Welcome to the Drive-in Movie Podcast. Now playing the Master of the Universe power ballad in what I assume is still Alabasta. We just finished Alabasta. Really? Yeah. We actually were done with Alabasta. I finished one. I have I finished episode 130 this morning. Oh, thank God. Okay. We're done with Alabasta. So, in the by the way, this is the podcast where Barracon and I go watch a blockbuster movie in theaters. And then immediately come to the car and talk about it. You know what? This is supposed to reminisce that iconic conversation you usually have with your friends after watching a movie. Right. You and your friend just saw like a brand new movie in theaters, and then you uh walk out of the theaters and then on the sidewalk, you guys are like looking at each other like, bro. Do you remember that feeling you had when you walked out of Spider-Man No Way Home? You just saw all three Spider-Man on the big screen together, and then you walked out of the theater, and everybody's just gathered outside the theater. Their minds are blown, they're talking, spoilers are flying around. What's he gonna do? Zay doesn't remember, oh my gosh. That's what this podcast is. Right. That's what this podcast captures. Yeah. So we watched Power Ballad and Masters of the Universe. Right. And we're also doing a one-piece uh watch through in case you didn't know this. A little bit of Hollywood, yeah. All that fun stuff. Bearcon, how you been? I've been good, man. I've been good. The next couple weeks might be a little bit different for us because Bearcon's about to be a dad. Yeah, I'm kind of like, I'm actually nervous filming because like what if we're filming and then Allison's like, I'm having if this podcast episode like randomly cuts out, like no matter what, Michael, this episode will release. We're posting this, yeah. But like if it cuts out randomly, yeah, it's because I had a baby. Yeah, like literally due dates in two weeks. We're supposed to be seeing Disclosure Day and Toy Story 5 next week. Yeah, we have three days where we watch Disclosure Day break Toy Story 5. Yeah. The baby is not allowed to come out until after I've seen Toy Story 5. Yeah. But at any point during that, you could get a phone call that's like, you need to go to the hospital right now, it's happening. Yeah. Um we were at we were we were watching Masters of the Universe. Yeah. We're watching Masters of the Universe, and to our right, we were sitting next to friend of the podcast 3C Chris, 3C Phil. Chris. And I turned to Chris, I give I look him straight in the eye and I said, Okay, I just want you to know if my phone goes off at any point, it means I'm having a baby. Like Allison knows she's the only person in my phone to that can make my ringer go off. And if it goes off, she knows to only text me if it's baby time. And Chris has a baby, so he was like, aye. He's like, aye. But like, I swear, not even a fraction of a second went by. We're still having we still have eye contact, and you just hear ding, and Chris just immediately starts sweating. He's like, oh my god. Wouldn't that be crazy if it happened right then? Like I know that. But it was possible. And I was like, I immediately was like, I haven't told her the movie has started yet. It's after I tell her the movie started. That's when she can stop texting me. Where it's like, you can only text me if you're having a baby. Yeah, yeah. But uh, we probably won't be reviewing Supergirl just by the nature of it. Unless you guys want a Michael episode, like Michael can drop an episode, so yeah, drop a Michael episode just to like you are still expected to go watch Supergirl when it releases. Okay. You have to support the movie theater industry and the superhero industry. Yeah, and opening weekend box office matters. Yeah. But like I can't even to be fair, Warren Bros asked me, they're like, Do you want like uh a Fandago like gift card to watch Supergirl? Like, I know you're like, you can't go to any events because like I know a lot of people watched Supergirl yesterday and the premiere, and Warren Bros knows it's baby time, they're like, Do you want like do you want us to send you a gift card so you can watch it at least? And I was like, no, because I don't know what I'm gonna be able to watch. Wow, you turn down free money though? A free Fandago gift. Like they were gonna send you a gift card. Yeah, but like also out of principle, every time I get sent a Fandago gift card, I give it away for free. Oh. Out of principle. Out of principle. Yeah. I see a lot of movies for free, and I'm like, I could spread the love. Okay, okay. That makes sense. Yeah. Yeah. I actually am really looking forward to Supergirl. So I I I don't know if I'm gonna make an episode about it, but I will definitely see it because just based on what we saw at Cinemacon, it looks amazing. I think it looks really good. And it I've heard that it's exactly like the comic book for the most part. It's like at least 75% like the comic book.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And that's a great thing. When they make film adaptations that people say are actually true to the source material, legendary.

SPEAKER_00

Legendary.

SPEAKER_01

Of course, like it immediately can't be 100% because Lobos, Jason Momoa, is in it. Uh, and he's not in the comic. He's not? No. Why'd they choose Lobo as the uh as the villain then? He's not the villain. Wait, what? Lobo's not the villain? No. Have you not seen it? You just said you just said Supergirl looks really good. Have you not seen a trailer for Supergirl? I saw the seven-minute footage. I saw the first trailer that they released, and then I saw the seven-minute footage that they showed us at Cinemacon. Neither of which contained Jason Momoa.

