Welcome in to the Casual Chaos Podcast. I'm your host, Jay Ash, joined tonight by my co-host Jeff. Jeff, how you doing, buddy?
SPEAKER_00What's up, brother? How you doing?
SPEAKER_01Doing great. We've got the most uninspiring NFL draft in recent memory that we're uh just three minutes away from, which makes it 757 Thursday night. Looks like a beautiful evening in Pittsburgh. Um, we are a man down here in the pod, so we're gonna do a three-man weave tonight with uh myself, Jeff, and producer Tyler. Producer Tyler, how are you doing tonight?
SPEAKER_02Oh, I'm doing just swell, man. Just swell. Coming off a vacation. So the last week was uh you know a feeling out process, but we're already back and back and ready to go. We got some playoff basketball, playoff hockey. It's been a good week of sports. It's fantastic. Not a good week for gambling for me, but nonetheless, that you know, that happens.
SPEAKER_01It it happens more than most people like to talk about, but uh you know, only post your tickets when you win, never post them when you lose. If you want to post them, check us out on social at Casual Chaos Live. Uh that's called the Segway Jeff. Um we're we're willing and able to talk about your tickets. Get them in on Instagram, get them in on the Discord, um, but we're on all the socials. If you are watching the video pods, we're available on YouTube, Spotify, Apple, or wherever you may pod. But again, Bubba couldn't make it this evening. Um, we're gonna miss him, but uh he'll be back. He'll be back and he'll be better than ever. We've got the Derby next week, so I'm sure he'll be coming in hot with some horse plays. We might actually even see if we can get a special guest on here to chop up uh the sport of kings and the and the run for the roses there. So in the meantime, we were talking about it before the show, and I just alluded to it. There just is a huge meh to this NFL draft. Obviously, everybody's a football fan, so we're gonna tune in. But is everybody on the same page here? Does this seem underwhelming?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, it's uh outside of a couple players, it doesn't have like that high-end talent, right? But supposedly it's it's one of those drafts that's very deep in like the second and third round, you know. So you you could build, I mean, we're calling it boring, and it is, but you can definitely build you know good teams from this draft. So uh for a team like the Steelers, who has three third rounders and uh two fourth rounders, I mean, hopefully they could stockpile some players. So see what happens.
SPEAKER_01Oh, the Mike McCarthy era begins. Oh god. I'm seeing a lot of molten lava um on that graphic. That's I mean, that's just steel town there. Oh, yeah, yeah. Is the NFL aware that Pittsburgh's a tech city now and not necessarily a mill?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that that changed a long time ago, but what are you gonna do? It look it looks cool, you know.
SPEAKER_01So it does. It does.
SPEAKER_00So speaking of speaking in the NFL though, did you see that uh Pickens signed his uh one-year deal there? The franchise tag. The franchise. Yeah. So now now the question is, and I'll I'll pose this to you, Jay, since you're a Cowboys fan. Do you think they're gonna trade him or you think they're gonna keep him?
SPEAKER_01I think they're gonna keep him. Um just because that's Jerry's mentality. Um, he'll feel like he won. Pickens will be Pickens now. He got his money, so he'll blow up the locker room. Um, I'm just looking forward to another nightmare season as a cowboy fan. No, I'm I'm I'm I'm being serious. We talk about this all the time, and you could you could try to convince yourself that it's gonna be something different, but it's the same thing with Jerry every year. He talks about he's gonna make all these moves, he talks about you know, all through the offseason that everything's on the table. And the reality is we come to the draft and nothing's on the table. Yeah. Nothing. Like literally nothing. So you know, the the mock drafts I'm seeing, you know, you you're taking a cornerback out of LSU. Okay, you know, good school, pedigree. Uh I'm not gonna complain. You need you need a secondary. So, but the salary cap's kind of a mess. You're tied up between, you know, Dak at 55, almost 60 million, two receivers, you know, making 80 million. It's fucking crazy. It's crazy. So we'll see how it goes. I I think last year was probably a little bit of uh aberration at the beginning, and you know, they didn't make the playoffs. I don't think they're gonna make the playoffs again this year. Not that this is a prognostication show, but I'm interested to see. They got two first-round picks. Let's see if they can hit on both of them. It'd be a it'd be a nice change of pace. They've had a lot of first-round picks over the last 20 years, and it's not been awesome.
SPEAKER_00Well, a little a little later we're gonna go over the uh the top ten favorites to win the Super Bowl, and we'll see if the Cowboys are uh one of the ten. So that's uh that's called a teaser. We'll get to it later.
SPEAKER_01Do I have a vote in that?
SPEAKER_00Um about whether they're gonna uh be in the top ten? I mean you you could guess if you want. Go ahead.
SPEAKER_01I say no.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01They will be, but we'll see. Is that TJ Watt? Oh, look at this. Look at this. Uh everybody loves the commish.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I love how all commissioners just get booed in every sport. It doesn't matter if you have the best commissioner in the world. Everyone just boos him. Crazy. So he decided to just go with two hometown face, like come out with two hometown guys to make it lessen the blow of the booze. Smart man.
SPEAKER_00It doesn't matter. He'll get booed every time he walks on stage, so it doesn't really matter.
SPEAKER_01Do they have a first round pick?
SPEAKER_00The Steelers?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they're at twenty twenty-one. Twenty-one.
SPEAKER_01That'd be interesting. No chance for taking the kid from Bahama, right? The quarterback?
SPEAKER_02Uh I sure hope not. That would just be great. I mean, you think Rogers just calls him as like date. Even though it's not like he's long-term there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I can't I can't see it, Jay. So I I uh I expect them to actually take a I mean, this is as wide open as their first round has been in a while. Usually you can you can pick you know a couple of positions that they uh they would go after. I don't really know who they're gonna draft this year, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's a receiver, because they do have to get younger in that room.
