In our second pod of the year, we had a great time chatting with Paintings, a Fort Collins band made up of Max Pliskin, Nathan Adams, Clay Kauffman, and Jolo Louis (our co-host!). Paintings (formerly Paintings of Decay) started making music at the end of 2023, has had many forms and iterations since then, with their sound constantly evolving in the process. Right now, they are bringing the noise and 90s-inspired sounds to the Fort Collins scene, having released their latest album, "Cricket" in 2026. Their single off the album I HATE IT HERE lowk goes so hard.

Welcome back or welcome to the Chaos Agents podcast. This is season two, episode two, 2026 edition. Holy we got paintings of decay, and we are excited to have y'all. We've got a lot of overlap here because we got Jolo in the band as well. And uh we've got Nate, Clay, Max, Jolo, M, Elijah. Hello. Let's get it started. Um, just have to point out though, you are the resident Nepo baby for the pod, because this is your second time on the pod for a second. So we're calling that out. Just had to begin preferential treatment.

SPEAKER_02

We actually well. So you introduced this as Pannies of Decay, but this is a little announcement. We're changing the name. We haven't even announced it yet. Yeah.

SPEAKER_11

So what is so now what is it? What is happening?

SPEAKER_02

We're just paintings now.

SPEAKER_11

Just paintings.

SPEAKER_02

Paintings. Okay. We're we're dropping.

SPEAKER_13

Okay. S S. Paintings. A rebrand.

SPEAKER_07

Thank you for clarifying.

SPEAKER_11

It's like you it's like Dunkin' Donuts is now Duncan. It's like, wait, wait.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's just cooler. Yeah, we're we're pulling in HBO. We're no longer decaying. I have to change our name again.

SPEAKER_07

What's the thought process behind the name change?

SPEAKER_03

I'm actually the only original member. Okay. And when I started it, like I was always kind of iffy on the like paintings of decay. And like every time someone would ask, like, what what's the name of your band, like I would be like embarrassed to say like paintings of decay. And I I don't it just doesn't feel like it like fits us, I guess. So like we'd always just call it paintings anyway.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, I think also we're like kind of a different band now.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, because I'm like the only one.

SPEAKER_04

I'm the second oldest member, and like I think the band I joined is different from the band I'm in now. Yeah, we're very different.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

So do you feel like project-wise, like is it your project? Or like I don't know, like some bands are like like Jolo is like everyone kind of is building up Jolo. Tell me about the structure or or how this came about, give us a little history.

SPEAKER_03

It it did start as my project. And like our first album, I wrote most of the songs and like uh brought them to our like first band. I feel like when around when Clay joined, we started like writing more together. And now I would say, I guess I'd say it's like kind of like our project now. Like it I mean at least to me it doesn't feel like just my project anymore, like in a good way. Like, yeah, you know, I'm not like the only one like driving it. Like we kind of just write by like jamming. It feels almost like not like a supergroup, but like everyone, like Klay and Jolo and Nate, like everyone has their own projects, and then it feels to me at least like we kind of come together and like make something like kind of different. I don't know.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, for a bit there it was like I mean, before Jolo and Nate were in the band, I think we were probably the only two like coming up with stuff in writing. Yeah. I do in a way though kind of still see you as like the leader, quote unquote.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, like I mean, I feel like every band you have like your the person who like Yeah, every band is like one or two people.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Really? Like, I w I don't know, like it's not like I would because I guess it I like it feel it would feel wrong to like do any like paintings like without you guys for me, I guess.

SPEAKER_13

So yeah, ever since I joined it's been like super collaborative. Even just like with the the songs we've written.

SPEAKER_04

The new EP star is cool because it feels like it really doesn't feel like there was like a soul writer or soul like creative person, which is weird because almost every band I've ever been in is like really just like all of the songs are either I've written them all or and that's kind of it, and there might be like one or two songs that someone else writes. Whereas this this EP is weird because it's like no one like there's I'd say we each have like if if we didn't one of us didn't write one of the songs fully like all all of us did or two of us did, like it it's it's really kind of crazy how spread across the board the writing of this album or EP was.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, because like if you remember at one point I was like I did write a bunch of songs like recently that I like brought to everyone. I was like, I want to do this. But then like I don't it just didn't feel like like we one song on the EP was the song that I just wrote alone and then like taught everyone. Two of 'em. Two of them. Wait. I Hate It Here and uh Concrete Walls.

SPEAKER_02

I Hate It Here was No, well, I Hate It Here was Oh I guess yeah, you kind of wrote that one.

SPEAKER_03

Well we wrote I Hate It Here, like I I thought what happened with that, at least my honestly I don't remember how a lot of the songs came together.

SPEAKER_02

We were smoking weird.

SPEAKER_03

Well yeah, it was like it was basically just do me and Joey Jam. Yeah, well that was before because Nate is semi he Nate's new to the band. He's very new to memory.

SPEAKER_02

We should talk about how we all came about, like into the band.

SPEAKER_07

Before we do that, um will you just say like what instruments you play?

SPEAKER_13

Oh yes. The weird thing is though, we're all multi-instruments. Which is really fun. You go first. Uh so my name's Nate. I joined recently. Um I'm pretty much singing. Um we'll probably add some synth play or maybe even rhythm guitar, hopefully. Even today, we kind of like were jamming with me playing drums. So either way, like I feel like again, we're all pretty multi-instrumental, but at least for paintings right now, definitely just doing vocals.

SPEAKER_02

And producing.

SPEAKER_13

Oh yeah, and just mixing engine yeah, just kind of doing that whole thing behind the scenes. Your turn.

SPEAKER_04

I'm clay. I'm clay. I I joined the band. I joined the band as just the drummer. Now I play guitar and drum and I sing on a few songs, and that's pretty much it.

SPEAKER_03

Uh I'm Max. I I when we started, I was playing like mostly guitar, um, and now I've kind of switched to like guitar and drums. I don't do vocals live, but on the EP I do some vocals here and there.