SPEAKER_00

Jason Momoa, yeah. There was like a sort of thing. He was in the trailer.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. And you didn't notice that he was fighting with Supergirl? I it looked like he shot a rocket at Supergirl, from what I remember. Uh we'll see. We'll see. But no, he's not the villain of Supergirl. Okay. Or maybe I'm thinking of maybe I'm thinking of a different movie he was a villain in. Maybe I'm thinking of like the Mad Max trailer too. Was he the villain of Mad Max? Uh the the the newer Mad Max one. The the um Fury Road or something. Fury Road, okay. Yeah. I might be mixing up that trailer too in there. But um I don't I just assume that Lobo was gonna be a villain. Is Lobo a bad guy in the comics? I actually don't know that much about Lobo. Like, I'm not gonna pretend to be like I know everything about him. I just know he's not the villain of Wono Tomorrow. Okay. I actually do kind of like that when I go into a movie, I don't know everything that's gonna happen. If I'm being 100% honest with you, something that this podcast has kind of ruined for you. I I don't want to be super negative about it, but something that I used to love doing that I can't do anymore is going into a movie knowing almost nothing about it. Like not having seen any of the trailers, not knowing the entire cast of the movie, not knowing what the plot is like probably going to be about, you know? I mean, I think you can still do it. Uh-huh. How much do you know about Toy Story 5? Okay, you know, good. How much do you know about Spider-Man today? Um, probably okay, probably not as much. Okay, well, there you go. Don't watch if they release a new trailer, no, if they release a new trailer for Spider-Man. You wouldn't want to talk about it on here? No. Interesting. We could talk about we could talk about what we already know. But like, no. Okay. No. We don't need to. It's a month and a half away. Why do we need to We're good. Right. We're good. You know what? And I'm gonna have a baby. I'm gonna have a baby. There's not gonna be time to talk about it. I knew I know that Hulk is in it, though. I do know that already. Um I do know, well, based on like the the um the poster that we saw at Cinemacon, we know that what's his name? Boomerang? Boomerang's Boomerang's gonna be in it. Um we know that like the the foot soldier. I can tell you, I don't think we know who the actual villain of Brady Day is. Okay. So there's theories that the human spider is gonna be The Man Spider. The man spider is gonna be uh in the human spider was Toad Maguire Maguire's wrestling wrestling game. Yeah. But never actually officially because the guy was like, that's stupid. Spider-Man! Like I went I went into Thor Love and Thunder. I didn't know Christian Bale was in it. Do you think that that wrestler guy in Toad Maguire Spider-Man Universe is like, guys, Peter Parker Spider-Man? Because he's like, I literally gave him the name Spider-Man. Like, I literally named this guy Spider-Man, he wanted to be the human spider, and then all of a sudden, Spider-Man is saving New York City. Like, come on, guys. That's so true. That guy could easily connect the dots. That wrestling department has all has all the info. They could have made so much money with the Daily Bugle. And they can't really ignore it because Spider-Man's front page news like all the time. So that guy is. They gave Spider-Man the cage the city. The guy's like, unless he was on so much drugs that they're like, I don't remember. But even then, it's like, how would you forget the guy who was like clinging to the side of the cage? And like taxes exist in New York City, so they had to have like his social security. It couldn't have been disagony. Payment info. Unless it was under the table. No, it really wasn't. I mean, they kind of like, he went to an office. I mean, it could have been under the table, you're right. But also, like, the guy was like, the guy was like, you could have stopped him. Like, I know you could have stopped him. It does kind of seem like a glaring plot hole now that you mention it. No one's has anyone ever talked about this? But you know what? In Spider-Man 2, like a trainful of people saw him without his mask on and then all collectively decided. They didn't know his name. Peter Parker didn't go like, before you guys beat me up, my name's Peter Parker. Yeah, but I think that there might be a lot of New Yorkers that are like, we actually don't want people to find out who this guy is. Maybe. Because we recognize that he is helping out. But do we think wrestler, the wrestling community who already scam who already f scammed and committed fraud would actually care? You're telling me a James Jonah Jameson was like, I'll give you a million dollars to tell me who the identity of Spider-Man is, they wouldn't take it. What I'm saying is that they scammed a teenage boy. Those are not surface level characters, it turns out. Those are New Yorkers first, good citizens second, and then even the citizens in New York who like saw Peter Parker's face, it's not like they could tell anyone who his identity was anyway, because they didn't know Peter Parker was Spider-Man. They didn't know his name was Peter Parker. Yeah, but I don't the likelihood that you would see run into the same stranger twice in York City has to be pretty low. But if that happened like now, someone would go on TikTok and be like, yo, I just saw Spider-Man without his mask on. TikTok even here's what he looked like. And then someone would be like, oh, you mean this guy? I personally think Peter Parker would have been fired. Immediately. From the Daily Bugle. Yeah, if I if Peter Parker tried to turn in photos in 2026 of Spider-Man, the like the types of photos he gets of Spider-Man, he immediately would be fired. He immediately would be canceled and accused of using AI. I was about to say that it'd be AI generated. Yeah. The guy would be like, no, this is AI. And Peter Parker would be like, no, it's not. And he's like, James, Joan Jameson would be like, no, it's either AI or you're Spider-Man. Right. You're telling me you got a picture from this. Like Spider-Man is mid-swing and you're taking the picture from in front of him, mid-air. Yeah. How are you how are you doing this? How are you taking it? The New York City skyline is below Spider-Man. Yes. And you are taking a picture from five degrees above him. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah, clearly, one of two things has to be happening there. Yes. But none of this is in Spider-Man Bird today, though. So you're good. Good. You're good. A movie you did not know anything about really power ballad. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I did I did know that Nick Jonas was going to be in it. And Paul Rudd. Well, yeah, I knew uh Nick Jonas and Paul Rudd were gonna be in it. Nick Jonas, though, to me was like is the more surprising casting choice. Why he acts? He's been acting for a long time. He's been on Broadway, he's done multiple films. He's been on Broadway many times. But what other films has he done? Uh he's in the Jumanji films. Jumanji? Yeah. Oh yeah, he was in Jumanji. Yeah. Oh yeah. But Paul Rudd just strikes me more as like an actor and a movie star. Like every time I see Nick Jonas, I'm just thinking, you're a rock star. He was in the movie with Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley, where their like thoughts I think were could be like heard and they had this like weird. The movie did not do well. Okay. It was based off book. But he was in that movie. I feel you know, like a lot of times when musicians try to do movies, a lot of times it doesn't go well. He starred in Jonas LA and Jonas. Yeah, but the Jonas stuff, the Jonas stuff. He made a cameo appearance in Hannah, Montana. Like, I think the Disney stuff is a little bit different. Still acting. You know what I mean? I argue Nick Jonas per No, I'm not gonna say that. I was gonna say Nick Jonas is a better actor than singer, but that's ridiculous. That would be stupid. But he is a performance. He is definitely a performer. Right. I thought he did pretty good. How many, how many Michaels would you give Power Bells? Out of ten Michaels, I think I'm giving it six. I think I think I think six and a half Michaels. It wasn't a bad movie. It was good, it was pretty baseline predictable. Yeah. It played the same song over and over again, but it was a good song. You know, it's like cliche. Um it's it's kind of a it is a unique storyline, I think. I can't think of another movie or TV show where they have like this exact storyline where it's like um a megastar steals um like a like a small town musician's song and goes number one, and then the small town musician has to like basically take their credit back. Like I can't think of a another project that has that plot. So I do think it's an it's original, but a lot of things feel familiar. Yeah. I was really excited about it because I love the musical once. Yeah. Uh I love the show. I've never actually seen the movie, but I've seen the musical many times. I've read the musical many times, I've auditioned with the musical many times. You and I have directed a scene from the musical in high school. That was our senior like showcase. Senior showcase, yeah. Um so I'm very familiar with it. So I was really excited. I I am disappointed that it really was just like two, maybe three songs, but like most of the songs were the same song over and over again. Yeah. I was kind of hoping that we'd get some more like magic in that sense.