SPEAKER_01So see what happens. Since we're talking about it and it's on right now, let's just let's just stay on this topic for a second, and you're a Steeler fan, so I'll throw it to you. We we saw Aaron Rodgers last year in the playoffs, and I think everybody came away from it that that's about the best as we're gonna see, right? You're you're not making a Super Bowl run with Aaron Rodgers at this point in his career. Um you could draft a receiver, you could you know beef up the offensive line a little bit, hope the defense stays healthy, but you're still bringing he's gonna be 42 or 43.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. Uh either either is unacceptable. So right.
SPEAKER_01I get it. In ayahuasca years, he's only 38. But with has anybody brought up the fact that he got Mike McCarthy fired, they don't get along, and Mike McCarthy's the head coach of the Steelers. I I'm am I the only one that has this memory, or are they just ignoring it? Because I just can't see how Mike McCarthy's like, yeah, I want to go to war with that guy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, again, he knows it's only going to be one year. I mean, supposedly they're they're on decent terms. So I I don't know. I I don't know, man. I look, do I want him to be the quarterback next year? No. I I would much rather it be Howard. Uh I mean, at least for one year, right? Because like you said, they're not they're not winning the Super Bowl next year anyway. So at least at least see, yeah, at least see if you got anything with him, right? I mean, give him a shot and see if he if he actually has any talent for the NFL. Um, it's not a good quarterback draft, so like we were just talking about, I certainly don't want to see him draft one of these guys in the first round. Um, but I don't know. The Steelers just refuse to do a true rebuild, which is why McCarthy is a coach to begin with, you know. So um I I don't know. I mean they'll be I expect that they'll be competitive next year because they still have talent. Um, you know, I do think, oh, look at Ben. I do think uh I do think the offense will uh I mean, I I I you know, in a way, I am excited that McCarthy is there just because the Steelers will look different. Wow, they brought Terry out too, huh? Holy cow. Um Terry doesn't go to Pittsburgh. Yeah, but he doesn't go to Pittsburgh much at all these days. So that's that's cool to see him there. Um He's back at a season. Oh I I'm happy to make I'm I'm happy McCarthy is there just because at least this if nothing else, the Steelers will look different next year, you know. Um you guys have heard me say, well, at least Ash, you've heard me say for a couple years, I think I think Tom was a good coach, but I think his tenure had run its course. So I I was fine with him leaving. And uh I'm fine for I'm fine with them just being different, you know. He certainly wouldn't have been yeah, he wouldn't have been the guy I hired, but at least it's gonna be different. So we'll see what happens.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Well, let's get into different NBA. NBA playoffs. We had a couple shockers.
SPEAKER_00Um yeah, you know what? Let me let me run down. So here's what I'll do. I'll I'll uh I'll run down each series and then uh they've all played two games at this point. So you guys just uh we could we could get deeper. Let's just do this rapid fire. We'll get deeper into it after this. But I'm gonna I'm gonna give the the teams in each series. You guys just tell me who you expect to win. All right. So we got the Knicks Hawks, they're 1-1, and they're moving to Atlanta tonight. Who do you who do you got in that series?
SPEAKER_01Uh I bet the Hawks. I'm gonna keep the Hawks, especially with the Hawks having a 16-point lead currently. I was just about to say they're whacking right now.
SPEAKER_02I I think the Knicks will keep I think the Knicks will come back and and win that just from being a little bit more seasoned in kind of these moments, played in tough series recently. Um so I I think the Knicks, but man, the Hawks are giving them some problems right now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'll I'll stick with the Knicks. Um uh you know, I picked them before the series. I'll I'll stick with them. Um, Cavs, Raptors, Cavs are up to well. I mean, that's pretty easy, I assume. You guys both got the Cavs.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00All right, Denver, Minnesota. I don't know if you heard Tyler, but uh Gordon uh is out tonight with a calf injury, which usually means he's gonna be out for a few gains. That's not usually a one-game thing. Um that series is also 1-1 right now, um, and they're playing in Minnesota tonight. Who do you guys got winning that series?
SPEAKER_01I'm staying with Denver. I mean, I know it's a big loss, and they're not the same team without him, but um uh I'll I'll just stick with the Joker for this series.
SPEAKER_02Yep. Uh same. I I do think the Timberwolves can maybe give him some troubles like they did the other night again. Um I think one of their guys um who's not much of a scorer, but pretty much said that they can't defend. So if we just make them try and defend, we got something, which I would have would wouldn't poked the bear of a team that won a championship a couple years ago and are pretty damn good. Maybe have the best player on the court. Or definitely has the best player on the court. So um I don't know if that's gonna fare well for him. I think they might uh get the wrath of Joe Joker here in the next two, three games.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean he's he's probably not wrong about their defense, and they just lost their best defensive player, so I mean that's that's an issue. But uh yeah, I'll stick with Denver too. Um Boston Philly, uh series uh moving its way to Philadelphia for tomorrow night. That series is one to one. Who do you guys got?
SPEAKER_02Boston and five. Gentleman sweep, I think. Gentleman.
SPEAKER_01Um as a Sixers fan, I'd love to see the upset. And the other night was a was a great win. I just don't think it's sustainable over over time. So um bar barring an injury on the Boston side, um, I'll I'll stick with the Celtics there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um me too. Um, I mean, Boston shot the ball like crap in that in that game too, but their defense was worse. That was more troublesome to me than their shooting. I mean, Philadelphia shot almost 50% from three-point range. I think they were like 48%. So that's that's I mean, if they're gonna shoot 48% the rest of the series, Boston's in trouble. But uh I'll I'll take uh I'll take the Celtics. Um all right. This series is interesting. Lakers, Rockets, uh Lakers up 2-0, but now the series is moving to Houston. Um, Ash, I'm guessing you're sticking with LA.
