00:00:46.320 In the midst of all of this darkness and blackness and expanse of emptiness was one small blue dot, no larger than the head of a pen, essentially one pixel in the whole picture. miles away from the sun, was a picture of an earth in which we are all on, in which all of our lives are connected in some way, telling us a story that this world is part of a universe immensely chapter, Paul reaches back to the first moments of creation, looks at the miracle of the new birth, and lifts our eyes to the day when God will make all things new. 00:03:23.520 --> 00:03:30.639 And like I said, he's not giving us three separate ideas, but showing us one story, God's story. 00:03:30.879 --> 00:03:37.039 It moves from the first light of Genesis to the wonder of renewal at the end God who made all things new in Christ, and the God who will bring a new heavens and a new earth in the coming day. 00:04:03.039 --> 00:04:05.439 In verse 6, we see the first movement. 00:04:05.919 --> 00:04:13.599 There it is in verse 6 it says, For God who said, Let light shine out of darkness. 00:04:14.240 --> 00:04:27.279 Paul reaches back to the very first moments of Scripture, inviting us to remember, to remember a universe that hasn't yet taken shape, to remember that it was only marked by darkness and the deep. 00:04:27.519 --> 00:04:30.959 It was without form, without sound, without theological reminder, but he's using it to ground our confidence in the character of God and his power. 00:05:30.879 --> 00:05:41.279 Because the God we've worshipped and the God we will continue to worship, not only tonight, but all of our days as believers, is a God who's not limited by the things that he finds. 00:05:41.680 --> 00:05:47.120 He's a God who's not constrained by the things that Paul moves in that same verse to give us the second movement of these three great movements, from creation at the beginning to new creation in Christ. 00:07:07.600 --> 00:07:22.000 In verse 6, again, for the God who said, Let light shine out of darkness, has shone in our hearts to give the light to the knowledge of God's glory in the face of Jesus Christ. 00:07:22.720 --> 00:07:30.240 The same God perplexed by the circumstances that he didn't choose to be a part of, and feeling the weight of burdens that were beyond his strength to carry. 00:09:59.519 --> 00:10:16.960 And he's saying to them, the same God who spoke life into your heart through Jesus Christ is the same God who can speak life and strength and help in the midst of your lowest, weakest moments. 00:10:18.879 --> 00:10:21.519 into the next are statements that lift us from the beginning to the present day of new creation in Christ, on to the wonderful end of the new heavens and the new earth. 00:13:51.679 --> 00:13:54.159 This light, momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory. 00:14:12.000 --> 00:14:18.240 In verse 18, the things that are unseen are eternal. 00:14:20.000 --> 00:14:26.159 Paul began earlier in this chapter with creation, with God speaking light out of darkness. 00:14:26.399 --> 00:14:32.559 He moved into new creation, of Christ being the light that shines within our hearts. 00:14:32.799 --> 00:14:42.080 And now he talks about that final new heaven and new earth of eternity, which will again be God raising light. 00:14:42.879 --> 00:14:49.440 And he reminds us that this creation with the word, who brings new life into dead hearts by speaking a word of life, and who will look upon all of us as his children and usher us immediately into the wonder of a new heaven and a
