MLB released the first version of the 2026 Allstar teams. The Jimmies discuss if they agree on this year's picks.
Aroldis Chapman passed Hoyt Wilhelm on the all-time strikeout list as a reliever and passed Joe Nathan on the all-time saves list. Chapman now sits at 10th all time with 378. Should he be in the Hall?
Baseball fans and baseball lovers, good day. Thank you for joining us for another episode of the MLB Clubhouse with the Jimmies. I am here with the Slay Dude, Justin Slay, Wendell Pops Patterson, and I'm Josh Patterson. And over the weekend, we had a couple of great things going on. We had the uh 2026 All-Star rosters released. It was America's 250th birthday, and we had a little bit of history made uh there in Bean Town that we'll get into in a little bit. So let's get it started, fellas. First of all, how was your July 4th weekend?
unknownCool.
SPEAKER_00Hung out at Town Lake here in McKinney, saw some fireworks and what have you. Cooked some burgers and dogs on the grill. Okay. Uh it was a good day.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Slay dude. Yeah, us as well. Went out to Point, Texas. They're east of Towakney. My parents have four and a half acres and burgers, dogs, did a fish fry, shrimp fry, and put on a pretty damn good homemade fireworks show, I must say. Did you? Nice. Absolutely.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Is that that place we went out once before?
SPEAKER_02Or is that different? So funny enough, yes, the town was Point, but that was my great aunt and granduncle that lived out there. And two years ago, my parents moved in. They built the house out in Point, like six minutes from where that house is. Wendell, very good, very impressed. If you say nothing else the rest of the podcast, you've had a great podcast.
SPEAKER_01Where was it we used to go back in the good old days? Your cousins.
SPEAKER_02So your dad's talking about. Yeah, he went out there. He went near what they went out there once, yeah. Yep. It is Point, Texas, and my parents now live in Point, Texas. And I think the population's actually gone down since I've uh moved out there. Yeah, when they moved out there, it doubled. Yeah, exactly. Well no, it stayed the same because my aunt and uncle don't live there anymore. So yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, yeah, very cool. Yeah, we went down to Gerald. Um, Gerald works down there. Uh it was also my niece Chelsea's uh birthday. She turned 11, so we were down there for that. Um, so happy birthday, Chelsea, and happy birthday, America. All right, let's get into a little baseball. Uh, we'll start in the American League. Sleigh dude with some standings, and then we'll go over our American League roster.
SPEAKER_02Sweet boys. Well, uh movement only in one division, so we'll start with that one. That's our Texas Rangers, who down 3-2 right now in the seventh. We are exactly at 500 after hitting our high water mark of two games over 500 a couple times the past couple weeks. But um, you know, we like to lose to teams that are 4150 at home. So Detroit took two out of three from us after we were um after we won Friday night. Well, or excuse me, Thursday is a rare Thursday, Saturday, Sunday series because there was a World Cup game in Dallas Stadium in Arlington. No, talk about that later. But uh so but no, so we are on a two-game losing streak, and Seattle's on a two-game winning streak. So they are a game and a half above us. They're three games over 500, but we've played a couple more games than them. They were losing, I think, four to nothing to Minnesota tonight. I just looked and it's tied five to five going into the bottom of the tenth against the Marlins, excuse me. Uh caught me in Marlin. So uh, but looks like that. Foscue just tied up the Ranger game. I saw that. That was he smoked it too. Pinch hit home run by Justin Foskey. So let's see if we can't do this because we really like to not be good against teams over five under 500 this year, and we're pretty okay against teams above 500. Not that there's many of those in the American League, but we're good when we play those ones. Yeah, both of them, we've done really well.
