Mona:

Ever feel like nutrition advice for multiple sclerosis is either too scientific to understand or too good to be true? Same. Welcome to Ms. Bites where we find that sweet spot between evidence and real life when it comes to eating with multiple sclerosis. I am Mona, your host, a registered dietician, MS. Certified specialist, and someone who's been living with Ms. Myself since 2008. I get it. I know what it feels like to receive that diagnosis. It feels like a bomb blowing up in your life and you're left feeling anxious about what it means for, you know, everything. I know how it feels when MS shows up uninvited in ways that disrupt plans, big and small. Small plans like having the energy to go to lunch with friends and big plans that involve airline tickets and a payday. I know how exhausting it feels when every single day feels like a different new normal. It's almost as if normal is a perpetually moving target. I know this both as someone living with multiple sclerosis and as a registered dietician who specializes in MS. Over the past 10 years of helping people with MS. Navigate the confusing, conflicting, and sometimes outright risky advice about nutrition and ms. I'm constantly struck. By how complicated the wellness industry has made the most fundamental human need, which is to eat. I read somewhere that fear sells until you stop buying it. That is Right now the loudest voices discussing nutrition and MS are the ones who seem to promote unconventional nutrition modalities using scare tactics and false hope While the conventional perspective has been notably absent from the conversation until now, that is I created this podcast to unapologetically be that voice and hopefully broaden the conversation around what it means to eat well with multiple sclerosis, Each episode will incorporate context, clarity, and nuance. Rather than use fear-based language to suggest that you might be doing something wrong or suggest that any specific food, diet or supplement regimen will be able to heal, beat or reverse Ms. The uncomfortable truth is that MS is a complex disease with a poorly understood etiology. The exact cause remains unknown, and as of the time of this recording, there is no known cure. I understand that many people with MS are curious about the MS diets regimens, and protocols and other alternative modalities. Which is why I approach these topics with compassionate skepticism, honoring your curiosity, while helping you to distinguish reliable information from misinformation and science from pseudoscience and wellness. Woo, on the internet. On the Ms. Bites podcast. Together we will explore the science of nutrition, its connection to ms, the role of nutrition in managing those unpredictable MS symptoms, as well as our overall health, which if you read the research, it turns out overall health is a pretty important thing for folks with ms. I will discuss a wide variety of nutrition topics, bust a few myths, answer some frequently asked questions, as well as share some practical tips to help you eat well without the fear that you're doing it all wrong. My mission with this podcast is to bring you unbiased, engaging conversations about nutrition and multiple sclerosis.