SPEAKER_01I bet them. I'm gonna stick with them. I said it last week on the pod that if Houston fucks around and gives them a game or two and Luca can come back and they only need to win one or two with him, they can do it. And here we are. There's there's nothing that gives me confidence going into tomorrow night that Houston's gonna flip this series over the next two games. Um, barring a LeBron injury. That team's obviously confident. I think JJ's a really good coach, underestimated in in most circles, probably. And um, you know, fuck, they might not even need Luca.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I was just about to echo the same thing. If they can win tomorrow night, barring them go to game six, I think you just keep Luca uh rested and see him in the next round. Um yeah, I'm I'm Lakers were my pick pre-uh series, and uh I'll stick with the Lakers.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm gonna flip on this. Um, not just because it's too well, but just because uh the Rockets offense is just a disaster. I mean, obviously game one they played out without Durant, so that was a nightmare for them. But uh they still didn't look good in game two when he came back. Uh I imagine he'll be a little bit healthier, obviously, when they play net you know tomorrow. But uh I don't know. I still don't uh again, I uh Ash, we've talked about this many times. I still don't know why they didn't give Tristan Newton a look during the regular season because they badly need somebody that can uh create offense, you know, and uh they just have nobody, you know, they have nobody. So I'm gonna flip that. Uh I had Rockets before the series started. I'm gonna flip it to the Lakers, and who knows? Maybe I'll end up looking like a moron, but uh we'll see what happens there. Uh all right, Spurs Portland. Um very interesting. Uh Wemby in concussion protocol. Um that series is 1-1 and now going out to Portland. Uh, you guys sticking with the Spurs or are you looking at an upset here?
SPEAKER_02Um, I'm sticking with the Spurs. Sticking with the Spurs. It's definitely God, that was a nasty, nasty bump to the head, though. Um I think that my you you worry more, I think their talent will just outclass the Brit Trailblazers here in this round, but you worry about the next round because it'll face the Nuggets, right? So if he isn't a hundred percent.
SPEAKER_01We got a special guest.
SPEAKER_00He he didn't just get picked, though, right? And I I only caught him like on screen. Oh, okay. I was oh my god, that would have been like the shot of the biggest shock in draft history. Yeah, he ran number one.
SPEAKER_02My god. Hey, we got a special guest.
SPEAKER_01We got a special guest to say hi.
SPEAKER_02What's going on, buddy?
SPEAKER_01Mama's not home and dad has recorded a podcast, so we gotta get involved here.
SPEAKER_02Love it. Who do you think's getting picked here?
SPEAKER_01What do you like for the first pick, Justice? And he's gone.
SPEAKER_02This is an interesting, you know, obviously not to we'll we'll talk about the draft, I guess, in a little bit, but uh I'm interested to see what this kid does. And the NFL.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm worried about him. I I'm I'm worried about him because they did a lot of RPO. I mean, the majority of their offense was RPO, which he obviously can do well, and they obviously do that in the NFL too. But in the NFL, at some point you actually have to throw the ball downfield, and we didn't see a lot of that with uh Indiana. So um, yeah, I'm I'm curious. I'm I'm with you. I'm curious to see what happens there.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, yeah, Tyler, just to get back to the Spurs for a second, I'm sticking with the Spurs too. Um, but yeah, I mean he's lucky because I mean he he basically landed uh chin first, talking about Wemby. I mean, he's lucky he didn't break his jaw so it was nasty. Um it was. Um, this is an interesting one. Uh Detroit Orlando. Uh Orlando sort of shocked the world when they uh won game one, but uh uh Detroit, you know, uh corrected things in game two, and now they're going to Florida uh for game three. Who do you guys got there?
SPEAKER_01Feels like seven and feels like the better team pulls it out. Um Orlando stole game one and then obviously disappeared. I text you last night. We had a tie game at halftime. I took 20 minutes off, came back, and they were down 20. So when they get cold, they're cold. They get frustrated easy, they get into foul trouble, and they're always a hamstring or a rib cage away from one of their three best players not putting in the minutes. So um I wouldn't be shocked if they win the first game in Orlando. Um, but Detroit does this Detroit, this version of the Detroit team, as we saw last year in New York, can play on the road. They seem to have more trouble at home for whatever reason. Um, but that that all said, I just think they are the better team. Um, they are more aggressive, and I'm gonna stick with them and Pickerstaff over a lame duck coach, as far as I'm concerned.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, uh I'm sticking uh sticking with the Pistons. Orlando's not like they're gonna have some kind of home court advantage. It's not like Orlando's crowd is gonna be anything. I'm sure it will be bumping, but it it's like a transport. It's not like a basketball city by any stretch, I don't think. So um if Jalen Suggs is their leading scorer, the Magics aren't gonna have a chance. So if Paulo doesn't take over game um and score into the 25 plus range, I don't think they can win one of these games. Um so yeah, I'm sticking with the the better team distance.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, me me too. I'm sticking with Detroit.
SPEAKER_01Hopefully, this doesn't hopefully this doesn't get aggregated because I'm pretty sure Tyler just called Orlando trance. So that's weird. That's in nowadays.
SPEAKER_02The Knicks have cut that lead to eight, by the way, at halftime.
SPEAKER_00There you go. Happens quickly. Um and then and then uh we don't really need to talk about this series. Uh the Thunder up 2-0 on the Suns, and I imagine that'll be a sweep.
SPEAKER_01So look out for the Thuns for the Suns. Woof.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's that's they could sit there, they could play their second string and just probably still beat them.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00So my own my my only other comment um is uh you know, we've all we all sort of predicted the Spurs and the Nuggets would play in the second round, and uh, you know, we're all still predicting that's gonna happen, but um, I just hope that they're relatively healthy if if they play that series. I mean the Spurs, besides Wemby, the Spurs had a couple other injuries in uh in game two. Um I don't know if they're playing them all or not, but Harper hurt his uh thumb and um I'm uh I'm blanking on the other guy's name, but uh you know, three of their top like seven guys, including Wemby, got hurt uh in game two. So hopefully they're healthier uh tomorrow. We'll you know we'll see how that works out.