SPEAKER_00Well, uh well, uh unfortunately they and well, I don't know, unfortunate or not, but the Angels are basically the worst team in the baseball.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, but they swept us earlier this year, right? That they did in LA. So they're kind of our crypt tonight. They're definitely kind of degrom's crimp tonight after giving up two runs in the first, but then he pitched five innings of shutout ball, but he only had 80 pitches through, I guess, four innings of shutout ball. He only had 80 pitches through five innings and didn't look like he was hurt or nothing, but when he was walking off, they already kind of you know shaking his hand, get a mug and all that. He went over a hundred last time out, didn't he? So maybe, yeah, because he went, I think, seven innings. Yeah, because the same thing two-run home run in Cleveland and then had six scoreless. So maybe they're just resting more. I hope that's the case. So if he can never just get through that damn first inning, guys, this year. I mean, you know, I think they say I heard today after his first inning, he's had, I think, 18 first innings so far this year, and he's given up 19 runs. Oh, incredible. So there you go. There's our Ranger note. But we're as of right now, before we see what happens. Tonight's still in that third wild card spot, so at least we hadn't lost that. Houston, game and a half behind us, three games under. They come into Arlington to close out our last series before the all-star break. Chicago, I believe they were last week, if not tied, but they have one game lead right now over Cleveland. They have won two in a row, lost two in a row. So kind of same what's going on in the West. And who really cares about what the rest of what's going on in the central, except for Detroit beating us two out of three times. Tampa Bay getting a little separation. This has just been an up and down between these two all year. What I think two weeks ago, Yankees had a one-game lead, and here we are now, and they're four games down. But yeah, they're two and eight in their last ten boys. So they're gonna need this all-star break more than anything. Hopefully, Judge can continue to get healthy and get back for them.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, a lot of that Tampa Bay fire, because I think they're eight and two in their last ten.
SPEAKER_02Uh maybe three, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So yeah.
SPEAKER_02But they were they had won like six in a row or something.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they're gonna have to nine in a row, they had a nine gamer.
SPEAKER_01Oh, wow. And part of that sucked in their last two games. Yeah, Junior Comanero has hit 11 bombs in the last 11 days. Wow.
SPEAKER_02Well, maybe that's why we're gonna talk about him a little later too, and I will agree with what base bosses say about him. So, but I mean, other than that, guys, I mean, as of right now, one, two, three, four, five, five teams that are above 500, and our Rangers are at 500. So uh Minnesota, though, three games under when you're playing in divisions where it's like that. This Minnesota's only four games out, so uh first. But other than that, Toronto think they got within one or two of 500 when we swept them from four. They continue to struggle seven games under. They need that all-star break too. Actually, they have the same record as Baltimore right now. So uh we'll see. You know, it seems like you know, obviously, obviously, it's about 90, 92 games in, usually, isn't it? Whenever we hit that all-star break. So the second half, like they're saying tonight on the broadcast goes downhill pretty quick. And I think August 3rd this year is the trade deadline. Okay. So we'll have to see maybe over the all-star break talk about who we think are gonna be buyers and who we think are gonna be sellers. But that's what we got in the American League, boys.
SPEAKER_00Nagasaki for the White Sox is on a rehab assignment, so he's gonna be rejoining them soon, probably after the all-star break. But uh that'll be exciting. That'll help them. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And and I mean, they've been playing really well without him, and he was he was on pace to hit well over 40 home runs before he got injured. Uh, we may talk about another couple of White Sox later on when we talk about the All-Star team. Um but uh Slade, if so, if uh season ended today, who's in?
SPEAKER_02Our division winners are gonna be Tampa Bay, the Chicago White Sox, and Seattle. First wild card is New York, second wild card is Cleveland, the third wild card is your Texas Rangers, my friend.
SPEAKER_01All right, I'll take it. I will take it for sure. All right, let's get into a little uh thank you for that, Slated, little American League All-Stars, okay? Uh, before we get started, couple of couple of little snippets about this year's All-Star team. 26 first-time All-Stars on these rosters this year.