SPEAKER_02

Uh maybe one day I'll do live vocals, but I'm Joe Long and I play the bass, and I solely play the bass.

SPEAKER_03

Whoa. You should play more. Because I that's like the one thing with like this band that like Nate mentioned is like we're all kind of like producers and we play like a lot of instruments, like kind of like whatever, right? So and I feel like that's something that makes it like special. And uh I I think especially like after this EP, I want to like I I at least I I think it'd be cool to like do even more like experimentation and not not be like tied down to like the band the kind of structure that we have then. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

That makes sense. Uh that makes me think of Radiohead for Kid A. Um Tommy Rick just told everyone in the band, like, hey, none of you're gonna be playing the instruments that you normally play, we're gonna do something completely different, and then you're gonna learn to play something else for this album. And that was how they did it. And like that's the album was super electronic. Like it was all unfamiliar territory for all of them. Max, when did you start learning how to play guitar? Or what was your first instrument?

SPEAKER_03

Uh well, okay, technically my first instrument was guitar, but I was like I was like eight years old or something, and my uh like older brother had guitar lessons that he didn't want to do, so like I was kind of just like put into it, but I wanted I wanted to play piano, and then I took some piano lessons when I was like 11, and I think that was like when I first like actually started playing music. Um, but even that like didn't like stick super well. I couple years later took lessons again with this person who was less of like they were piano lessons, but um she kind of introduced me to the idea of like just like connecting with music instead of like being like just like one instrument. Um and then but then again I it didn't like stick and then when I was 16 that's when I seriously got into guitar. I was like my that was like my first instrument that I was like practicing all the time on my own. I I guess I practiced some piano, but like yeah, guitar was when I really got into it.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I get that. Okay, is there a song that you've written recently or that you released on the EP that your 16-year-old self would be disappointed with? Disappointed with a good question.

SPEAKER_11

That's actually like you and your question.

SPEAKER_03

No, that is a good question. Honestly, I feel like my 16-year-old self would be disappointed with most of the music that would be. Um my mind has like opened up a lot. I guess not most of there's some songs that like my young self would be like, man, that's really cool, but yeah, like because we've gotten like noisier and like just weaker.

SPEAKER_11

I wanna I wonder who's influencing that. It's clay. The answer is clay, always.

SPEAKER_04

Um I don't know. I mean, when I joined the band, it was kind of I suppose a little more straightforward like rock music, but I I think I don't know if I necessarily influenced it in the sense that like I brought it solely to the band. I think Max already had like a lot of that DNA in him because I mean from the moment we met we kind of instantly connected on that kind of thing. Yeah, exactly. Like that, I think we were both like in agreement that we wanted to make stuff like that because I sent you Cyclops. Cyclops, yeah. I sent you a uh a clay cane invertebrate song before clay cane invertebrates was a thing. And I think you were like, Do you want to use this for paintings? And I was like, No, but I'm glad you like it.

SPEAKER_03

I I don't think I I don't remember asking to use it for paint. I think I might have what I might have said is that like this is like the kind of music I always wanted to make.

SPEAKER_04

So oh yeah, maybe.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I I might have said that I don't remember.

SPEAKER_04

I don't know, it's hard to remember. I I remember I accidentally sent it to Eric before I was in the band, and he was like, Eric's our old, old bassist, by the way. And he was like, cool stuff, but you send it to the wrong person. I was like, oh, sorry. And then I was like, and then yeah, I think we we kind of connected on that. And and it wasn't, I think we were in like a weird um like sort of flux state as to what the band even was for the last little bit of excuse me, of having um our older members in the band because it was sort of this like push and pull of of us like sort of trying to make I think everything for all of our individual tastes. As much as I do love that era of my life and the band, I think it was they were all kind of it was it just I don't think we were fully bridging the gap.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

I mean well it sounds really powerful. I mean just how you're describing the creation of the EP. Like it's like super collaborative. Yeah, uh I I think that's rare. I think a lot of times it's like just a person's like, this is what I'm thinking, and like everyone just needs to fall in line. So it's cool that you do that, especially bringing a singer in. Like I'd be like, Nate, you being the singer, I feel like that's a little bit surprising for a band to do, like to just like bring in a singer. Uh what's your history with singing?

SPEAKER_13

Oh boy, um, so my mother is a vocal coach. I mean, she's been teaching voice and piano and songwriting my whole life. She's been doing that since she was about 20. So her whole whole career full of doing that. So I kind of got like I wouldn't say pushed into it but brought up in it. Yeah. Um constantly, you know, being a part of not even just voice, but piano. Um doing recital since I was little. Uh yeah. I've always been a singer, but never really like, hey, I'm a singer, you know. Um I feel that. Yeah. Recently, um moving to Fort Collins actually kind of projected me into the music that I knew I needed, like wanted to do, like, really, like, but um, yeah, thanks to Jolo for bringing me here. Um and I remember Joe was just mentioning, like, I think this was like months ago. This was before I even joined, but he was like, hey, paintings are gonna come over, we're gonna come listen to our EP. And I was like, that sounds cool, like, right.

SPEAKER_02

And we just like Dude, going back even further, that was our other EP too. That was before we had any of our music. When Nate wasn't thinking about moving down, paintings had a show. Oh, yeah. Yeah. And Nate was like, shit, I'll come check it out.

SPEAKER_04

And they watched us live at Lost Lake. At Lost Lake, and your bass broke at that show. Yeah, in the middle of the show, and Noah had to like Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Like a string broke or just like.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it was the bridge broke. It was the bridge. The bridge was like, I don't know, the saddle was like riding too low, and it was just like buzzing, and there was no sustain on the nose. So Noah like put his finger under the part of the bridge to like hold it up, and uh that worked, I suppose.

SPEAKER_13

I don't think it worked, but I think he like played it off to where it's like I think it was a band aid.