SPEAKER_01But that's why yeah, I mean we you want we want to see both of them at full strength, obviously. Um and as long as you do get Wemby and Joker, it's gonna be a series. So um I I I would like to see Gordon come back. But like you said, Jeff, if if he's got a calf, on top of the fact that he's had a hamstring, um you know there's no way they're gonna do it because he's gonna want to play regardless. But we the this has already happened before. Durant hurt his hamstring, then it turned into a calf, then he tore his Achilles. So if they press Gordon, their history will repeat itself. It's almost inevitable. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Tatum was playing last year, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. You can't fuck with the lower leg, especially when there was an upper leg injury to start it all. So it's just overcompensation. You need rest, you need time, and unfortunately, it's the worst time of year to be in this situation.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I didn't I I didn't hear or see what uh gr uh what you know grade the strain is, whether it's a one, two, or three. But if it's anything more than a one, then you probably won't see him the rest of the series. So uh anyway, that's that's a big blow to them. I mean, he uh like we said earlier, he's their best defensive player, and without him, um that's a bad matchup. That Minnesota matchup is a bad one for them, especially if he's not playing. So we'll see we'll see what happens there, but uh it's interesting anyway.
SPEAKER_01So the only acceptable grade there is a zero, unfortunately.
SPEAKER_00So they took Bailey, huh? Jeff took Bailey. All right.
SPEAKER_02Smooth look, by the way. I like the I like the the more classic tuxedo. Don't gotta be crazy. Like this is actually this is you know, not that we're a fashion show here by any stretch, but that's a clean look by my guy. I hate when these guys go up any like craziness on like wearing shorts.
SPEAKER_00And he he went with the sunglasses for a little flare.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, just a little bit, just a little flair. You know it's sunny out there in Pittsburgh, uh You know, eight eight o'clock at night.
SPEAKER_01Dude, that that green room is phenomenal, huh?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Crazy.
SPEAKER_01It really is. That must have taken days to set up. Jesus. I love it.
SPEAKER_00Um all right. Uh anything else on the NBA? Anything else you guys want to talk about with those series?
SPEAKER_01No. Um other than I I do think we're gonna get a fight in the uh Orlando Detroit series. I'm just gonna call my shot there. So if you can put money, if you can put money on that there, I I would say by game four, somebody's throwing a punch.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02Well, if you if you like fights, I don't know if you've been watching the NHL playoffs, but there's it's been a bunch of fights in the NHL playoffs, which is awesome. Um there's some real bad blood out there in several of the series, um, which has been electric. I know most people don't that listen to us probably don't watch the NHL playoffs, but if you're gonna ever watch hockey, watch right now Olympics. When it's meaningful, it's it's electric. Um every minute feels like it's your heart's in your chest or in your throat. It's crazy. Your heart's always in your chest.
SPEAKER_00Well, well, that's a good segu it's a good segue. So uh we just we just did a little recap of uh the NBA. Why don't you give us one of the NHL? How's the first week going so far?
SPEAKER_02Pretty pretty down the middle as far as what people kind of thought was gonna happen for the most part, I would say, Jeff. Um uh in in so far, you got um you got Bruins Sabres. That series is tied 1-1. The Bruins really threw away game one, they were up 3-0, and the Sabres came back and won that game in Electric Atmosphere in Buffalo, hadn't had a playoff game in like 15 years, and the the roof came fully off that place um in game one, but they got waxed last night um or two nights ago, and and they're already down one-nothing in game three. So um that series is looking like the Bruins are kind of in control, and they should be, you know, if things go the way that's going right now, be up three-o. Hurricanes are are holding serve. Um, they're up one-nothing right now. They're up two-0 in the series. Um, Senators really haven't had much juice to give them anything. Um there, uh the Avalanche, which is the the betting odds, your favorite to to win the Stanley Cup this year. They're up 2-0 um in that series. Uh I don't see that changing or flipping. Um, I'm just going through. You guys aren't watching, so we won't do the same as we did with the NBA. Um Golden Knights, Vegas, um, lost a close one the other night. Um, they're type 1-1. Um uh Utah's scrappy, but I still think Vegas, again, just is uh is a class ahead of them. Um so I'll I I'll take Vegas to probably stay stay the course and and win that series with some guys that have been there before, um with them winning the cup a few years ago. They probably got some some more guys than uh Utah has. Uh Oilers Ducks is an interesting series. Anaheim, you know, I think the Oilers were the the fourth or fifth best odds to win the cup before the series, and Anaheim had the worst odds to win the cup. They're tied 1-1 right now. Um and at the end of the day, the Oilers have no defense and no goaltending, and when you get into the big games, you you gotta have that. Um, it's pretty much why they haven't won a cup in the last two, three years when they've gotten there. Um you got Brobrowski on the Panthers, have stood stood on his head, um, and the Oilers can't do said uh that. So um they're in trouble there. Anaheim's talented, they got a lot of um you know skill um that they can give them trouble and score goals, and obviously the Oilers can score an electric rate as well. But if you're giving up a bunch of goals, you just are demanding your offense to score, and that's tough in the playoffs when guys just creases you know, every angle is tighter and everything's uh the checks are different, everything's changing every game. So um I I think the Oilers will win, but the Ducks are giving them fits. Um, so from a betting odds perspective, um the ducks are probably uh still plus money to win that series, but um you would like to have them pre-um series start if they can win, they're going back home and they split in Edmonton. So interesting one there. Um, and then you got the Lightning. Um tied 1-1. Both games have gone to overtime, both games have been pretty electric. Um, teams that don't like each other had pretty much um