SPEAKER_02Hey, that's a good sign for the league, I think.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. 26 first-time all-stars, so essentially an entire team of first-timers. Um, so that's uh that's a pretty cool deal. Uh, Braves, Dodgers, and Phillies each had five uh players going to the all-star, uh, all-star game. Um Freddie Freeman, he got his 10th selection. Yeah, legend pick. We'll talk about that here in a little bit. Sit on the Nationalist National League team. Um, but yeah, so 26 first-time all-stars. That's pretty cool. Let's just go down the American League real quick. Uh, the ones who were voted in, catcher, Shea Langaliers.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01His first All-Star game. A little surprising because he is a banger, dude. Yeah, um, probably top three catcher and certainly in the American League, probably top five catcher in baseball. Uh Vladdy Jr. got elected uh at first base. He did opt out. Um, I guess he's been having some back issues. Uh Ernie Clement got voted in at second. Junior Commonero got voted in at third base. Bobby Witt Jr., their perennial all-star there. Oh, Ernie Clement, it was also his first selection. Sorry, guy. Um, and then this this one I really liked. Mike Trout got voted in again. And to be honest with you, fellas, he he deserved it. I mean, he's having a really good year. Um his 12th all-star selection, which makes him the most of anybody on the All-Star teams this year. Uh, Buck Daddy got voted in, and Aaron Judge, um, and then D.H. Jordan Alvarez, future triple crown winner, maybe. Maybe or clown. Yeah. Um, Twiple Cown. Uh, so a couple little things. Langaliers, 20 home runs. Um first time all-star, but also he's the first A's catcher since Terry Steinbach. First to start the All-Star game since Terry Steinbach in 1988. Um, Ernie Clement, first time all-star. Um, yeah, Commonero, dude. 70 home runs since 2025. Tied for third most in the majors, by the way. He's also in the home run derby. That'll be fun to watch. That will be fun. All right.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So Trout, we talked about him a little bit. 866 OPS this season, 17 home runs. He's pretty good. Um, Nick Kurtz was the one who is going to back up. Um, he's gonna start the all-star game instead of Vladdy Jr.
SPEAKER_00Um he should have been the starter anyway anyway.
SPEAKER_01There's that, yeah. As a rookie last year, 36 home runs and a 1.002 OPS. That's pretty good, I guess. Um, so far this year, he's only got a 949 OPS. Maybe that's why he didn't get voted in.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, maybe that's why he's just the back.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, let's see. Okay, so that's all I got for the starters. Let me find our pitchers for the American.
SPEAKER_00So the most interesting thing to me was the leading vote getter.
SPEAKER_01In the American League? Yes. Okay. I did not see the leading vote getter for the American League. Who was it? Was it Trout Troutsky? No, that's who I would have thought, maybe, but it was Clement.
SPEAKER_00Wow. That's nuts. I mean, that's why not a whole better competition at second base. That's why there was no vote uh runoff or vote vote vote in for a second baseman. He got the nod automatically because he was the leading vote getter. But you know, it's like I I sent you guys the text a few couple of weeks or so ago of how the Blue Jay fans were voting in everybody because I mean Bar show, all those guys were Andrew. Yeah, and he played as many games as we have.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah, they showed up big time for vote day. Um, but yeah, I mean, he had, I mean, he's a solid ball player. He had a he had a full breakout season last season. Y'all remember what he did in the playoffs, having more hits than anybody in history in a single postseason, right? Um, and then he's, you know, he's not he's he's not gonna be a big basher, you know, he's not a Bryce Harper or a Mike Trout or you know, one of those kind of superstars, but he is very much like a Bryce Tarang or a Nico Horner, a guy who's gonna um play really good defense, not strike out a ton, slap the ball around the field, and just accumulate war like like no tomorrow. So uh yeah, good good solid ball player. I like him being in the all-star game. Um so for the pitchers, Brian Baker from Tampa Bay, his first selection. Dylan Sees, oddly enough, for Toronto, this is his first all-star team, too. Um, a roll this Chapman. We may talk a little bit about him later. It's his ninth selection. And our boy Jacob Latts uh for our Texas Rangers, his first all-star selection. Uh, really just for the I would say this is number one, this is his first season where he hasn't spent any time whatsoever in the minor leagues. Um, so that's a good thing for him. Uh, but also I feel like he was one of our like anchors in our pitching rotation last year, whether we needed him for a spot start or you know, uh uh like a long relief situation or or even some high leverage situations last season. And now I I guess he's kind of fully emerged as our closer. Is that basically what we're gonna use him for now? I'd like to see him in the rotation because I feel like he could give us five strong strong innings every time he goes out, but uh as long as he's getting some some playing time one way or another, I'm happy with it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and I think among all qualifiers, I mean relievers and starters, obviously. I mean, starters have a lot more innings. I think he has the best, either one of the best ERAs and the best whip out of anybody that got selected. So that's pretty that's pretty impressive.
