00:05:34.240 We think of when people are forcibly kidnapped from their homeland and conscripted to be forced laborers for others for generations. 00:05:34.959 --> 00:05:38.480 And the Bible explicitly Greco-Roman world, there could be a lot of reasons why someone might be a slave. 00:05:51.839 --> 00:05:59.120 You might have lost in war and said, please spare our lives, don't take out our civilization, we'll become your slaves. 00:05:59.360 --> 00:06:03.439 Sometimes people went into debt and they couldn't pay off their debt. 00:06:03.600 --> 00:06:05.519 And you can't just file bankruptcy. 00:06:05.680 --> 00:06:09.920 So at times they would go into slavery to help pay off their debt. 00:06:10.160 --> 00:06:12.319 Slaves had varying responsibilities. 00:06:12.480 --> 00:06:18.160 Some represented their masters in business affairs, some were tutors to their master's children. 00:06:19.600 --> 00:06:24.639 Now, I'm not suggesting slaves in this time period had it easy. 00:06:24.879 --> 00:06:46.879 Whether your masters were cruel or kind, regardless of whether your responsibilities were economic or agricultural or domestic, even though it was sometimes temporary rather than generational, sometimes former slaves could vote, no matter what the circumstances, at the end of the day, if even for a period of time you were owned by someone else. 00:06:47.040 --> 00:06:50.959 And that's why the word slave is used for most of your Bibles. 00:06:51.680 --> 00:07:02.639 Paul's not endorsing the slavery practices of the American colonies, and he's Titus, but they're writing and sharing with believers who found themselves in a position of slavery, and they're telling them this is what you need to do in the position in which you find yourself. she was looking after the tax dollars so that they could become her own. 00:11:17.600 --> 00:11:27.200 Over the course of years, she was siphoning money away from the city bank role into her own when we come to the Lord Jesus Christ, he's a master that couldn't be any more loving, any more gracious, any more diligent to want our good. 00:34:14.000 --> 00:34:25.199 And because Christ is our