SPEAKER_02

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_01

Uh, but it was still very good, you know. So but just a little predictable. I agree. Um, I felt like, and I think the characters were cute. I don't think they they were like super deep characters either, you know. Right. But um, you don't really see a whole lot of character development in anyone. No. So it's like I I can't really give it a high score because I don't think that anything uh revolutionary happened or anything super deep. Yeah, you know. It was just like it was just good chemistry. Like a good like good chemistry, a good watch. Catchy song. Catchy song. Yeah. Um I'd be curious to see how I feel about it watching it the second time. I probably will with Allison when she's not pregnant. Uh and the movie's out. Digitally. Yeah. Probably watch it. I mean, this would be a good movie for families. I think it would be like, I think you could probably, you know. You could take a kid to see this movie. Yeah. Uh what else is gonna be a great movie for family? What's that? Toy Story 5. Oh. Okay, we're a week out from seeing Toy Story 5. Michael and I will see Toy Story 5 in exactly one week. Right. Uh, everyone else in two weeks. Oh my gosh. Uh really rub it in their faces. Are you now excited to watch Toy Story 5 a week out? You've been very critical about Toy Story. I'm I don't listen. I'm an I'm not super excited. I'm not like dreading it. I just I I'm a little bit indifferent towards it. Okay. Like to me, I'm like, I'm gonna go, I'm seeing another movie. I'm not like more excited for this one than I would be for anything else. How do you feel about this the plot line, like the storyline? Um, it feels relevant. Yeah, I think it's very like I think it very I think it matters a lot. Yeah. So I think that's exciting. Yeah. I just think like a lot of the stuff that they're going to do to make the movie emotional is stuff that I think I've seen before. Yeah. In this franchise. Well, we've never seen tech before. No, but I mean like the things that make the movie emotional, like toys being left behind. I don't think anyone's being left behind though. Like, yeah, I think. You don't think they're all kind of being left behind for tech? I mean, yes and no. Like, I don't think it's really like I don't really think it's about tech winning or tech or toys being replaced. Like, I don't think that's the message of the movie. I think it's just about like the evolution of play. You know, it's like what's appropriate for kids? Is it appropriate for them to be on screens? Is it appropriate appropriate for them to be on like with physical toys? I think like iPads are I think i iPads are incredibly beneficial for kids. Yeah, like I think but like for kids, like I think like we all like iPad kids are memes, yes. Yeah, but I do think there are benefits, there are also downfalls. Um I think this movie's gonna explore how they coexist because like the Lillipad's a villain, you can't you're not gonna beat tech. Like you're not gonna the LilyPad's not gonna lose. Right. Like that's just not realistic. Yeah so I think it's just gonna be I think that the obstacles are gonna be more internal than like being left behind. Yeah. I I think that like probably the conclusion of the movie is gonna be something like, okay, um, Bonnie has a certain amount of screen time, you know? I really think that's gonna be the end of the movie. Where it's like right now she's like hooked on the iPad, she gets um unlimited access to it, and then you know, by the end of the movie, I think they're gonna be like, okay, you get one hour screen time, and then you have to go play with your toys. How smart do you think the toys are are in the Toy Story universe actually are? What do you mean? Like, do you think they know what a Wi-Fi router is? No. God no. What? Because they could just unplug it. No, they're boomers. They could literally just unplug it. Maybe, maybe Ham. Maybe Ham knows what a Wi-Router is. Ham's like, Ham just unplugged the Wi-Fi. Ham was always like the technical. He was playing video games. Yeah. He was gaming. He was the Rex. Exactly. No, Rex would know. Because Rex was reading the magazines and like being up to the game. But I think like Ham would like set up the stuff for Rex, if I remember correctly. Like Rex played the games, but I don't know if he that makes him technically savvy. Rex just didn't have like hands big enough. Oh, okay. So it's like he was he was limited. Yeah, well, the two of them definitely together, they'd figure out a way to shut down the tech. I'm excited. That might actually happen. That might be a plot point. And like they're like, we gotta sabotage the tech so that we can become Bonnie's like toys again. I do think with like Toy Story, like I think with each movie that passes the may the background toys kind of are less and less. Yeah. In Toy Story 4, like we really didn't we barely even got Buzz, honestly. In like Toy Story 4, I felt like I rewatched Toy Story 4 recently, and I feel like Buzz is in it more than I remembered. The problem is that they made Buzz an idiot. Okay. And compared to the the previous Toy Stories, he's in it less. Yes, yes. You know, like I like in the other ones, like he had way more screen time. Yeah. Like it was him and Woody basically splitting the the spotlight. Well, Toy Story 4 was like it was Woody's movie. Well, like Buzz kind of went on his own like side quest to find Woody in Toy Story 4. Here's the thing with Toy Story. But he did that in Toy Story 2 and he had way more screen time. Have you noticed in every Toy Story movie it's a toy gets lost? Yeah. Like it's not about like being left behind. They just literally just get lost. They get and then and then get get left behind later. It's the same, like, a lot of sense the reason why the reason why they get lost is because they get left behind. It's like they're like, okay, I care less about this toy and then they get lost. Well Woody didn't that's not what happened to Woody in Toy Story 2. And that's not what happened in Toy Story 1. In Toy Story 3, Andy went to college, yes, and they were being donated to play with kids. So they weren't being left behind. They were just giving they were never they never really were ever left behind. But in Toy Story 1, it only happened to Emily. In Toy Story 1, it was kind of a thing because he was starting to spend more time with Buzz, and I know that they like kind of like got lost it was their own fault. But at the same time, like the message of the story was kind of like, oh, you're like abandoning your old toy for like the new shiny thing. And then it's like, and then stuff goes missing, and you have to find your toys again and like reconnect with your toys. I guess. I think actually I take it on. Toy Story 2, it's like ironically, hey, what happened to Woody? The mom's like, oh, I sold him. I didn't think you needed him anymore. I take it back. I actually think Toy Story 5 probably will touch on abandonment because it is Jesse returning to Emily. It's like that area. That's real area. That's not it's confirmed. Oh, it's confirmed. Yeah, because they should they we've seen what Emily looks like. We know like there's gonna be Emily flashbacks. We know that Jesse goes back to her old house. Like that's already confirmed. Gotcha. We know this stuff. See, now when I go see the movie, that's not gonna surprise me. This is what I was talking about earlier. That's true, but that's Disney's fault. That wasn't that was that was promotion. They wanted you to know that. But that's yeah, but it's like it I don't really like go and like look that stuff up. Um you should have told me. This isn't your fault at all, especially because we do this. But it's like I used to be able to like go see a movie and not know that stuff like that was gonna happen. Yeah. And then when that would happen on screen and go, oh my god, look at that.