SPEAKER_03

And uh yeah, Noah was our uh singer before he was our first singer. He's he's awesome. He he just uh I love Noah. Yeah, me too.

SPEAKER_11

Shout out Noah for missing, man. I have no idea where you are right now, but hoping he's living he's living in Denver.

SPEAKER_03

He comes with um he has a girlfriend up here, so he like comes back and forth, but uh he moved to Denver and so it was great.

SPEAKER_07

Joel had had you ever played bass in a band before?

SPEAKER_02

No, this was actually like I bullshitted my way into this band like straight up. They made a post and they were like, we need a bassist. And honestly, I hadn't even really played the bass. I didn't even think the bass was important in like music. I wanted to join a band so bad that I was like, fuck it, I'll do it.

SPEAKER_07

So is that how you include that?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, literally, I I rolled up to the shed and clay and max were sitting on a curb.

SPEAKER_03

Because I I had seen your like um like your like influencer reels.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god, and I'd be like, if this song sucks, I'll give you five bucks.

SPEAKER_03

And I was like I was impressed by like the confidence that that takes to like just like go out and do that. Oh my god, thank god I did that then. And like I remember you hit it hit it hitting us up and like uh just because I'd seen those, I was like, cool, like this suit seems like cool. And then uh yeah, I remember you like coming in, Jamie. I don't even did we even try out any other basics. I think we tried like one other basics. I don't think we tried anyone else. There I now that I think about it, there's like one person or so I don't know. You might have met with him on your own because it's yeah, I think I met with I was like, because I had to meet with I remember there's like this like metal dude, he was like I don't even remember um I do remember looking for the the drummer because that was that was interesting.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, how did how did you join Clay?

SPEAKER_04

I was looking to join a band also because I didn't I hadn't been in a band in Fort Collins. And um Oh, I was on I was like going on Reddit. I don't know why I thought looking for a band on Reddit was the way. But Max was looking for a drummer on Reddit, and I Well I had too much. Yeah, we we met through Reddit and I hadn't it's weird because I'd actually heard of Paintings of Decay before. So I was like, okay, nice established band that you join. And then I don't know, I met Max like like April or something, in in April of like 2020. Is that 2023? Probably. Or four, no, it was twenty twenty four.

SPEAKER_03

Wait, was it 2024? Wait, yeah, it's 2024.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. I met him in April of 2024, and then they I tried out. I I just met with Max because Eric and Noah couldn't be there, and I didn't get it. I didn't get in the band. What? We chose small.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my god, that's Laura.

SPEAKER_04

Holy shit! And then that guy wasn't and then that was maybe like, I don't know, I think April. I went I they had a show like in May, I think. May or June. No, it was it was May.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And I went to the show just because I wanted to like keep the connection up and not just like be like, okay, well, fuck this. I I'm not fuck these guys, whatever. Like, um, I went to their show. And I remember you being like excited to see me. Well, cause I was like, oh wow.

SPEAKER_03

Cause like we went with another drummer at first, but uh the other drummer was I don't know if you know him, but Cohen from uh Spotted Bear. Spotted Bear, yeah. Um and he's like a nice guy, but so like Noah knew him like Eric knew him. They He had the Neppo. Yeah, no, he like yeah, he he knew uh more people in the band, and so like they wanted to go with him, but I remember like when I first told you that uh like we weren't gonna go with you, like I was still like I wanted to like keep meeting up. Yeah, keep meeting up. We did a few times.

SPEAKER_04

Like we we met up a a couple times to just like jam.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. And um 'cause like yeah, because like I feel like we connected musically.

SPEAKER_11

So you were in a situation ship turning the bag.

SPEAKER_04

Cheating on me. Actually, he was cheating on the paintings. Then on July 4th, you were saying, would you still be interested in being in paintings? And I was like, yeah, for sure. I remember it's July 4th because I was at my dad's and I was like, oh.

SPEAKER_11

So then you DTR'd, okay. Now you're married. Situation shift? Oh. Oh shit. It was like it was funny.

SPEAKER_04

Uh I joined the band, well, you told me July 4th. July 7th is when I first rehearsed with you guys, and then my first show is July 14th.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

So I learned like what are like eight or nine songs in like a week. Yeah. And yeah. And I was like, I was, it was the most I've ever practiced ever at any point in my life for any musical project.

SPEAKER_03

Really?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. I was listening to them to you guys so much. Yeah. Like on Spotify and and shit. And like you.

SPEAKER_13

I was like me before you guys.

SPEAKER_04

I was literally like non-stop listening to you, like trying to figure all the parts out. And I did it somehow.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah, because I was.

SPEAKER_04

We played at Globe Hall in Denver.

SPEAKER_03

Because then Eric, like, we played a few shows together with Eric, our other bassists, and then that.

SPEAKER_04

Up until uh September. Up until September is when he was. Uh September, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

I don't want to interrupt. If you all have any questions, I don't want to step on that. So I I feel like I've been just great questions. No, please. Um dial it up. Well I'm curious what uh and this is for all of you. Um please answer it once, that'll be fun for Pager asking. Yeah. No, um what do you feel like what is this band trying to say?

SPEAKER_13

Three, two, one.

SPEAKER_02

We low key could, we low-key could. Like, like I think I know what the answer would be.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I think we all have different ideas of it.

SPEAKER_03

We should I I'm I don't know, but I do, especially after conversations.

SPEAKER_04

I get the idea that it's like our collective, like the four of us, or whoever's writing the song. I feel like it's our collective, like subconscious, like sort of like making whatever kind of um, I don't know, making kind of trying to make peace with like the outside world and what we what we like um love and hate about it.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, yeah, what we hate. We've been really discussing it.

