Finding Wisdom at the Innersense™ Founders Summit
Joanne continues the Founders Summit retreat conversations from Miraval Austin with three seasoned salon owners sharing insight on leadership, resilience, and building thriving salons. First, Joanne sits down with Val, who runs her salon alongside her sister Zamira. Together they combined their names to create VaZa, a salon business built on family, trust, and shared vision. Val reflects on the mindset that helped her grow behind the chair, encouraging stylists to see themselves in the top tier of their profession before they can truly reach it.
Building a Curl-Focused Business
Next, Joanne welcomes Allison Bridges, founder of one of Long Island’s leading curly hair salons. Allison shares how an unexpected turn in high school led her to hairdressing, and how working with a curly-haired client ignited a passion that would shape her career. Today she runs a thriving 22-chair salon alongside her husband Tim, leading a team of more than 20 stylists and employees while expanding curl care across Long Island through new locations and education for stylists.
Signs You’re on the Right Path
The episode closes with Robin Sjoblom-Wysocki, founder of Southern Curl in Atlanta, and a second-generation hairstylist who grew up in the salon world. Robin reflects on mentoring stylists and navigating the emotional side of salon ownership. During the Founders Summit retreat at Miraval, she experienced a powerful moment when the number 11 kept appearing—her treatment room, appointment time, and other signs reminding her she was exactly where she was meant to be, reaffirming her commitment to keep teaching, leading, and supporting the stylist community.