SPEAKER_00

No way.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. But now, like, now when that happens, I'll be like, right, Bearcon told me this was gonna happen. Yeah, okay, fine. Um, quick, quick speed rank of the Toy Story movies. Go. Oh gosh. There's four of them. Oh my gosh. How hard can this be? I think I like Toy Story 2 the most. Okay, start from the bottom and then go up to Toy Story 2. Wait! Speed rank! Why would you give away the best one? You're telling me that you're telling me to do it fast and then you're telling me go, go, go, go, go, go! By the way, you're doing it wrong. I'm still doing it wrong. I don't have the order. Toy Story 1, 2, 3, 4. That's the order. No, no, no. Tell me which one you like the best. Toy Story 4 is the worst. Oh my god. And then I think and then I think um Toy Story 1, maybe. Interesting. And then Twist Story 3, and then Twist Story 2. Okay. It's the best? Um almost. Almost. I think it's a correct one. I think the unrated, I think the underrated take is that Toy Story is the worst out of the four. This was it's just this was based on pure instinct, by the way. If I thought about it more, how you know it's genuine. That's how it's not be genuine, though. Here's the thing, here's my turn. Toy Story, I think, is the worst out of the four. When you rewatch it, I think you can see like the glaring like script problems. However, it's the most revolutionary and the most nostalgic, therefore it's feels sinful to say it's the worst. But it is. They're all great movies. Then I would actually I would actually put Toy Story 3, second to last. I used to not feel that way, but I think the second act is really long and boring. Uh great first act, tremendous final act, not a great middle act. Okay. Um Lotto Villain, great. Toy Story 4, I think, is actually a very completed movie. Visually, it's really it's the best visual one. I think the lessons are really good in it. The most recent one. Yeah, but they like they just did they there's a lot of really clever like animation tricks that make it look like it's filmed with a real camera. Okay. Um I think the plot actually, I think it's funny, and I think the plot really just holds up, and the story and the lessons really hold up really well, and I like Woody's journey. You're talking about Toy Story 4. Toy Story 4. The most recent one, yes. You're saying it's the most relevant story. Yes, but also, well, okay, that's but I said more than that. I think like the story itself, like the script, it's like it flows really well and it all works together. It's not necessarily a relevant story, like things are happening now. I just mean like it's a very like connected emotional story. Okay. The best one is Toy Story 2. That is true. That is factual. Alright, I got I got that right. Do you want to play a quick game? It's funny, I've never thought about Toy Story as one of the franchises where the sequel is better than the original. I think it is. I think it I mean every I think any I think I think it's actually more rare to find somebody who says they exist, but I think it's more rare for someone to say, if anyone's saying Toy Story is the best one, that's pure out of like you feel like you have to say that. Okay. Like anytime someone puts Toy Story in their top ten, I'm like, you feel like you have to say that of Pixar movies. Do you want to play a quick game? Um sure. How many Pixar movies do you think you can name? Oh, I could probably name seven. I can name ten. I can name eleven. I can name fifteen. I believe I think you can name every single one, to be honest with you. Yeah. Okay, go name them. Okay, you have I'm gonna do this in theory timeline order. Right. Alright, you have uh The Good Dinosaur, Brave, Luca, The Incredibles, The Incredibles 2, Lightyear, Toy Story, Toy Story Two, Turning Red, Finding Nemo, Finding Dory, Ratatouille, Toy Story Three, Toy Story Four, Up, Inside Out Coco, Inside Out Two, Toy Story Five, Uh, Soul, Elio, Hoppers, Uh, Win Orse The Pixar The Pixar Series. Then you Time Jump Okay, To The Cars Era. So Cars, Cars Two, Cars Three. Then you Time Jump Again to Wally, followed by another time jump of uh uh uh uh uh You're choking Bugs Eye, followed by another time jump of uh Onward, then Monsters University, then Monsters Inc., then Elemental, and then you still have the Pixar movies that are in development, like Gato and Coco 2 in The Incredible Story. And I have no way of knowing if you're right. So congratulations. And it never would have beaten you at that game. No, you really wouldn't have. It is impressive that you remember like every single Pixar movie and that the order that they theoretically are in chronologically. I used to practice this in the shower. I believe you. I could do it if I really try. I could do it in 30 seconds. I'm back in the show. I think you've done it on this show before. Yeah. It's my party trick. Okay. I have another new game that I want to play with you. I thought of this game. I want to play a game that I'm calling common thread. Okay. I'm going to give you three projects, movies or TV shows, and you have to tell me what they have in common. Okay. Some of these are hard, some of them are hard, some of these are easy. Okay. To be real with you. And these can be this can be like anything that they have in common. So it's like this could be they have the same director, the same actor, they have a similar story element. They they came out in the same year. I get it. It can be anything. Yeah, I get it. So this one Common Thread. Alright. So the first three movies in Common Thread are Iron Man, Surfs Up, and the Big Lebowski. I never see the Big Lebowski. Shoot. Tough shit. John Favreau. Nope. Okay. That's how many guests do I get? Um, you can you can get three, and I'll also give you three hints. Okay. I would like it my first hint. Okay. Let me think. This uh it's an actor. The common thread is an actor. Wait. RDJ's none. No? No. It's not RDJ. Okay, uh, okay. That's your second guess, by the way. I heard you say that. That's your guess. No, that's okay. Give me my second hint. Okay. Um, your second hint is um in one of these movies, he's the villain. Give me my third hint. Oh my god. I'm down to my last guess. In in another one of these movies, he's the mentor. Okay, shoot. I know, okay, I know the actor. Oh yeah? Yeah, he's a bad guy in Iron Man. Yes? I don't know his name. It's Jeff Bridges. Jeff Bridges! You get half credit for it. Tron. Yeah, yeah. I didn't want to throw Tron in there because I thought that'd be funny. Oh my god, Jeff Bridges. But I knew I honestly funny. If you said Jeff, if you said Tron, I would have I would have remembered his name as Jeff Bridges. Yes. That is funny. Like the word association in that? Okay, okay. Yeah, yeah. Well, I've seen Jeff Bridges at an event and it was for Tron. So like that makes sense. To be honest with you, I was like 50-50. I was like, I think Barricon hasn't seen the Big Lebowski, which is why I threw that in there instead of um Tron. Because I was like, if I throw Tron in there, it's gonna be immediate. That was kind of like a trick question, too, because like he's a villain in one, but he's a mentor in two. Uh well, in the Big Lebowski, he's just the main character. He's not a Right, but he's a mentor, I know, but he's the mentor in Tron. And no, he's the mentor in Iron Man and Surfs Up. Oh, I guess he is kind of the mentor in Iron Man. Yeah. Okay. Well, that should have helped you get it even more. Well, I got that. You knew who it was, yeah. Yeah, I just I didn't know his name. Alright. This one, this one is uh I don't think you're gonna get this one. Okay. I got one for you too, by the way. Alright. Uh the next three movies for Common Thread are Coraline. Crap. Being John Malkovich and Alice in Wonderland. Hint. Alright. Um, this involves like um like some of the main imagery of these movies. Is it drugs? No. Okay. Uh okay, well it's not stop motion. Also, I am John Malkovit. Being John Malcolm. Another thing I hadn't seen. You need to watch these movies, man. Yeah, but okay, give me the second hint. Okay. Um, the second hint is that it's it's not an actor, it's not it's not a person, it's like a theme. It's a common theme that happens in all of these movies. Okay, so but it wasn't drugs. No, it's not drugs. But it's not tripping. No it's hallucinations. No. It's a different parallel universe. You're close. You're close with. That's my three. Oh, I guess that is your three guess. You didn't even ask for your third hint. No, what was the third hint? I probably would have told you something like, um, it it takes place in two worlds. Like these movies take place in two worlds. There's a portal. Yes, it's it's crawling through a weird portal. Dang it. Okay, okay. Alice falls. Yeah, but she has to crawl through the door to fall through. But the portals in being John Malkovich and Coraline are like weirdly similar. Like they're like exactly it's like a door in a wall, and then you like crawl through it, and it's like this weird, like, like circular, cobweb, like worm portal, and then you pop out basically in another world. In being John Malkovich, you pop out inside John Malkovich's brain. Like you are John Malkovich. Can I hit you with a common threat challenge? Sure. Okay. Invincible, the boys, teenage mutant ninja turtles, mutant mayhem. Invincible, the boys, teenage mutant ninja turtles, mutant mayhem. I mean, they're all they all fight crime, or they're all like some sort of hero. Wrong. Okay, give me a hint. It's about how they're made. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, okay. Invincible. Um, they all there's oh, is there like a weird serum involved in all of them? No. Hmm. Uh okay, give me another hint. Second hint? Yeah. It is how they're made in Hollywood. How they're made in Hollywood What? Yeah. Wait, wait, was Mutant Mayhem the one that just recently came out? The Seth Rogan one? Okay. Oh! Are they also Seth Rogan's involved in all of them? Yeah, that's it. There it is. I was literally asking a genuine question that went, like, dot, dot, dot. I was like, I was like, yeah. That's a good one, actually. That is it. Because in what in like one, he's like the director. Yeah, he produces all of them. He produced all of them. But he's also in some of them. I think he's in all of them, too. Is he in the boys? Like, is he actually in the boys? He plays Seth Rogan in the boys. Okay. Wow. Okay, so he's in and produced all of them. So it's Seth Rogan. So the answer was just Seth Rogan. When you get to a certain level of um success, I feel like in Hollywood, if they ask you to like be in something, you also ask for a producer credit or something. But like he's like legitimately like been producing these. Like Seth Rogan's on a run. He also directed um at Teenage Media Ninja Turtles and The Boys. I don't think he didn't direct The Boys. Oh, okay. He didn't direct Teenage Media Ninja Mayhem, I don't think. Really? No. Okay. He just produced he's just producing all these books. But he likes to be giving him a lot of credit. Seth Rogan, though, to give him a lot of credit, I think is uh is near the top of the game in Hollywood that nobody wants to admit. Oh. Like his projects are great. He's producing great projects, like he's doing so well. Yeah. So well. So props to Seth Rogan, man. Yeah, seriously. Alright, well, it is weird. I do think he's like kind of under the radar as like one of the most successful people in Hollywood. Yeah. I've like everyone knows it. Like he is an A-list celebrity, but like honestly, like all of his projects are successful. I think Seth Rogan could win an Oscar. Really? If he ever, like, I think he's capable enough as an actor to where if he was ever put in a role that demanded it, I think he could do it. I just don't think he's like, I don't know if he's scared to do it. I don't think he's never, he's never genuinely tried. What was the one we just saw with Keanu Reeves and Aziz Lansar? Yes. Good fortune. Good fortune. Do you think, I mean, do you think that would have been the place to like go ham on acting or like to try to go back to the box? Because that movie wasn't that movie got zero buff. Does he does he do anything else that's like serious? He's never done like a movie that could have been. I don't think he's ever done Oscar Bait. Like he's never done. He's never done Oscar Bait. The problem is like he used to specifically do like anti-oscarbait, like almost like Adam Sandler-esque movies with like James Franco. But I think he genuinely could do it if he tried. This is a challenge. But like Seth Rogan. The only reason he would lose is because they're like, I just couldn't unsee Seth Rogan. Yeah. But it has it would have nothing to do with his acting abilities. I think we should, I think we should push him. I think we should push. Seth Rogan, get your Oscar. Seth Rogan, I challenge you to win an Oscar. Don't be a pussy. At least try. Do it. Okay. I think that'll get to him. I think that. I think that he'll see it. Yeah. Okay, I have another three movies for Common Thread. Okay. Shrek, Godfather, The Dark Knight. This one, we've talked about this before. So I feel like you should know this common thread. The Dark Knight Godfather. Yes. Okay. Um. Have we talked about this before? We've talked about this before. And in fact, we kind of touched on it this episode. Like we And I'll tell you, I'll tell you when I reveal the top. Oh, uh Abandoned? Nope. Abandoned Abandoned Left Behind. Nope. Are you- No, no, no, no, that's the same thing. Okay, so that's one guess. Alright, give me a hint. Okay. These are all franchises.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