SPEAKER_04

And musically, I think what we're trying to do personally, I've always got the impression that we're just trying to like, I don't know, like air out what we what we have inside, I guess. Yeah. I don't know. Yeah, like I mean music's always been like an outlet for me. So like it's it's the most, I think, like expressist expressionist and like free-minded, kind of like go in with no expectations project I'm a part of or have ever been in. Like I with my own band, I try, I'm very like, I think I have a lot of intent going into any given thing. And with Paul Mall Jesus, I it's like kind of like that too. But with this, it's a lot more just like I kind of just clear my mind and and go with my instincts a lot more. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I feel like it is that like kind of just like the project where you like it especially because like all or yeah, I guess all of us are in different um bands too. Like it it it's To me it feels like there's like just less pressure. It's just like kind of just like all about just like playing whatever music you're you're feeling at the at the time.

SPEAKER_02

For me it's like uh it's almost like flexing like some sort of muscle. Cause like it's so different from what I've ever been like exposed to.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So like to like I don't know, go into every rehearsal or like writing session with like an open mind of like whatever we grab from the city.

SPEAKER_04

I think despite it being sort of the core of all of my other musical things I've I've done in in this city, I think despite that it's it's sort of like the least predictable of any of the bands. Like I I kind of never really know what's gonna happen with it.

SPEAKER_02

Which is sick because we can kind of do whatever.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. That's like kind of a lot of it. It's just like I think that's why like I don't even remember how a lot of the songs were written on the EP, because like we'll just jam a lot and like improvise, and then it'll be like, whoa, that's like kind of a cool song.

SPEAKER_04

It's a mix of I I think the way a lot of it happened is kind of just like a very small idea or framework to build upon. We'll jam on it, we'll record the jam, and then we'll sort of pick out things we do and don't like, and then just kind of make a structure out of that. That's how it has been, but like I could think like even six months ago was pretty different.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we were kind of in a weird.

SPEAKER_04

We weren't really writing a lot six months ago. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Six months ago it was only us three.

SPEAKER_03

There's like a time frame where it was Although I I guess like I mean, a lot of the EP was or not maybe not a lot of it, but like I hate it here, which is the first song on the EP. What are the other songs you've been playing? Normal Indiana. Was normal Indiana before Nate joined. Yeah, it was.

SPEAKER_13

I think B cause BL52 The only thing that we've written together with me involved was BL52.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, BL52.

SPEAKER_13

And I guess I guess you can. But you contributed to all of them.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, because I just kind of like put lyrics on them because I've got to be able to do the oldest song we actually had with the original incarnation. Well, minus Alex, but yeah. Um like with our with our original um singer and bassist, one of the songs is from that era. Wake up. Uh Wake Up, yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, damn. Um You guys have been playing Wake Up for years, it feels like. Yeah, you can really tell.

SPEAKER_03

Um well yeah, cuz because we had another EP that we were uh working on with Noah, and then just like Noah ended up having like his life got crazy, so it just like we were waiting for him to do vocals, I think, or something, and it just never really had that. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And then I was like, yo, I have a roommate.

SPEAKER_13

It's funny, back to full circle, whenever that you guys came over and were listening, I was just kind of just hanging out and kind of just like riffing, singing, like, you know, like, oh, like, because there was no vocals on any of the tracks. Oh yeah. And I was just like, oh, this was sound, like, you know, like not really thinking anything of it. And then I remember Max was pretty like, uh, I don't know about this guy. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It took a little, a little time. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

But over time I feel like we've grown into a band. Yeah. Yeah. Like and it sound the sound that we've created, at least from what I've seen, has been pretty epic.

SPEAKER_02

Like, it's totally different. Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

I and I'm and it's funny because I don't really know the history. So I'm constantly like, I'm learning stuff. You're learning the lore. I'm learning the lore in front of you guys, is what they're talking about. So it's kind of cool.

SPEAKER_02

I'm curious to know what since you're the newest member of the band, like, what does this all mean to you? Like, what what do you think we're trying to say?

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, it's a tough question to ask. I don't know. And that's the thing, like, it was hard for me to fit in, you know. Because I didn't know like what you guys expected out of me either. You know, because like hearing like what Clay was doing on Normal Indiana, it was like, how would my voice even translate to like your caliber of like emotion? You know what I mean? I don't know. And that's like it feels like I'm growing up, you know. Yeah, it feels like this last like six months that I've lived here, I feel like a completely different person. Um I mean you change your hair like every two weeks. Every two weeks. And then I'll it'll be like green tomorrow or something. No, but um I don't know. I'm just excited. I think that's the most thing is like I'm just really excited to see like what comes out of it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

But also, like, I feel like a lot of our music right now is definitely like pertaining to what's going on in the world in like a very like subconscious, like very like, we don't even realize it, and then it kind of like it blooms itself like we were just talking about.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I think I think it'd be kinda it's it's like more personalized to us. Like it it's to me like I guess like like a like an inward take. I think that's kind of cool. I I think on the AP you get like like a like sort of like a smattering of all of our perspectives across like sort of what what what I think we all think is happening and how that like personally affects us.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, because it's like I mean, like uh like a lot of it is like just per from like a personal experience, and like that experience obviously exists in like the current events that are going on. And so, um like it's very much like an expression of that.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, we're not making any definitive statements about the world, but really more about like ourselves in it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, like how it feels to like go through it, I guess. Um, but like yeah, like Nate, like as you said, like uh I I feel like it's kind of been the case with like all of our members that like we kind of just like bring them in, don't really give them direction. Yeah, and just let it bloom. We we usually do it like two weeks before a show, too. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Just to really make sure they're thrown in. I was done into the bushes, dude.

SPEAKER_03

I feel like Nate especially because we we didn't really have like it was just like it was just like calm.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, we didn't show up. We didn't have any idea of what you would do.

SPEAKER_02

No, no, no, dude. The first show Nate played. It was mostly like Nate just like looking at us from the crowd, like damn it.

SPEAKER_13

Just time and like figuring out like it's also at a sorority. It was at a sorority with a bunch of parents.

SPEAKER_10

Wait, what? What menu is like a backyard?

SPEAKER_13

Oh, it was like a competition.