similar records, same amount of points in the regular season, so two very evenly matched teams. Again, they shouldn't be seeing each other in the first round, but you know, that's not the point of this. Um I I think the Lightning will take over. They really took over the second half of that game the other day, um, especially in overtime. The Canadians didn't have a shot for like the last like 16 minutes of actual gameplay. Um, so I think the Lightning might have found their way there. Um Kucharov got a goal. I think if he can get going on the goal scoring end, um I think they're they're primed up to advance in that series as well. So um only other series. Um Stars Wild um has been a fun one. Dallas is up 2-1. They won a close one again yesterday. Um, we've had a couple double overtime games already that in the playoffs. Um, and I I think the stars will win that, but um, with being up 2-1, but the Wild are very good as well. Um, but I think Dallas will catch one of them, the ones on the road here in uh Minnesota, and then go back home and finish it off um in in five or six. Um and then you got the penguins and the Flyers. Flyers are up 3-0, battle for Pennsylvania. Um, Flyers have just kind of decimated the penguins a little bit, especially in game three and uh two. Um so I I don't see that changing. I don't see a reverse sweep um or anything like that. So um Flyers. That's a that's a Call of Duty term. Um it's a call of duty uh professional gaming term. Um but a reverse sweep. Um I I don't see that happening. So Flyers will probably take that one. And um odds really haven't shifted much in the betting odds um lane. Carolina has jumped ahead of the Lightning, which they were pretty much neck and neck pre-um Stanley Cup playoff start, um, with the Avalanche still being ahead. So um Lightning went up a little bit. So if you are thinking that the Lightning have a chance um to win it, and you do like the Lightning and you like them pre-series at like I think they were plus 400, um, jump on them again because they're plus six hundred. So you just got a couple extra bucks um coming your way if they do end up winning. So um win the cup or the series? Win the cup, win the cup. Okay. So um they're still like the third best odds to win the cup, but um, they have gone down um in theory. So that's kind of the recap right now. We'll keep following along with it. All the games have been pretty exciting, um, kind of outside of the Flyers Penguin series. All the games are pretty pretty fun. Um, so tune in if if you're not watching the NBA. Um there's not much else on. So I don't know. You got baseball too, but playoffs are more meaningful than game 40 or 30 or whatever they're like. All right.
SPEAKER_00Oh, not they're not even there yet. They're like game 24 or something like that. Um, it's a good little recap. And uh yeah, I'm glad to hear the games are going well. So I haven't watched the second of it yet, but I will. I I do uh eventually uh migrate over to it.
SPEAKER_01So um I got Jeremiah Love I got the third period in overtime of the lightning the other night.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's a it's a fun one. If you and if you're in an area that has a game, um obviously the tickets can come sometimes get kind of expensive, but go to one of those games because the the atmospheres are always just awesome. Um so probably for the NBA playoffs as well. It's just a different game. NBA is just a different product than than NHL, but those games are all exciting. I feel bad for love.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I don't like I don't like him going to Arizona either. That sucks.
SPEAKER_02Who's their quarterback this year?
SPEAKER_00I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Probably Brasetta. I don't know. And this is it's a bad quarterback class and a bad running back class. There's not many running backs this year. So like I don't think we're gonna see another one. But maybe in the first round of the room.
SPEAKER_01No, you won't see another one until the third round, yeah, according to the draft.
SPEAKER_00The other Notre Dame back is probably the second best back in the class.
SPEAKER_01So um Love's a Love's a Brighton guy. I'd like to see it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's uh yeah, it sucks. I mean, the Cardinals are just bad. Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad.
SPEAKER_01Did that coach get fired? They got a new coach, right?
SPEAKER_02No, did Ganon Ganon was there, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Did he get fired? I thought they just got rid of Kyler to kind of solve that issue. Speaking of professional gamers. Yeah. Good segue again. I'm looking it up now.
SPEAKER_00All right. Oh, go ahead. I'll wait.
SPEAKER_02No, I'm just seeing it. Mike LaFleur. Oh, that's right. That's right.
SPEAKER_00All right. Well, let's uh we we teased this a little earlier ago. So uh let's just uh I thought it would be fun to take a look at the uh the top of the the odds as far as who's who's uh gonna win the Super Bowl this coming season. Um look look at it right now and then look at it again next week and see if it changes after the draft. So sometimes sometimes it can change depending on trades and things of that nature. So um I don't know. You guys might have already looked looked at this, but uh if not, um who do you think is the uh is the favorite to to win the Super Bowl right in Vegas right now?
SPEAKER_02Rams. Oh Bills.
SPEAKER_00Tyler gets the prize. Rams are plus 750. Um and then I'll just run through these. The Seahawks are plus 900, the Bills and the Ravens are plus a thousand. Why the Ravens are plus a thousand right now, I don't I don't know. Um uh anyway, uh Chiefs are plus fifteen hundred, and then you got the Eagles, the Niners, the Lions, the Chargers, and the Pack at plus sixteen hundred. So the Cowboys miss out on the top ten.
SPEAKER_01Um rightfully so.
SPEAKER_00Anything there to catch your eye? I mean, just uh in passing, like you see in Raven Light.
SPEAKER_02The Ravens, uh I don't know, I don't like the Ravens, but I don't I mean a new coach, don't know how that's gonna all work with Lamar, injury-ridden Lamar. Um I just don't know how that's gonna go. And same thing with the Bills. Like, how's that? I mean, obviously he was in-house. Um, but uh I mean I think the Seahawks might just run it back.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, if they stay healthy, I think they certainly have a good shot. Um I would actually surprise us. They do, yeah. I I was surprised to see the Rams at the top. Um, I don't know. Like I I mean it's it's not crazy, but uh, it did it did surprise me when I saw them at the at number one.