These are not specifically like the one movie. They all have they're all trilogies. Nope. Yeah, Trek's not even a trilogy. Right. Okay, nothing. Give me another hint. Give me another hint. Okay. This is a about a theme. I want to say it's not about an actor thing. There's a plot line. It's not a plot line, even actually. Okay. They have they have something in common like about the franchises themselves that has nothing to do with like individual actors or producers or a plot or anything like that. Give me the third hint. Okay. Um let me let me think about this. Um, this is about how these movies rank, like the their ratings. Okay. Okay. Shrek. Godfather. Yeah. The Dark Knight. The Dark Knight. They all have the same Raw and Tomato score. Nope. Oh, that's three. What is it? The sequels are all better than the original. Oh shoot, we did say it. We've never seen The Godfather. But they all say, but everyone says Godfather 2's bad. But also, like, you did that wrong. What do you mean? You should have said Batman begins. No, the franchise is called the Dark Knight trilogy. Yeah, but the first the Dark Knight's the name of the sequel. And the first hint was. But you gave me you gave you three movies, two of them were the first movie, and the sec the second one was the sequel. Yeah, even if that were true, though, like the first hint was these are all franchises. Like the clue, the hint was we're talking about the franchise. Yeah, but if the if I was supposed to say the sequels or their sequels are better, technically, it should have you should have said Batman begins. I would have got if you said Batman Again. But did you then I should have also said Shrek 1 and Godfather part one? No, but Shrek is the name, and you just said the Godfather, so I assumed. I think I'm right. I think you cheated. I think you're coming up with excuses. I think you cheated. You're allowed to lose. What else you got for me? I have I have one more for you. Are you having fun? I'm having fun. I'm having a lot of fun. I like this game too. All right. Here's three more movies in the common thread. The Wizard of Oz. Shoot. Inception. Shoot. And Inside Out. Shoot. And I know you've seen all these movies. Yeah. They're all about what takes place in your head. Yes! Bang! First try! First try. No tickets needed. Equal. Bang. Good job, man. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. All right. Let me see. Let me try next we need to talk about the Odyssey. Oh, the Odyssey. Did something happen? Yeah. Tickets for the Odyssey just for the IMAX formats. Man, I have a man. Fandago, Peter, stop releasing tickets earlier than you say tickets are going to drop.

SPEAKER_00

The reason, Michael, you and I are going to watch the Odyssey in 70mm IMAX in the third row is because they dropped 20 minutes before they said they were going to drop. And I had no other option.

SPEAKER_01

But you know what? It is a flex that we're going to be watching the Odyssey on opening 9.50mm IMAX. I'll take that. No matter what seat I have to sit in. I mean we'll take that. You and I have sat in pretty much any seat you can sit in IMAX. I think we're fine. And watch Inception in the third row. It is kind of cool like looking up at an IMAX when you're fully immersed. We're going to be fully immersed. We're going to be vibrating. Do you think the Odyssey will be successful? I really hope so. I I would have said 100% chance, but then when they released the casting, people got mad for some of the. But do you give a shit about the casting? Hell no. In fact, I like the casting. Amen. If I'm being honest with you, amen. It's not even that I don't give a shit. I actually like it. I think the Odyssey is going to be the greatest cinematic event of all time. Hold on a second. Wait a second. What are you doing? Oh I'm grabbing something from the back seat. This kind of hurts me. Oh man. You have to stall for me for a second, Bearcon. I'm gonna I gotta help you. Oh, okay. So Bearcon and I went to Cinemacon um, I guess two months ago. And they were giving out a lot of goodies. Um, they were giving out a lot of t-shirts and stuff, and Bearcon. This is the wrong one. What what what hat's that? This is Dune 3. Oh, that's the other IMAX 70mm movie. Here you go. Thank you. And we got this super sick Odyssey hat right here, exclusive from Cinemacon, and this is now my prized possession. Yeah, I'm really does it say Cinemacon on it? Uh no, it doesn't. No, it doesn't. I think the Dune Part 3 one, does that one say Cinemacon? Let me look. No, it just says Dune Part 3. Oh, yep, Cinemacon 2026. See, I think that's sick. They should have done that with this. They really should have. Um, this, I would have loved this hat. Yeah. It just doesn't fit my head. Yeah. So yeah, Barracon actually got it and then he gave it to me. So thank you. I'm a really good friend. I also was the one who secured the Odyssey tickets. Yes. Anyway, all that to say, I am still super bullish on the Odyssey. And I and I think that, you know, we can't judge it until we actually see it. I think it's gonna be spectacular. I'm so excited. Like when we were doing, we still can't reveal the movies we watched in our IMAX 24 hour uh marathon. Is it not posted yet? No. Oh, okay. We still can't reveal that. Oh whoops. I didn't I haven't revealed it, but I just didn't know that we couldn't reveal it. Uh we still can't reveal it. Um we just finished the first draft of the vlog.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