SPEAKER_04

It was a battle of the bands.

SPEAKER_13

Family night. That show was the first time me ever like doing like uh in a band or even performing or even singing, like, you know, like you went for it, bro. I just completely turned my switch off of being insecure and just shit.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah, like to improvise and like be looking for cues. Yeah, there was no cues.

SPEAKER_13

It was funny because it was out of frack because it felt like it was some like what's the word haze?

SPEAKER_03

It felt like it was like we're like hazing.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, but and that's what Max said too. He's like, you're an embra or something like that.

SPEAKER_11

Or like you don't get the chords yet.

SPEAKER_13

That's for the next the night before I'm like, Max, can you like send me any lyrics for any of these songs or like anything? You're just like not bro, you gotta come up with it on the on the spot.

SPEAKER_07

So impressive, I'm not doing this.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, and I was I was talking with Jolo, I was freaking out. I remember like a couple days before the show, I'm like, Jolo, like, what the fuck am I doing? Yeah, yeah. And Jo's like, What did you say? Smoke this cigarette. Yeah, shut up and smoke this cigarette. Which I'm really glad it I'm really glad I like decided just to say fuck it, you know, yeah. Let's do it. Now I'm really excited about what's to come, like, and also like I'm just really excited for the release of like our project. Dude, yeah, the the it sounds really awesome.

SPEAKER_03

He he mixed it and he did a really good job. Thank you. And he he also took on the burden of like you know, when you are mixing your own music and you just like listen to it.

SPEAKER_13

Oh, it's heard that resong a hundred times.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, the skeleton meme of like yeah, and then it's like like I don't even know if this is good anymore. I don't even know what I'm listening to anymore. He took that on, so I don't know. Some days you like it, some days you hate it.

SPEAKER_13

I listened to it again. I honestly have been to I took a break probably since like two weeks ago, and today I re-listened to it and I cried in the car and was like, This is sick, this is dope.

SPEAKER_11

Oh shit, you said we were happy with it, you didn't come back and be like, ah, you cried because it was so terrible. That's awesome.

SPEAKER_04

God, I fucking hate this.

SPEAKER_13

I let my emotions just run through and just that's exciting.

SPEAKER_07

Especially that two-week test. Like, yeah, you really give it space and be like, this is pretty good.

SPEAKER_04

Like, I do like day tests when I'm trying out amazing. I couldn't. I just do that and I come back and like is it dog? Yeah, what the fuck?

SPEAKER_13

Which I had done, I did that with our project like for a while. It would be like, oh, it sounds great, and the next day, like, oh fuck, oh fuck, dude, any creative project.

SPEAKER_10

Dude, like the longer you listen to shit, like your ears get like fucked up.

SPEAKER_04

Like it starts to lose like the you start to forget why you wrote it in the first place.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Yeah. But I'm just saying about like the EP, like it's I'm really proud of it.

SPEAKER_04

And it's it's it's weird to think that for as long as I've been in the band, I we've put out one thing with me in the band. Which is crazy.

SPEAKER_02

We wrote like the most music Calconius and Ledwenia. Oh, yeah, Ledwenia. Which is a great song.

SPEAKER_03

Great song that both Calconius and La Duena were when I mixed it. And at that point I was so burned out of like the like production side that I was.

SPEAKER_04

I think that was a weird era for the band too, because like I said, we were kind of like sorta really trying to redefine and like figure out what we were all about. It was a transitional phase, I think, between I mean, honestly, since having me in the band to where we are where we are now, because I I think without with with the original lineup with just you and Alex and Eric and Noah, it was like you you were one thing, and then all this kind of course of time it was like slowly becoming something else. Yeah. And um that's what that era I think of almost as like a like a sort of a big area of like reconstruction.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Because we when uh when wait, that was when Eric was on the band when we started. We were writing, um like we would meet up like a couple times a week in the morning because we had more time at the time, but uh, and we'd like write a new thing every day. We had like two demos. More, obviously, like close to 50, actually. They're all on my laptop. Yeah. Um, but like we kind of were suffering from like the like too many demos to finish. Yeah, we would like start one. Sometimes we'd finish it, but even if we did, we would be like, yeah, whatever. Yeah, you like lose your um, you know, lose focus or whatever. And they're all on my laptop, and uh one day I uh accidentally like drove on the highway with my my laptop on my on the roof of my car.

SPEAKER_04

Oh my god, I never even heard this story. Wait, it was on top of your car.

SPEAKER_02

And you got onto the highway somehow.

SPEAKER_04

We just like went off on the side. I was I was behind. You saw it?

SPEAKER_03

What's crazy, because I was like trying to think of the timeline, but I was like, mad, mad, match, and I was like, save the day.

SPEAKER_04

I still had it, I just never told you.

SPEAKER_03

I I I don't know if that's what happened, but I that one day I was driving, I left my house, and there's like a dip in the road, and like I my car like went on the dip, and I heard like a loud bang. I had stuff in my trunk anyways, and so I was like, whatever. And then I remember being on the highway, and then I thought like a piece of paper flew off the top of my car. It didn't hit anyone, luckily, like it could have been bad. Flew off and it landed on the side of the highway, and like I saw it in my rear view mirror. I was like, oh, that's weird. And then like that night or something, I was like looking for my laptop.

SPEAKER_13

That sucked so bad. Oh, yeah, that was like that happened to me. That's like big biggest fear, bro. That was my sad about that.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that kind of happened to me once when I was yeah, younger, when I was like 19 or 20. I had like years worth of every song I'd ever made. And and like I for I don't even know what happened. Like, I think I uh like I had an SD card with all of it and it got corrupted and it was just gone forever.

SPEAKER_03

Dude, it teaches it. It is a learning experience. And it teaches you to like let go of your attachment. Honestly, yeah, backups.

SPEAKER_04

It it makes you like it makes you like review like how how we you've been like, it makes you like kind of think differently about like restarting and doing like shit over.

SPEAKER_07

What happened when with you?

