Right, we're today with Win Zaw who's our Golfasian Manager in Cambodia. Welcome to the podcast. I think it would be fair to say when everyone is talking about Cambodia now. You've obviously in the last few years seen a lot of new golf courses open; this must have helped the impression of playing golf in Cambodia.

Win Zaw: 00:37:20

Indeed. We have very good international standards like Vattanac now which has the two courses, One is coming up with Chhun On and that is definitely the golf destination to come aboard here.

Mike Bridge (Golfasian): 00:52:18

Yeah, A lot of people in the past would have gone to Angkor Wat and Siem Reap and played the two golf courses there, which is a Nick Faldo course. I believe.

Win Zaw: 01:03:22

Correct. Angkor Golf Resort and Phokeethra Country Club.Right now we have four very good ones. it's an existing one called Garden City Golf Club which is more mature …

Mike Bridge (Golfasian): 01:17:18

IMG? ... I think

Win Zaw: 01:18:22

Yes, IMG and then the new one called Chhun On which needs time to get more mature kinds of trees and so on.

Mike Bridge (Golfasian): 01:27:07

and that's a Brian Curley.

Win Zaw: 01:28:23

Exactly. and then, 2 Nick Faldo courses that were already helping us to promote Phnom Penh as a golf destination.

Mike Bridge (Golfasian): 01:37:18

Would you say Vattanac, which is the Nick Faldo course, I think is 36 holes right?

Win Zaw: 01:42:05

36 holes

Mike Bridge (Golfasian): 01:43:01

but it is very different because of its cultural aspect as well perhaps you could explain why it's so interesting playing there?

Win Zaw: 01:52:21

Yes uh. Vattanac, of course as an international standard by Nick Faldo is already good enough. But On top of that, It reflects Cambodian culture and history; the monuments are there, Angkor Wat is duplicated there, Bayon Face is there ...

Mike Bridge (Golfasian): 02:10:13

It's like a Kodak moment on the golf course. You're gonna get out and take a picture.

Win Zaw: 02:14:19

Exactly.

Mike Bridge (Golfasian): 02:15:08

because on the 18th hole, there's a life size Khmer Monument.

Win Zaw: 02:20:19

Correct.

Mike Bridge (Golfasian): 02:22:01

Now if I'm going to book a holiday and I don't necessarily want to play golf every day. There are quite a lot of our clients who are keen to go on cruises. You can go between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap on the Mekong River.

Win Zaw: 02:38:29

Correct. so we are in a line on the Mekong River. Yes, we connect between Vietnam and Cambodia, so the cruise comes all the way from Vietnam. We can come from Saigon to Phnom Penh, or from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap or vice versa.

Mike Bridge (Golfasian): 02:58:27

Right, and is it very difficult to get tea times at the moment in the popular golf courses or can Golfasian still get the best tea times or can golf Asian still get the best tea times?

Win Zaw: 03:09:23

We do have the best tea time. We have very good cooperation, I mean relationship with all the golf courses and tea times is ... , I mean. Cambodia is not as popular as other destinations yet where we are just starting right so people start knowing that one, so if you come to Cambodia by now. probably someday you own the courses, lol.

Mike Bridge (Golfasian): 03:29:17

Really? but it is getting much more popular you had a big group last week, didn't you?

Win Zaw: 03:35:07

We have over 50 people playing six rounds of golf course staying longer in Phnom Penh. and doing other activities like cruise on the Mekong River for dinner, going to the Sky Bar on 48th floors, and having overlooking Phnom Penh, and yeah we do have quite a number of activities. It can be added on top of the golf.

Mike Bridge (Golfasian): 04:01:03

So there you go, everyone. Cambodia, watch out! This is going to be the next destination

Win Zaw: 04:06:14

Thank you.