That's what you saw. Yeah, yeah. I've seen it. Yes, you've seen the vlog. Um but the there's so many times in the movie where we were watching a movie in IMAX, and I was like, man, I just wish it stayed in the aspect ratio of the entire screen. Me too. I was like, it looks so good. It's it started becoming like when you're like watching a movie for the first time, I don't think you really like notice it. But when you're like watching these movies back to back to back in IMAX, you really start to pay attention to the details, like the technic, the technical aspects of an IMAX experience. And man, sometimes it hits you when there's like those black bars, and then all of a sudden there's this it's just this full screen cinematic scene that is way bigger than the last shot was. You go, Whoa, it's incredible. And I sometimes the changing of the aspect ratio does hit you. It does. You always you when it does hit you, you always go, Why don't you why didn't you just show me that the whole time? Yeah, but yeah, exactly. You're like, man, I kind of wish this entire screen was like this the whole time. Yeah. So the Otsy's gonna be like that. I'm so excited. First movie to ever be doing that. A hundred percent. Yeah. But I think that um at Cinemacon, I do think that they said Spider-Man Beyond the Spider-Verse is gonna be filmed in the same aspect ratio? No, it's a different aspect ratio. Okay, a lot they yeah, they talked about the new aspect ratio like it was gonna be a huge revolutionary film change. Yeah. Like that might be the direction that film is going in. Yeah, we'll see. We'll see. Um watch this space. Do you think do you think One Piece fans will enjoy the Odyssey? Oh my god. Do you think the Odyssey and One Piece are actually very similar? One Piece is actually an Odyssey. It's literally going on an Odyssey. It's the Odyssey. Yeah. They're they're on they're on the sea. Odyssey. They uh there's mythical creatures. There are there's a very specific thing. The one thing I'll say, I mean everything about the plot has changed, but they are going on a long ass journey. It's been like 20 years. They're going on a long-ass journey over the sea. Yeah. It's been like 20 years. Yeah. Um, not exactly trying to make it home like they were in the Odyssey. No, it's a different objective. The One Piece objective is far more difficult than the Odyssey. But I do think if you like the whole like theme of like adventure at sea, you know, if that aspect of One Piece appeals to the fans, then yeah, I think they're gonna love the Odyssey. I don't think it's ever been stated that One Piece is ever inspired by the Odyssey, but I think you can find inspiration from the Odyssey in any modern like story. Interesting. Like, I think a lot of these like adventure, like these classic adventure movies, like have some type of aspect that was originally or originated from the Odyssey. This is like the original story. It's a great stories, yeah. Exactly. It's like this and like the epic of Gilgamesh or something. You know what I mean? Now, alright. Alright. But speaking of One Piece, we're finally done with Alabasta. Thank God. I finished episode 130 this morning. How many Michaels are you giving the Albasta Arc of One Piece? The Alabasta arc, if we take out those like six episodes where they're walking in the desert, like I which I think are filler, I'm giving it a nine. I think it's a nine. It's a nine out of ten. Which is because like the first hundred episodes or whatever, I gave the show like a 6.5. The Alabasta arc. The Abasta arc in One Piece is pure jazz. That's it's jazz, Michael. It's jazz, it's jazz. And that's what I've been really waiting for. Is because everybody, all of the fans always say, like, there's gonna be a moment where things click for you, and and you're really gonna fall in love with the characters, the story, you're gonna understand their their chemistry. And I'll and I'll tell you what, this was it for me. When Luffy started fighting with the blood on his fists to land blows, yeah. Oh, the fight with Crocodile? Oh, which one? Oh he Luffy pinned Crocodile to the ceiling with his punches with the f with the gum gum storm. He was going and he pinned Crocodile to the ceiling. Who does that? And then he punched him so hard the ground bubbled up above them and broke through and sent Crocodile flying, and then King Cobra was like, there was like a mile of bedrock above you. He was like, How'd you do that? Like, it was insane. Crazy and and keeping in mind that like theoretically, Luffy shouldn't even be able to punch crocodile in the first place. No, but the blood on the fist. Yeah. We were talking we were talking about like the Sandman theory of how do you beat I was like I was like we're dead about it. It's gotta be water. It's like it's gotta be something water. I never would have predicted blood on fist. No, that was actually an insane. He did do water first, right? And then he lost. Yeah, but the blood blood on the fist goes so much harder. Well, the well, the first fight he didn't have anything and he lost. Fighting, but then but then he did the water, he had the barrel, but then they kind of got separated, right? The concept of Luffy. Oh wait, he did no, wait, he did lose. He saw it. He lost, yeah, he lost. He lost. He happened to survive. He happened to survive. It was like a coincidence that he survived. Yeah, um, the concept of Luffy fighting and beating Crocodile with the blood on his fist might be a top five fiction thing, in me, in my opinion. The concept of it, like the whole idea, I was like, I was so high on it. I was like, this is crazy. Dude, coming out of this arc, I am most excited to see what happens with Nico Robin. I've heard post-Albasta is booty cheeks, though. Oh, okay. But then it's gonna go right back to peak. But in this arc, like, they they dropped like so much lore about Nico Robin, who kind of seemed like a side character for a long time. Another straw hat. When are we gonna stop adding straw hats? She just got added to the group, but this one does feel different. Yeah. Because this one, like all the other straw hats, like everyone begged them to join. You know, like Luffy begged Zorro to join him, and then Luffy begged Nami to join him, and then begged Sanji to join him, and then begged Chopper to join him, and then some people joined temporarily who they asked to join, but then declined. Like Vivi just happened, and there was that girl in the in the filler arc with the dragon, who I guess doesn't count. But this is the first time where someone has been like, I am joining your crew, and the rest of the crew is like, I don't know about you. Like, you don't really fit in with the rest of us. Yeah. So it's like, this is the f I I honestly am not sure how much I like her as a straw hat, but I am very curious about her backstory and her motivations. I feel for Sanji so much, man. Oh poor Sanji. Just surrounded by beautiful women all the time. Just all those beautiful women all the time. Yeah, this poor man can't operate this way. He but he's got no self-control. That guy, that guy bugs me when he's like, when he's just like slobbering, when he's chomping at the bit. Like, dude, get it together, man. Yeah. Poor Sanji.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Do you think Luffy will ever find love? No. It makes me sad because I agree with you. I think Luffy is like a Marty Supreme where he will like, he will like, he will have a situation ship that does it will never compare to finding the One Piece. And that makes me sad. I think Luffy deserves love. No, I think he's asexual. I don't think he cares about I don't think he cares about that at all. I think asexual people can still find love. I think he's asexual, aromantic. Okay. But like Luffy has showed zero interest in that. I know. I'm not saying he's going to find it. I'm not predicting he's gonna find love. You just want you want to love it. I'm just a lover boy. I'm a lover boy. I don't think that that that this is what that show is about.

SPEAKER_00

I know, but I want it. I don't care if it's not what it's about. I want the romance, man. I don't think it's on this pirate ship on the sea. I think that's every rom-com romance novel double in the wave of whatever is based off this idea.

SPEAKER_01

I think the best you're gonna get is Sanji just like fawning over beautiful women and the beautiful women wanting nothing to do with Sanji. I think that's the best you're gonna get. I hope Sanji finds love. I hope I don't think he is. Luffy finds love. I hope Nami finds love. I don't think she is. I hope I hope Zoro finds love. I don't think he is. I hope Chopper finds like a nice deer. I don't think he is. I don't think that's what the show is. Is it wrong to want something? Is it wrong to want a happy ending for characters? I think their happy ending looks totally different. I I think that they like the best happy ending for them is about them accomplishing their goals, not necessarily finding somebody. Yeah, I know. I think I don't want you to get let on. I think you're leading yourself on right now. Probably am. Anyway, he's a very good arc. I'm finally I'm glad that we're finally done with Albasta. Because I think the internet agrees it's taking us too long. However, I would like to say something. Oh. I would like to say something about our One Piece journey. Our One Piece journey started with Michael saying for every follower he'll watch an episode of One Piece. Michael, I think, deserves so much. More credit than I think anyone has given him so far because Michael has not only said, sure, I'm actually gonna do that, and he's spent there's so many movies and TV shows Michael like wants to watch, but he's like, I'm picking one piece over it, like I need to watch it. People like my friends will tell me I'm not done gassing you up. And then Michael is like, everyone's like, just watch one piece. And Michael's like, no, literally, thousands of you have committed to us, so I have to commit back to you. I have to watch everything. I have to experience it all. I have to watch the filler, I have to watch the episodes I don't want to watch, even when the arc is booty cheeks. I'm gonna watch it.

SPEAKER_00

Michael has done that, thank you, and on top of all that, for everyone complaining, Michael's recording his reaction for everybody. So you can literally watch Michael watch every single 130 episodes.