SPEAKER_01So um it it's a it's a it makes sense and it doesn't at the same time. You're you your number one receiver is coming out of rehab. Devontae Adams has had injuries and he's you know another year older, and Stafford bionic and all is still getting older. Like it so at some point in time you've got to worry about the healthier quarterback and that luck running out. He's a he's a machine, obviously, but guy takes it still. Um running back's decent. Defense is really good, but has holes. So, you know, and and obviously there's a McVay factor there. I I I just do I do I want to throw step plus 750? No, I'd rather I'd rather go down the board. I'd rather go to the Chargers to plus 1600, the Niners to plus 1600 Lions. You know what I mean? Just for just for the for the action, I I don't think are the Rams are the Rams two or three games better than Packers, Lions, and Niners? I don't think so going in the next year. Certainly not the Seahawks.
SPEAKER_02So Carnell Tate to the Titans getting some getting some help for uh Cam Ward. I thought they were gonna get a wide receiver.
SPEAKER_01It's a big pickup.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they need some talent.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. But it's it's about as close to a sure thing as you can get in the NFL draft, a wide receiver out of Ohio State in the first round.
SPEAKER_02And I think the Bucks might have gotten the only dud somehow. Oh, he was not a dud.
SPEAKER_01He's just fine.
SPEAKER_02He just had a bad second half. His injury, yeah, he was hurt the whole second way, I think. Just trying to get it.
SPEAKER_01His feelings were hurt. You know, rumor has it Mike Evans, Mike Evans was hazing him. I'm just kidding, I decided.
SPEAKER_02It'll be interesting how he does, by the way. We're on the topic of kind of next year and whatnot, but um I I down on the Bucks. Don't bet anything on the Bucs. I think the Bucs are gonna be under their win total. I do not think they're gonna be very good, and that's coming from a Bucs fan. Um, they're gonna win less games than the Cowboys, I assume. Um I I I think they could have been a top five pick this year if they don't win those first six games um all by one score and the ball flips the other way. They could have won three games this year, four games. Um I just don't think they're gonna be very good next year, unfortunately. Um which sucks because then they're gonna fire bulls, and then you you lost two fundamental pieces of the organization, probably because you didn't get rid of the guy. Um I I think Evans stays if you bring a new guy in, and I think not that Levante is everything anymore, um, but he's still a corner piece of the franchise, and I think he stays a couple more years if you get some new blood in there and someone that he likes. So down on the Bucs. Don't don't even know what they're gonna do today. I think you have to draft a linebacker when you lose that piece. I don't think there's a wide receiver outside of someone that's off the board now to come in there and do what Mike Evans does, and you got a wide receiver last year. So uh I I I see them probably drafting linebacker and just not be very fun.
SPEAKER_00Well, they play in the right division, though. I mean, it's still gonna be a pretty weak division next year.
SPEAKER_02This is true, Jeff. This is true. I forget that that piece, but I just think I mean they lost a lot of divisional games this year, and they were I think they're gonna be worse next year. So and they're gonna lose the locker very quickly with Bulls in there. I think he might be fired before the bye week um next year, whenever that is.
SPEAKER_01Well, all all the mocks have them drafting Sadiq. So I mean, I know Bubba was texting about it that they're gonna draft a tight end and he's gonna lose his mind. Every draft says every mock has them drafting a tight end in the first round. That's not their biggest need.
SPEAKER_02I just don't know their biggest need. I don't understand that at all. Like, who gives a fuck about a tight end right now?
SPEAKER_00Um Giants should take the the kid from Miami. I would take the edge the the edge from Miami if I was them.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean Yeah. Yeah, I don't disagree with that, Jeff. Um both both New York teams have two picks in the first round this year.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I think that the Giants are five this year. They do. The Giants are a five and ten, too. So I mean they're two good, they're two good picks, you know. So um by the way, ABC's got ABC's got the college game day crew doing the drafts. I don't know if you guys are interested in flipping. Um yeah. So um anyway.
SPEAKER_01Um I'm gonna I'm gonna throw one more thing in on these odds just looking at it because I I haven't been looking at it. Are are the are the are the Ravens better than the Patriots and the Texans?
SPEAKER_00I yeah, I don't I mean I don't understand that plus thousand. I it doesn't make sense to me.
SPEAKER_01The Broncos are they better than the Broncos are plus eight, the plus eighteen hundred.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the Broncos?
SPEAKER_01I mean like I'll take I'll take the Texans at plus two thousand. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I I don't I mean Yeah, yeah, crazy stuff. That doesn't make any sense. And and one that to look at, and again, that this is also you know, we're we're early days here, but can the Bengals flip something there? Plus 2500. Um, obviously, um they have their coaching deals as well. I think he might be he's got a foot out the door right now as well. But can they turn it around and show what they did, you know, three, four years ago if Burrow stays healthy? Obviously that's the biggest thing. Um if he's not healthy, they got no chance. But can he stay healthy and does that interest you at you know 25 to 1?
SPEAKER_00I I mean that question alone, though. I mean, how he's been in the league now, what, six years? And I think he's only played one full season, maybe two. Yeah, but so I mean he yeah, I I I just don't know if he is gonna stay healthy. I mean I don't disagree. Uh it's a big it's a big question mark at this point.
SPEAKER_01So as long as he's having fun. Well, he's he's gonna be paid. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Who who does, man?
SPEAKER_02If he doesn't, you know, if he if he doesn't get hit as much, maybe maybe they'll draft a lineman this year and maybe help him stay on his feet a little bit.
SPEAKER_01I like the air, I like the airport. It's an underrated airport. You get in, you get out, it's very smooth, easy to get to ground, get to get to your rent a car, get down to Louisville, you're all set.
SPEAKER_02That's what it's all about, really. If we're ranking these teams by airports, Tampa's up there. But you know, I'm not ranking them by the airport.
SPEAKER_01Best team in the league if that's the case. They're the Patriots. That's it. All right, let's get into the uh let's get into the categories. Yes, sir. Did Bubas in the category plays, or is this is this truly a three man weave here?
SPEAKER_02I have his uh bragging rights. He didn't he didn't get me anything for um for categories, but we can go over his from last week. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Um well I'll start, I guess. Um last week I had the Sixers minus one and a half, and that was a W. Um this week I have the Cavs minus two and a half. So uh Yeah, I'll be surprised if they lose today, but uh Cavs minus two and a half.