SPEAKER_13

Um, so I cracked FL Studio, I cracked like a bunch of different you know, plugins, VSTs that obviously like there were thousands of dollars. Like in in a block of all of them, like I would never be able to afford that. But I wanted all the good stuff because I was making like trap beats online.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

And like honestly, the the beats that I made were like so amazing, and they're all in my email still, thank god, because that's how I would listen to them in the car, I would just send them to my email. Like all like the you know, like the the whole, what do you call it? The the like the the stems of it all. Yeah, just completely and all the like the cute songs that I wrote, and like you know, the really shitty rap songs that I wrote, and all the like the great like friends like come over and make like stupid songs and stuff. Yeah, it was just all gone, it was all corrupted. And then I ended up deleting the whole laptop and I gave it to my mother, and then I got a new laptop, and that's just the same laptop I had today. So, and that was in high school, so like senior year of high school.

SPEAKER_04

I I had the same laptop from high school too, which is crazy.

SPEAKER_07

I had a dinosaur stuff saved on Dropbox and I had like a new computer, and I didn't realize that the Dropbox was like downloading everything onto it, like the computer didn't have enough space. So I just was like, oh fuck, so I just deleted it and then like didn't really think about it, and then restored it on a different computer and was like, oh yeah, this is fine. And then like six months later was like trying to open somebody's files, and I'm like, oh my god. Where is everything? And like realized, like, holy shit, like seven years of work is just gone.

SPEAKER_13

Oh, but I will say the the really fun thing about that was all of those stems were gone, everything was gone. So all I had was like MP3, like a wave files. So I would go back and sample. Oh, that's actually a really good thing and it turned into like a new, new, like kind of like era almost. In like, you know, I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we do we do have those recordings, which uh luckily I have all the which this is reminding me that I should get a physical hard drive. Seriously, all of my stuff from the fucking terabyte backup hard drive.

SPEAKER_07

I think there's something to losing everything though, yeah. It's like really valuable because it was like, okay, well, I could give up.

SPEAKER_04

I can remake those songs better.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, I feel like there's a process to that. You have to go through all five stages of grief when you're doing it.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, I didn't make it so like you can't even look at the computer.

SPEAKER_11

You're just like, no, no.

SPEAKER_13

No, I was like that for one. I was heartbroken.

SPEAKER_06

Are there rules around our candy? I feel like every time you bring out more candy, it just encourages everyone to do that.

SPEAKER_04

I've had that before. You've had that before, maybe. I I like I like uh I like it. There's really no rules. I want whatever the most sour thing is.

SPEAKER_11

You can sour. Okay. Spicy.

SPEAKER_04

I don't want none of that spicy.

SPEAKER_11

This one is concerning.

SPEAKER_04

I've had this before too, actually. You have? Yeah, the kid eye nanny got one of some of these before.

SPEAKER_11

So we got uh Alamo Candy, gummy and bloody bears. What the concerning? It's it feels very wet. Uh we got some super lemon candy.

SPEAKER_13

That's not sour. I'll try anything.

SPEAKER_11

We've got the wily wallaby huckleberry licorice something.

SPEAKER_04

I have some of that in my house.

SPEAKER_07

Shout out Rocket Fizz.

SPEAKER_04

Oh my god. Yes.

SPEAKER_11

Um, sponsor us, please, Rocket Fizz. Thank you so much. Um, Kit Kat uh apple pie flavored.

SPEAKER_04

I love that pizza. Yeah, I don't know about that.

SPEAKER_11

Uh pulpurinds, tampook candy.

SPEAKER_04

I don't want to enjoy myself.

SPEAKER_11

Honestly, white rabbit creamy candy.

SPEAKER_04

That looks good.

SPEAKER_11

And then we have Frank's Red Hot spicy gummy bear.

SPEAKER_03

Why why is the podcast called Chaos Agent?

SPEAKER_01

Canadian little Uno reverse gummy bird.

SPEAKER_11

Okay, this is gonna get a little complicated, but so I'm like kind of into like weird. I'm I'm into like quantum shit, like quantum physics shit.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_11

And I feel like so chaos agents, I feel, are people who tend to do like long probability things in their life. They just do the weird things and then it like jot they like get slotted into weird timelines. And so and so then I bring people who I feel are fellow chaos agents of like yours.

SPEAKER_12

Good idea.

SPEAKER_04

I I love that name. Isn't it like the sourist thing ever movie map? You gave me after I did my podcast, you you gave me like oh we don't need to like go. Max already went forward.

SPEAKER_11

And we have a rating system, by the way, out of five bing bongs.

SPEAKER_02

Five bing bonds.

SPEAKER_11

So bing generally. Cheers, cheers. Oh god.

SPEAKER_12

It kind of creeped up on you.

SPEAKER_11

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_12

That's not bad.

SPEAKER_11

That's fucking dope.

SPEAKER_03

I like the like feel it like here.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, yeah, it makes your masters just masters.

SPEAKER_13

I call my mom calls it the tweakers. My tweakers can't say that.

SPEAKER_12

Can't say that, bro. Wait, tweakers? I'm just kidding.

SPEAKER_13

You guys are fucking.

SPEAKER_12

That wasn't that bad. No kidding. It's kind of good now.

SPEAKER_11

That's a problem, like it never lasts long enough.

SPEAKER_04

Those ones you gave me though, like there was one you gave me outrated in my podcast that was like, I don't even know what they were doing.

SPEAKER_11

Toxic waste, maybe?

SPEAKER_04

No, they were like pickle or something. Those were and it just didn't end. No, those were fucking like like foul.

SPEAKER_11

I'll just throw this out here, but the guppers, this one.

SPEAKER_04

What is it? Okay.

SPEAKER_11

It is reportedly chocolate like caramel, but it is not. It just tastes like bathroom cleaner if you it's it's sin in candy form. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Is that like should we just should we try it or like well Max edit?