SPEAKER_01

Michael has a reaction video, a full episode reaction video for all 130 episodes. It's all on our Patreon. Literally throw $5, you can watch Michael watch it all. Thank you. That's a lot of work. Thanks for that. It's hard. I mean 130 episodes is no joke. People that I know in person have like pitched shows to me. They're like, oh, you should watch this, you should watch that. I'm like, I actually don't have the time. I have to watch One Piece. I'm like, I'm gonna be watching One Piece for like years, you know, and and also like I can't watch One Piece like in bed on my phone, like on my side, or like while I'm eating or something. Like, I have to sit down at my computer, record myself, watch it. Friends that I have like in person who are who are caught up with One Piece are like, you need to watch One Pace, and even then you need to watch it on like 1.5 speed, and then you can like catch up really quick. And I'm like, dude, I have to watch the whole episodes, I have to watch them at normal speed so that I can record a reaction to them. And they're like also they're also like skip the filler. And I'm like, I told them that I'd be watching one episode for everyone who followed. If I skip like we have like I need to watch all of it at this time, and you know what? Like, I have to watch everyone. I think when it's related ever. I think when it's all said and done, Michael, I think like my theory is that you're gonna be one of the greatest One Piece minds on the internet because like think about it, everybody already comments about how much like how well you are understanding One Piece and what you're supposed to understand at this point in time. It's because you're so locked, because you have to be so locked in into every little word they say. I think I think having stream of consciousness, the fact that I'm talking into the camera while I'm watching it and doing stream of consciousness, like really helps me form, like connect thoughts together because I don't really forget a lot of the stuff. I don't even really forget like a lot of the lines that happen because someone will say something and I'll be like, that was an interesting line, and then like later on I'll be like, hey, remember when I said that was an interesting line? That kind of connects to what's happening right now. You I I legitimately think you are going to be the only person in the entire world who has a full video reaction to every single episode of One Piece. I don't think anybody has that. I'm working on it. I'm working on it. You're 130 for 130. Congrats, Michael. Thank you. We're more than 10% of the way caught up with the show. Can you believe that? Double digits! Double digits, yeah. Alright. Um, I did want to say, um, what do you think about the whole poneglyph thing? Like Nico Robbins looking for these poneglyphs, which are supposed supposedly are written in like some like indecipherable language that holds huge secrets that are kept like hidden from the vast majority of people, except for like royal families and stuff, and they're scattered throughout the world. I think it's the one piece. It might be related. No, I don't know. Here's the thing. Here's what I'm learning about the One Piece, right? We first started watching One Piece, we go through eras, right? The first phase of us watching One Piece, we're like, oh, the One Piece is the straw hat. The second phase is okay, the One Piece has something to do with the Lords, the Lords of the Sea. Now, then we're in the phase of, okay, it's all about the devil fruit. Now we're gonna be in this phase where it's all about these like secret hologriphs, what are they called? Polygons, ponoglyphs or whatever. And it's like this show is I think this show's job is to every like 20 episodes like refrazzle our brain chemistry to make us think something else is important. None of this is probably important at all. It keeps you on your toes. None of anything we've theorized about One Piece is probably even remotely important. I don't know, dude, because maybe like the poneglyph that Robin is searching for has some sort of direction that leads to it could be it could be like National Treasure where it's like this is a clue. I mean, maybe it's not a direct map to the One Piece, but maybe it is kind of I mean, maybe like maybe like when it's all said, it's really hard when you have a story that's been out there for like One Piece is really has to be really difficult to write because it's over 20 years, and if you start dropping too many hints, people will figure it out. Yeah, right? So it's like Well, he dropped the literal hint in the bottom of the ocean. People are close to figuring out where it is. As soon as the tech is available, it's it's over. Yeah. Uh but that's my thing. So, like, probably like what could happen as the end of the road, like the one piece is probably gonna be guarded by a lord, and that you have to eat dragon fruit, and you have to survive eating the devil fruit to get through it, and then you have to be able to read these ponoglyphs, and then whatever's next. And this takes place in the all blue. Yeah, and then you have to fight the best swordsman in the world. We all go, and you have to travel the entire world in order to find the requirements. It's gonna be a massive saga, and it's just gonna be like everything we've learned up in this journey is going to come into play, or it's not. So it's like it's maybe those are the two options. Maybe they're like not maybe they're just like throwing like bullshit on the wall, and then in the final like 20 30 episodes of One Piece, then they're actually gonna start giving us information so that we can't figure it out. So who knows? What do you think about um Bon Clay? Mr. Two. Mr. Two, now we know his actual name, Bon Clay. What do you think of him as a character now? I don't like any of the numbers. I still don't like it. Bon clay okay, now that Crocodile is defeated, I actually really like Bon Clay. Because before he was like a villain, right? Well, actually, when we first met him, he seemed like a good guy. Like he got along with all the straw hats and stuff, and then it was only when he left that they realized they were like, wait, we're on opposite teams. Yeah, yeah. It's really like a team divide. He did one bad thing, really. Like he he pretended to be the king and like started the whole civil war thing. But even then, like afterwards, when Crocodile was defeated, he's like, Hey, I actually really like you straw hats, and we don't have a reason to fight anymore. I saved your ship for you. Um, also, you you guys are trying to go like get Vivi. I will distract the cops so that you can make an escape and go get her because I fuck with you guys. I mean, that's like a classic like character. It's like a classic, like, villain, not villain, like you still can't really trust him, but like you can trust him. I kind of do trust him because even when we first met him, he was like, I like you guys. And then it was like, oh, I'm not supposed to like you. So I actually do think he wants to help the straw hats. I mean, he's fine. Like, I like his I like his abilities. Oh, you don't like the fact that he he rides or dies for the straw hats? I mean, I don't trust it yet. Like, I think I don't know, like I I don't know. I don't like I don't like being wishwashy. It's like this whole like it's like this whole like Bugsy thing, you know? Buggy. Buggy thing, where it's like, you know, everyone's like, we're like, oh, Buggy's a bad guy, and everyone's like, no, you're supposed to love Buggy, and I'm like, well, give me time. Like, give me time to like Yeah, but Buggy Buggy like hates Luffy. Like Buggy literally hates the straw hats. Bon Clay always liked it, like, for someone whose entire power is disguise and like deception, he kind of wears his heart on his sleeve. Yeah. Where he's like, Well, I guess you kind of have to. Yeah, so that so because otherwise no one's ever gonna. Otherwise, you're nothing about you is gonna be real. Yeah, I guess that's true. I don't know. I now that they have no reason to fight, I actually do really like him. And even his fight with Sanji was super honorable where he was like, just kill me. You won, kill me now. We'll see, we'll see if he grows on me. I honestly like could see him becoming a straw hat. No. Because all the other straw hats ride or die for Luffy so hard, and and Bon Clay is already there. Bon Clay is already like, you guys, he did the same thing that Luffy did for the rest of the straw hats. When Luffy was like, I'm gonna fight Crocodile, you guys go on ahead. Bon Clay was like, I'm gonna fight the Marines, you guys go on ahead. Like he's like he kind of gets it. Yeah, I guess. I mean, uh we'll see. Like I don't have any like immediate, like I didn't have any like immediate like emotional tie to Bon Clay. I just like the fact that he was will like like they overcame their differences. And when they did overcome their differences, he he respected them. And then he and then they also respect him. But like I kind of like I like that journey, like I know it's not the same thing, but I kind of like that journey more with like Smoker. Yeah, I d I like it with Smoker too. I like it for a different reason, though. I don't I don't think that Smoker joining the crew would be. No, no, no, but like I don't think well, first of all, neither of them joined the crew, so it's like we don't No, but I would like Mr. Two like Bon Clay. What I'm saying is I could see Bon Clay joining the Straw Hats. I couldn't see Smoker doing that. I see. I like the whole cat and mouse aspect. I like the thing where Smoker is like, I have to catch these guys, but I I actually do respect them. I I think that that is like super powerful, where it's like we still have to be on opposite sides. For Bon Clay, that's not the case anymore. They don't have to be enemies anymore. And and now that they don't have to be enemies, he's like, hey, I always liked you guys actually. So now that we don't have to be enemies, we can be friends. That's fair. We'll see. I I'm sure of time. I'm sure of time. Uh shall we go into We should skip this one and Masters of the Universe? Yeah, let's talk about Masters of the Universe. Yeah, okay. This this movie was really funny. How many Michaels are you giving Masters of the Universe? I'm I'm giving it six. Oh, that's way higher than I thought you were gonna give it. I thought I'm giving it seven Michaels. You know what? I'm giving it sorry, I'm getting this confused with Power Ballad. Okay, out of ten Michaels, I'm giving it four. Okay, that makes more sense. Sorry. I'm giving it seven Michaels. I remember in my head that they were both one off from five. Yeah, because I the first thing you said to me after Masters of the Universe was I did not like that movie. It was okay. My problem with it I liked it. Was that nothing really felt serious? The stakes, yeah, there were never like actual stakes. I think that's the whole point though. Well, wait. Yeah, there were never actual stakes. Yeah. What do you mean? Because even like everything was a joke. It's unsurious, but it's supposed to be unserious. Exactly. So it's like I just didn't like that vibe. Like, I don't I didn't like that the fact that the whole thing was unserious. That's not your type of like type of story. Like this to me, this wasn't supposed to be a comedy movie. Like it kind of it to me it kind of felt like half a comedy movie. You know what I mean? Like if I'm watching 21 Jump Street or The Hangover or something like that, you know, nothing has to be serious. Everything can be a joke. In this movie, I'm kind when everything is a joke, I'm going, okay, then what's the point? I will I will say that my like critique of the movie was it did feel like here okay, here are my critiques, right? It does feel like movie tries to like, right when you think it's about to be serious, they crack a joke, right? Yeah, and it's like it's like the world's gonna like end and then fart joke, right? It's like they do crack a joke, and that is unfortunate. However, they established from the very beginning that they're on serious, and therefore I can forgive it a little bit more. I also do wish Skeletor, which I thought was awesome by the way. I love Skeletor. I do I loved his like classic, like cartoony vibe. I wish he was more violent. Like I could not believe, and we are talking spoilers uh from this point on for Masters of the Universe, so you've been warned. I could not believe that he left Adam He-Man's parents alive that long. For real. Could not believe that. 15 years.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