SPEAKER_01Last week I also had the Sixers, that was a W. And this week I have the Lakers tomorrow night plus nine and a half. That number makes zero sense to me.
SPEAKER_02Yep. I saw it at 10 and a half. Nine and a half? I had I saw it at 10.5 when I was doing this. So I and I have the same thing. I'm right there with you. Plus ten and a half Lakers. Um this week's last week's I had the Nuggets uh minus six and a half for game one, that hit. Um yeah, I'm with Jay. I just don't understand the team that's up 2-0. I get that they're going away, but that makes sense to me. Three, two and a half two and a half, three and a half. Maybe I get I'll get on board with you, but ten? I when I saw it, it was ten and a half.
SPEAKER_01Unless they're starting Bronny and no one else. It's a one-on-five, Bronny, you know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, did LeBron say he's not playing game three and Bronny's playing? Crazy. And Bubba had um the Dodgers, I think, minus one and a half. I'm not sure if they won or not.
SPEAKER_00They did. They they did, they pounded the mets. Yeah, they pounded the maps. Perfect.
SPEAKER_02So um that's that. And props, we'll jump right into props. Um, he had Otani over six and a half Ks. Um again, not that came in too. That came in, so he banged two for two there for Bubba. Um I had Steph Curry over 34 and a half, he scored 35 points. Um, so bang bang. Uh needed needed one to fall in the in the uh category of props. Um so uh this week I am taking Braden Point in game three um tomorrow night to have a goal over 0.5 goals in the game. Um it's plus 200. Um I think the power play will get going. They find him in the slot. I think he scores a goal. Uh, and I think the the lightning take care of business tomorrow night as well, just on the back end. Giddy up.
SPEAKER_01All right. I have on the way back. Um I had Harmon, Brian Harmon, that is, last week, plus 530 to be in the top 10. And he started Sunday at tied for fourth, and then uh he caught a camel-sized cock and uh decided to let that stick out all afternoon and uh finished, I think, 38, something along those lines. So thanks for coming, Brian Harman. But um, I'll stay with golf this week because um I like it. And I've got Aaron Rye and Figala as a team plus two ten for the top ten.
SPEAKER_02Oh, Arvell Reese, Jeff. Not the guy. He's good though. That dude's legit. Yeah. I was hoping the buck somehow got up to get him, but I had that clearly didn't happen.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's a good that's a good pick for them. I like that pick.
SPEAKER_01Um I like I like the wig jam.
SPEAKER_02Two of the first five picks for Ohio State guys?
SPEAKER_00Uh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um the receiver and him, right? Um uh last week I had Maxie plus three and a half threes. Um he finished the night with three, so that's a loss. Uh this week I'm sticking with the three point theme. I got uh Joker with at least three threes. Uh his plus two twenty five. Um he's been struggling from three recently, but uh, I don't know. I have a feeling he's gonna get hot tonight. So uh plus two twenty five. And as far as the dog goes, I had the Nationals plus 149. They lost 2-0 to the Pirates. So this week I flipped the script and I'm taking the Pirates at plus 129. So that's tonight's game.
SPEAKER_02Excellent. Oh, Kansas City jumping up into the draft. Traded with the Browns. Oh. Who are they going to get? What does that mean? I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I mean, they were at they were at nine, right? So they're they're moving over three spots. That's interesting.
SPEAKER_02Who do you think you can need to go get? It's gotta be a defensive guy, right? Because I mean I just see them drafting up for a running back or a it's gotta be the it's gotta be Bain, no? Yeah, I mean that would make sense.
SPEAKER_00Or maybe they'll finally get him a freaking star receiver again on the team. So I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Maybe those other guys are there.
SPEAKER_01I don't think those other guys are that. You you can't they can't take that kid from Arizona State. They can't. He doesn't stay on the field.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I hear you.
SPEAKER_01He's not he's never put it. Yeah, I mean oh man. You can't do it.
SPEAKER_02Maybe they'll get a quarterback. Maybe Ty Simpson here. I think it's time to find Patrick as a replacement.
SPEAKER_01Last week in the underdog, I had Patrick Mahomes. Um, I'm kidding. I had the Warriors um Moneyline in the play-in game. They won. And this week I have the Phillies tomorrow night plus 130 to snap uh what is it now, a nine-game losing streak?
SPEAKER_00You guys tonight? That was today's game?
SPEAKER_01No, it's tomorrow. Tomorrow.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay. I was gonna say they lost. Yeah. Okay. All right.
SPEAKER_02Very nice. Last week, Bubba had the Cubs. Um, did Bubba go three for three last week? I do not know.
SPEAKER_00That one I don't I don't know. I don't know that one, unfortunately. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02We'll do some research on that. Um, I had the Sabres, Buffalo, um, last game before the playoffs. Um, they lost in overtime. Um, I actually think they lost in a shootout. So um tough one there. Um this week, sticking with hockey. Um the Carolina Hurricanes are plus money. Um, they're clearly the better team through two games. They're 2-0. Um, I I think they take care of business and win game three. Not that it's a crazy underdog, but it's plus 105, so it is plus money. Um so I'll I'll go with the Carolina Hurricanes. Win on the road.
SPEAKER_00All right. Good luck to us all.
SPEAKER_02To all the good night. Bragg and Right. I'm very interested in another frustrating night.
SPEAKER_00Uh or week, I should say, with Bragg and Rights.
SPEAKER_02We'll jump right in. Um, I believe this one was yours, Jeff. Sixers, Warriors, Mets Padres.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I went three and one. The Mets lost to the Dodgers, so Loser.