SPEAKER_02

Max said we should try and let's try it.

SPEAKER_11

We can save that one for less. We could do like so Max, your call, what do you think?

SPEAKER_12

Wait, rating it.

SPEAKER_11

That's that's beautiful.

SPEAKER_02

Frog, yeah. I like the table. Obviously, the packaging makes that. Yeah, this is giving it a little bit. I'm saving my five. You can save mine for a little bit.

SPEAKER_03

It's your classic, like sour than sweet hard candy.

SPEAKER_02

Classic. Yeah.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Alright, what's the next one? Apple pie cake cat, please. Um that one looks well. We're doing it. Oh, okay, okay. I've been eyeing that one.

SPEAKER_09

The apple pie cake at the end.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I'll split one with you.

SPEAKER_13

I'm taking the whole thing, man.

SPEAKER_04

I don't know if I want a whole one, honestly.

SPEAKER_13

Oh, it's white. Wait, white split white.

SPEAKER_12

Oh, oh. It's creamy.

SPEAKER_03

White and creamy.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, we're going. Oh, it smells super.

SPEAKER_13

It smells like Halloween. Mmm. It smells like a candle, like candle. It tastes like. It's pretty good, actually, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Amelia would love this.

SPEAKER_10

Like fruity, like white chocolate?

SPEAKER_04

It doesn't really taste like apple pie, but it's pretty good. I still have the lemon, so it's a good one.

SPEAKER_07

I thought that looks pretty good. It's five bing bong. It's pretty good. This is like if I went into um a candle store and like took a bite. The vanilla. It kind of looks like one too. Three bing bungs.

SPEAKER_03

It's a five for me. I'm gonna be honest. That's like a two to me. I mean, two on the scale of like it's still candy and I I would I would eat it, but not my free choice.

SPEAKER_04

Mm-hmm. Yeah, it's like yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Like a seasonal Yeah, it's very seasonal.

SPEAKER_04

It tastes like October.

SPEAKER_11

It's like crack pumpkin spice.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And it is a Halloween.

SPEAKER_11

Okay. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

That was good.

SPEAKER_11

I mean, I I'm getting a little apple pie. Like vegan.

SPEAKER_04

It tastes like apples, but like I don't know if that qualifies as pie.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Frankly.

SPEAKER_05

Frankly.

SPEAKER_04

I'm gonna be frank. I mean, you can still be Max, but I'm gonna be frank.

SPEAKER_11

Speaking of Frank. Yeah, should we try it?

SPEAKER_13

Should we try the spicy one?

SPEAKER_11

I love one.

SPEAKER_12

Are they all different?

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, they're all different. Sweet, spicy, salty, fruity.

SPEAKER_04

I'm just gonna close our eyes and go for it. Which one's spicy? Are they all spicy?

SPEAKER_07

Okay. Oh, cherry, pineapple, mango, strawberry, orange, and lemon. That doesn't help at all.

SPEAKER_13

They're all probably spicy.

SPEAKER_04

I don't want the salty one.

SPEAKER_07

Well, you're just gonna have to guess. Would you like a food freaking podcast?

SPEAKER_11

This smells like cherry to me, too.

SPEAKER_07

Salty candy. Yeah, I'm with you. I don't think. Are we gonna try that?

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_09

Okay, cheers. Wait, wait. We got the green one. Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_02

I got the lemon one. Spicy gummy bears. Cheers. Cheers.

SPEAKER_11

I cheated already half my. Oh, it's spicy.

SPEAKER_04

Oh yeah, mine spicy.

SPEAKER_11

Ugh. This is like hot sauce, gummy.

SPEAKER_07

I mean, this rank's red hot.

SPEAKER_12

That'll do it. Actually? It's like a weird space. It was pretty good, actually.

SPEAKER_04

Honestly, like.

SPEAKER_11

I'm not mad about it.

SPEAKER_04

I wonder if you'd gotta like it. It was four spices. Do you guys remember the spicy Skittles and spicy Starbirds they used to have? They had like the black packaging. They were pretty good. That was pretty good, actually.

SPEAKER_11

Oh, that does not go to the bottom. It wasn't very spicy.

SPEAKER_03

I'll go three and a half. Actually, for what it is. The spice feels like it's like not like chemical. There's like no like substance to it. Yeah, it's just like sweet, and then also my turns a little bit amino one.

SPEAKER_02

Damn, the seconds. I mean the other one.

SPEAKER_11

Can we just gaslight ourselves into liking? Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Oh shit. Can we try these pulp ones? The pulp.

SPEAKER_11

The tamarind. I feel like we've had these before and you or you hated them so passionately.

SPEAKER_02

Don't carry it, I don't remember. What are they? Tamarind? Tamarind. Is that either spicy? For solidarity. Tamarin? What is it? I have no idea. You mean tamin?

SPEAKER_09

It's like a little orange odd that like. I want to say it's like in Thai food.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Dude, what the fuck? Um I might hate this.

SPEAKER_13

Oh, it's Pauperine. It's like, isn't that like Louisiana? Popurine?

SPEAKER_09

No. Yeah, it's Louisiana. It's definitely Louisiana.

SPEAKER_02

Cheers.

SPEAKER_09

Oh, chili.

SPEAKER_02

Oh. How long do these?

SPEAKER_12

Oh god. It's like Mexican candy.

SPEAKER_11

Oh.

SPEAKER_12

No. No, I do.

SPEAKER_11

I hate this now. I agree.

unknown

No.

SPEAKER_13

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_11

I'm on Elijah's T.

SPEAKER_13

I actually really like this.

SPEAKER_04

Mama birded. Honestly, I will say the more I eat it, the better it is.

SPEAKER_06

That's true.

SPEAKER_13

It's probably like it's like the Mexican candy type of thing. It is Mexican.

SPEAKER_03

Honestly, that's not even that bad. No, it's like got some like chili chili powder on it.

SPEAKER_02

It tastes like you grabbed a piece of gum and put it like on the beach and then like wrapped it around.