For what? What do you get out of that? Uh, that was a little bit crazy. So I wish the movie was a little bit more serious in that sense, but I think like the movie captured what it was what it was. You know, like I think that's what Masters of the Universe. That's the other thing, I'd I really don't have a connection to this IP. Right. So it's like, okay, um, this is really my first introduction to Masters of the Universe, and to me, nothing really matters. So why so why get connected at all? I really like the action in the movie. I thought the action was really good. I like the fight. I like the He-Man Skeletor fight and the visuals they did with it. I thought it was good. I think it I think it's really enjoyable. I really do. Okay. And I couldn't believe I was seeing uh Ildris Elba in that kind of like tone.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

He's so like silly and goofy. Yeah, I it I feel like I've seen him in something like that before. I don't know. Everyone's like, I mean, he plays Knuckles in Sonic, so it's he's capable, but he's always just like this like badass, like serious, like James Bond type. I always I always really like Idris Elba. Yeah. Sick. Like I can't think of one role that he was in that I didn't enjoy. You know, right?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, no, I do.

SPEAKER_01

I do think he was probably to me the saving grace of this movie. Like I probably enjoyed him the most in this movie. I thought Camille Camille Mendez was good. She was good too. I like that. I liked that. I also liked that this wasn't like the I don't know how what the original He-Man story is, because we don't know the IP that well.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I like that it wasn't like a he went to Earth, didn't know anything about where he came from, and then all of a sudden they showed up and he's like, You're this god. And he's like, What? Like, I had no idea. I liked that he was like, No, I knew I remember all this, and like you guys gotta listen, like this is a thing, and he stuck his gun. I like that. You know what? That's actually a great point because we have seen the reverse of that so often. So many times. You're telling me I have a secret, really cool identity, like Harry Potter. Yeah, like it's like, well, I'm a wizard, and in fact, I'm the best wizard ever, and I'm rich. Yeah, I'm the child of prophecy. What? Yeah, yeah. That's that's wall, the chosen one, yeah. That's that's Madden, isn't it? I'm the greatest quittest player alive, yeah. Yeah, I am glad that like in this version, he's like, no, guys, I'm telling you, I'm the coolest guy ever, and they're all like, no, you're actually crazy. And the guy's like, sword or you're fired. He's like, of course I'm picking the sword that makes me a god. Like, what are you talking about? That actually is a good point. It is actually kind of original in that aspect. Yeah, like I like that. The only thing I don't like about that is that it was a little bit I wish like I wish uh his emotional, his return to like I mean his dad and like his mom like reunion was still emotional. I wish it could have been more. I kind of wish we got to see more. We kind of got the montage at the end of situations where him like believing all this was real, like is kind of seen through his fight with Skeletor. I kind of wish they explore that more. Like, I kind of wish we got a montage of him being bullied for this. Yeah. We kind of like dove right into like his adulthood, and I'm like, no, I kind of wish like I'd known like he was always like nothing, nothing was ever serious, nothing was ever emotional, nothing was ever, you know, everything was just that was the point. They sacrificed it all for in in all honesty, cheap punchline. But to be honest, though, Michael, like I know you gave it a four, but if they did not do that, this movie probably would flop.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it probably would be like another failed franchise that's not gonna start.

SPEAKER_01

But because they leaned into it being unserious, there's a different level of appreciation to where I think they could build off it. Yeah, I guess so. They are they're uh approaching it from a different angle. Yeah, they're kind of taking like a Guardians of the Galaxy approach to it. A little bit, honestly. Yeah. Because it is like a space colorful movie, yeah. Yeah, and it's and it's funny and it's retro, you know. Um, but I just didn't like the I mean like this is a similar problem that I have with One Piece, where they'll introduce a villain and the villain will just be ridiculous to the point where I'm like, I'm not intimidated by you. He looked badass, but then he would say the dumbest stuff. And I'm like, if you have a skull for a face and your eyes glow blood red, and you have a staff that has a death ray on it, why are you making like weird jokes like this? Or like innuendos? Or like why did we have a scene where you're in gym attire pumping iron at the gym? You know what I mean? That was part of the book. Why is he doing curls? Because you know, at the gym, bro. In in Lululennon. Like that I don't need to see Skeletor like trying to get his pump on. It's funny, though. I thought it was funny. Alright, we're very different on this one, but I think it's funny. It just to uh to me, it ruined all like credibility of the characters. They sacrificed all character depth and sacrificed Michael's enjoyment for the greater good. Alright. Anyway, I can I can appreciate if you're a fan of the IP why you would like this, or if you just liked the humor. I think I laughed maybe twice. I'm actually curious. I don't really know, I don't really know how people fans of the IP actually feel about this movie. So let us know. Yeah, let us know what you thought. If if you are a Masters of the Universe fan, let us know if this was a good uh adaptation of it. Yeah, please do. And I think that's our episode. I think that's our episode. No, no, we're the next two episodes, Disclosure Day and then Toy Story 5. Got it, got it. Um we'll probably have a few-week hiatus. Okay. Uh, which I think we should probably still like. I'm still gonna watch One Piece, by the way, when my baby's born. Okay. So we should watch it at a pace where when we come back. So I think we should keep our 10 episode week pace. When we come back, we should like if there's like way too much to talk about. I kind of like the fact that we can go in depth on this stuff. Well, we don't know until we watch it.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So maybe we watch it and we're like, maybe we should stop. Where if it's like, I have a lot to talk about in these episodes, like we shouldn't watch more than that. But I think we should But the our our break is not gonna be that long.

unknown

Right.
