. Um, well, it's pretty rare that I'm, I'm hoping the Cowboys win games, uh, as a Washington fan. Um, yesterday was, was probably one of those times for the first time in a while, both in terms of my frustration with the Chiefs being kind of. Like a ERA team at this point. Um, the calls they get as, as. We know of the refs, but if you're ever gonna get calls against you, if you're a team like the Chiefs, then playing Dallas on Thanksgiving's probably when it's gonna happen. Right? Um, and obviously it helps our draft position potentially as well to have teams in the division winning. So, um, yeah, a, a bit of sweet one, I guess to some extent, but I actually didn't make it to the end, I must admit. Um, a bit of a food came at this end. I, uh, bowed out late in the third quarter. James is back with us. It still says his network is struggling. Got a different background. Uh, James, come back in. Tell us about how the bar experience was at blood sport and how you enjoyed the games. We'll see how you get on.

Uh, it was very busy in there. Um, the main dish I had was something called garbage plate. Um, just a ton of meat and gravy on some chips, essentially, and a few beers. And obviously that first game is really exciting. There are a few, uh, bets flying around. Uh, Pete was with me who obviously you might recognize the northern man from the, the previous pod, uh, Madrid. Pete was betting on the outcomes of each drive. it's gr in a field goal or a punt or, or a touchdown.

james_1_11-28-2025_140219:I caught a bit of it when I got home. It didn't stay up, stay up too late, but, um, looks like that was a good end to the game as well, and kind of fair play him. They'd beaten, uh, Eagles and Chiefs in a space of four or five days.

ledders_1_11-28-2025_080220:Yeah, I, I, I think the Cowboys are one to watch because like we said with our team, if, um, this is obviously at the start of the season, but if defense can get anywhere to just like average, then that could be really dangerous. And the defense do seem to have, um, improved a little bit. So that would be interesting. And I did want the Cowboys to win as well, which is painful to say. I mean, I kind of didn't, watching them, I don't like to see'em happy. But yeah, considering the opponent and also just to make. Our division a little more interesting down the stretch, and we'll obviously have, not where we want to be, but a little bit of a say in it. So I, I mean, I would love to knock one of them teams out if they're both, um, kind of tightened up at the end there. But yeah, I've gotta say, love that you guys, uh, enjoy the getting to the Thanksgiving spirit. Obviously Josh, you have. Uh, family ties over here, um, all over the place. So I've gotta say, um, my friend made this like crumble dessert thing, which also was like. Um, half cheesecake situation. It was just ridiculously good. So

To be fair, um, I would say, uh, the pumpkin pie made was way better than I thought it would be. Um, so I was very pleased with that. I mean, I did cheat a bit and bought a pie crust that was pre-made, but the filling was all, all my doing and, um, had that with a bit of ice cream to top off the evening and that was excellent watching Dallas.

They are only six and six days, so I'm not ready to kind of count'em out at this point yet. Um, they'd have to win some divisional games and stuff, but who knows? Um, as I wake up this morning and we do mirror the scoreboard, but I'm say in 2017 to the Broncos, I think it'll be a really close game. But we're gonna just find a way to lose again. There you go. But, you know, we've got struggling Vikings in the Twin Cities next week, and potentially Jayden Daniels back. So a win is on the horizon sooner rather than later. But I'm, I'm going Denver Sunday in a tight one.

Um, based on the other teams, uh, and the markets that they're allowed to do their rights in and who's gonna play where and the game in Australia and all this stuff, I think it's pretty likely that we'll play at home in Tottenham next year. So let's just hope it's not, not that one.'cause that could be any, anyone can't it? But yeah, fingers crossed it's, it's London because Australia's the Rams and done some other stuff and it was like, Germany will be this team or whatever. So fingers crossed that, um, it'll be London next year. That's exciting actually. And surprising the news came out that quick, wasn't it? So that's good. Um. Yeah. Quick one. Well, a couple of things. I know we're running short time here, so firstly, this is a chance for us maybe to, to get into broader segments of the football in podcast world because when you're a three and eight football team, you're just naturally gonna talk a bit more around the league, right? So. You know our friend over there at, what is it, Brett Chat Sports, the Patriots fan. Put us out there man.'cause we're gonna be talking about a lot of playoff stuff and you know, around the league stuff. So that's exciting. But I just wanted to mention, I think we'd be remiss without mentioning that when you are this much as a team, that there's a lot of blame to go round and you know, we've, we'll talk all about it in the off season injuries, et cetera, but Adam Pete's stuck, is falling a little bit this season, naturally. We've sinned some other things. Right. And Emmanuel Forbes Jr. We have to talk about this very quickly. So what he's doing on the Rams after being cut for nothing from Washington is, is nothing short of remarkable. I don't think any of us lost any sleep when that, when that happened, um, a Rivera pick. But it does go to show that there. Can potentially be with talent that are hard to evaluate on very poor teams with poor coaching. So I think there's blame all around there. A lot of blame from the last regime that gave him no confidence, didn't know how to play him, and maybe some blame from Quinn Witt and Peter's this time he would very quick to shame the door. And then you see some other things, uh, around the league, don't you, with Gonzales nailing field goals with similar issues at kicker, all that kind of stuff. So. There's gonna be a lot of off season chatter about some of these decisions I feel.