SPEAKER_03

I don't I don't know if I would I don't want any more, but no.

SPEAKER_11

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

One big bounce.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, that's gonna be a two. Yeah, I'll say two. I'll do a four. I'm like in alignment with clay on the palettes. I feel like we've had the same.

SPEAKER_04

That's not very good. I'll do that at two. I like that.

SPEAKER_11

That makes me a little sad.

SPEAKER_04

It's not nearly as when I first took a bite into it, I was like, oh my god, this is fucking I want to spit this out.

SPEAKER_11

Can we do like something nice now?

SPEAKER_04

Creamy, radish. Dude, those Huckleberry uh licor licorice are really, really good. Okay, let's let's get it. My dad got me a bag of those from last Christmas.

SPEAKER_03

Dude, there's something about the texture of like licorice that it's just so satisfying.

SPEAKER_11

I love I love black.

SPEAKER_04

Chicorice. I can't say chicfish. Sigorish does sound like a slur.

SPEAKER_11

It does.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, these are huge.

SPEAKER_11

Wow, these are tickles.

SPEAKER_03

You should deliver these at onwards and stuff. What's your most uh controversy not? What's your most cancel worthy uh where do I begin?

SPEAKER_02

Oh, okay, we're cheers.

SPEAKER_04

I've had this before.

SPEAKER_12

Oh yeah. Easy. This is good. Simple, simple too. This is a five for me.

SPEAKER_03

I like that though.

SPEAKER_11

But it's nice.

SPEAKER_03

I'm a bit of a licorice snob, so I would give it a three, too. I'd agree.

SPEAKER_11

Do you like carbo licorice wheels?

SPEAKER_12

Do you like black licorice?

SPEAKER_04

I do like black licorice. I used to not, but I've come around with the growing up. I like those batteries that come in like a paper bag.

SPEAKER_03

I don't remember the brand, but twizzlers.

SPEAKER_07

No.

SPEAKER_13

Red vines or twizzlers?

SPEAKER_07

Red vines.

SPEAKER_13

I don't know. I like twizzlers better, but I used to love red vines and then I got sick one time and I can't remember.

SPEAKER_04

I like the texture of red vines.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_11

It tastes like a vape.

SPEAKER_13

It does. Blackberry Bieber's geek bar. It's huckleberry. Wait, literally is it blackberry? Huckleberry, uh.

SPEAKER_04

Like fin.

SPEAKER_13

Huckleberry.

SPEAKER_11

Okay. Do we want to do like two more and then like I've been eyeing those creamy rabbits?

SPEAKER_13

Creamy candy.

SPEAKER_11

It like, it's giving like hallucinogen just because it's white rabbit.

SPEAKER_03

You don't want to eat the squinkle. I know I won't.

SPEAKER_11

It's also getty.

SPEAKER_03

Oh. Oh, it's soft.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_11

This one I got off Amazon, by the way.

SPEAKER_02

It's a mango. Amazon sponsor.

SPEAKER_05

I don't want to eat chilling.

SPEAKER_13

Bezos. Bezos don't sponsor us. Sponsor?

SPEAKER_02

Definitely. Dude, any candy that has this weird wrapping.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, the rice paper. I feel like I get the impression you have tastes like those tootsie rolls. Like those vanilla tootsie rolls.

SPEAKER_12

I've had these candies before.

SPEAKER_10

You've had that?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's like a rice, like a rice paper.

SPEAKER_13

Wait, am I supposed to eat the coating around it?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's got that rice paper.

SPEAKER_13

I feel like I'm gonna love this one.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, it's so hard.

SPEAKER_02

That's not creamy at all.

SPEAKER_12

Oh no.

SPEAKER_11

Are you serious? Oh okay, I'm okay.

SPEAKER_04

Are they meant to be this hard or do you think they're a little like I don't think they're meant to be this hard?

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I've had this before.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, like see, you might have it's a rice candy.

SPEAKER_01

You probably got it as a rice candy. You're people. Your people love it. I did not mean it that we had a lot of things.

SPEAKER_12

I did not mean it like that. I like it.

SPEAKER_01

I like it.

SPEAKER_12

It's kind of milky.

SPEAKER_01

You would like it.

SPEAKER_12

Actually, it's ruining it for me. Like the technology. I love it, bro.

SPEAKER_04

It's a little too like tough.

SPEAKER_12

But it's so tough. Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_04

Even once it's broken down, it's like I'm chewing on rubber.

SPEAKER_12

Yeah, it feels like I'm not supposed to eat it. Yeah, it feels chemically.

SPEAKER_04

But I like the taste.

SPEAKER_12

It's very milky. Me too. Like immediately I was like, uh.

SPEAKER_11

It does taste one like one of those white Tootsie rolls.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it literally tastes like that.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Which are which are the worst ones it is?

SPEAKER_02

I have to swallow it like that.

SPEAKER_11

But now I need jaw surgery, so.

SPEAKER_13

No, you guys swallow it like that one guy, uh, what's his name? Bivo.

SPEAKER_05

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_12

No. And then he's like he takes up one bite. Dude, have you seen it now? Have you seen it now? He looks totally.

SPEAKER_04

He got veneer facelift. He got veneers, but he looks like a fucking monster. Now he's really chilling.

SPEAKER_02

Oh like no chew. No chew needed. No chew.

SPEAKER_13

He like blew up, did porn for like two months. And then now he's like, he kind of looks like the type of how do you know all this Bebo lore?

SPEAKER_12

I don't know. I think I like some TikTok scrolls.

SPEAKER_04

I'll like me scrolling and I'll see him on with like a fork with like the reddest sausage ever. It's the red sausage. And he's like, nog chimnated, you know how it is. You know how it goes? You can see like the lump go down his throat. He doesn't even react, he's like a big Yeah, I was still like what people can get famous for.

SPEAKER_07

Seriously, Bo man.

SPEAKER_03