SPEAKER_02Alrighty. And Jay, you had 76ers minus one and a half, Tyrese Maxi 30, 29 and a half over. White Sox and Tommy Fleetwood top ten after round one. Loser. Lehu Zaher.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Thanks, Tommy Fleetwood.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they moved up three places, Jeff. From six to nine, nine to six.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02They must like third and a four. So I mean again. They must like somebody.
SPEAKER_01They're giving up three picks this year. This fucking year.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I don't know. How many picks? It's gotta be three.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they're giving up their first, and then what'd you say, a third and a fifth? Is that what you say, Jeff?
SPEAKER_02They did give up, um, they traded um McDuffie a corner, so maybe are they going out and getting um what's the other dude from Ohio State? Uh Caleb Downs? Are they just trading up and getting Caleb Downs?
SPEAKER_00Gonna find out right now.
SPEAKER_02Yes, we are.
SPEAKER_01Gotta be defense.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's gotta be Caleb Downs. I mean, that's the only player that makes sense to me. Or the dude from Miami. Oh, they took the corner. Yeah, I figured corner because they got rid of Duffy. But interesting. Well, LSU's a pretty good corner school as well. And Bubba, this was Bubba's here. Um, he had the 76ers, Clippers, um, Cubs, White Sox. Um, I think the Cubs lost, and I think the Clippers lost that game as well. Um, I think that was the first one. The White Sox lost so, yeah, three and one.
SPEAKER_01No, White Sox lost two.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, sorry, one and three, excuse me. Um there. And so reverse reverse sweep. Yep, almost, almost reverse sweep. Um but this week, um, I believe this is Jeff here leading us off.
SPEAKER_00It is. Yeah, is it is it dead on arrival? Do you guys know if the Yankees won? I'm guessing no.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Yankees won by two. Oh, beautiful.
SPEAKER_00Did they really?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, all in two.
SPEAKER_00Awesome. What a country. All right, so I'm I'm a lot, I'm I'm alive. I'm very happy. Um so the Yankees, I got the Yanks minus one and a half. I got the Pirates uh winning um outright, and then I got the Cavs in Denver both minus two and a half. I put this in before I heard that Gordon was hurt, unfortunately, so that that makes me worry a little bit. But uh it's uh 17 to 1, so 25 pays for 50.
SPEAKER_02Early days, but the Cavs are down 10 right now, unfortunately. But it's early game. It's not even midway through the second. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01They had trouble getting through customs. Yeah, it happens.
SPEAKER_02All right.
SPEAKER_01Nice change. Really nice change. Yeah, all these guys have been.
SPEAKER_00How about the Yanks sweeping the socks? Steven, I I don't care if the socks suck, it's just always fun to sweep the socks.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I like it.
SPEAKER_01It's a wonderful thing, except unfortunately, I'm already out of bragging rights. I had the Yankees minus one and a half as well. But I had Schlittler at six and a half Ks. He only had five. Um, so the the return to Boston wasn't all it was cracked up to be. I also have like Jeff the calves and the nuggets tonight, so best I could do is three and one, which will probably happen and which will be good because we'll see if the pirates can win and we can get somebody to win bragging rights here for you, Jeff.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, be nice.
SPEAKER_02Well, I'll go over Bubba's. Um Bubba's got the Pirates plus one and a half, so he's with Jeff there. If Jeff gets that uh Pirates W, he will also hit his side uh with plus one and a half. Uh he's got the Cavs, he's got the Nuggets money line. Um he's also got the 76ers plus seven. Um so that one's obviously the Pirates are you know, that one's got a chance. He needs Cleveland to kind of get going. I I think they will. Um and obviously the Denver game is interesting with the injuries. So that's what we got.
SPEAKER_00Yes, that's that's it that's interesting because he obviously put that in after the injury because Denver is now the dog um on his ticket anyway. So okay.
SPEAKER_02All right. All right. And that is bragging rights. Hopefully we can brag about it next week.
SPEAKER_01Talk about it, talk about it. Okay. Um well, that's gonna do it, right? Is that it? We got any parting shots for the draft here?
SPEAKER_00No, I mean, I don't well, uh other than that Chiefs trade, I mean, I think it's been pretty, you know. I mean, everybody had loved going to the Cardinals, so much so that people thought it was a smokescreen, you know, but it ended up happening. So um, yeah, I think it's been pretty much by the book so far, other than that trade. So yeah.
SPEAKER_02Interesting when Ty Simpson goes or when the next quarterback does go if he if someone snags him today. Um I don't know. Um, and if it is Ty Simpson, I think his stock is definitely raised um postseason. So it'll be interesting.
SPEAKER_00Well, it'll it'll actually be interesting to see where the kid from LSU goes, because I'm sure you guys heard that he played last year with some sort of like nerve issue. That is that right, is that what it was? He had like something pressing on his nerve or whatever.
SPEAKER_02It was pretty much right when you know, right when I told everyone here uh preseason that he was gonna win the Heisman and LSU was gonna be good that day he got hurt, Jeff. And then he just decided he heard our podcast and he said I'm just gonna actually hurt my elbow or whatever it was.
SPEAKER_00Well, it makes sense because he he he obviously didn't look anything like he was the year before that.
SPEAKER_02So he didn't look good at any point last year. Like game one, he didn't look good. So he was probably hurt. So yeah, do you just try and draft the upside guy? Because he is, I mean, everyone thought he was gonna be a top five pick this year. Um and two years ago, he probably would have been a top, you know, a first rounder, like two years ago if he would have come out.
SPEAKER_00Um so so it's weird. He he could be one of he could be one of those guys that if he gets taken in the second or third round ends up being a steal, you know. I mean it's possible.
SPEAKER_02So I mean Brock Purdy's the highest paid quarterback in the history of the NFL, and he was the last pick.
SPEAKER_00That's freaking ridiculous.
SPEAKER_02Crazy.
SPEAKER_01Crazy. Yeah, it's fair. All right, well, that is gonna wrap it up there. We've got some more gold jackets on stage. Always good to see the bus. Um, so all right.