SPEAKER_01He has the best ERA of any qualified reliever that's on the rosters.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's that's correct.
SPEAKER_01Hell yeah. Yeah. Uh Parker Mesick, lefty for Cleveland, it's his first selection. Drew Rasmussen, uh his second selection for the Tampa Bay Rays, Joe Ryan for the Twins. My God, they had two going to the All-Star game. Wow. Uh Cam Cam Schlitler got his first nod. Um, I might see him starting it.
SPEAKER_02You think that's the first thing I thought of right there. He's had a pretty hell of a year, so yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh Cade Smith for Cleveland, Ranger Suarez for Boston. That's two Boston Red Sox in the All-Star game, which is pretty mind-boggling. Uh, then Louis Varland for Toronto got his first selection, and Michael Waka for Kansas City got his second all-star selection. Congratulations to him. Like to see some of the old dogs getting in there too. Um now let's get on to the backup or sorry, the reserves, whatever you want to call them. Uh for the AL. You got Dylan Dingler uh catching. Um, he's got a 4.0 war, which is third best among position players so far. Um, and then Adley Rutschman, his third all-star selection. Um 116 OPS plus, so he's doing what he what everybody had kind of expected him to do. Um, the infielders, Travis Bazanna, rookie second baseman for uh for the Cleveland Guard Indians. Uh, it's his first all-star selection. Nicholas Kurtz, we talked about him. Kevin McGonagall, well on his way to a rookie of the year vote. Um, him and Bazanna might be battling it out. Um, that's his first selection, obviously. Uh, then Ben Rice gets his first nod for the New York Yankees, and Miguel Vargas, his first nod for the Chicago White Sox. He's having a great year. Um, outfielders, Randy Arroz Arena for the Seattle Mariners, his third selection. Cody Bellinger for the Yankees, his third selection, and then Riley Green for the T Grays gets his third selection as well. And uh DH's, we got Yandi Diaz for Tampa Bay, um, having a great year. Betting 325, um, which surprisingly slate, dude, you'll like this. 325 is that is actually third in the majors, not first by 25 points. Yeah. So well done there.
SPEAKER_00So Parker Mesick needs to send a thank you card to the Texas Rangers because I'm pretty sure he earned that all-star nod based upon the two games he started against the Rangers where he didn't give up any hits ever or runs.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, probably a couple other pitchers on there, though. They're uh like the entire Houston bullpen and one starter that no hit us the night before we went to that game.
SPEAKER_00They didn't let any of those guys get enough innings for it to matter.
SPEAKER_01Um all right, so uh as far as the starters, we'll start there. Um, anybody you guys disagree with? Or anybody you think should be starting? I guess I'll I'll put it there. Is there anybody that you should think should be starting that's not on there?
SPEAKER_00Uh yeah, I mean, I think the only one, like we talked about, uh, and I'm glad he stepped aside. I don't uh obviously glad he had no business being a starter. Um Kurtz needs to be the starter there, but um, you know, he's so I think that would really be the only one you'd have I'd have a real real serious problem with.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01Um anybody stick out that how about you, Slay, dude? Anybody that you would have liked to have seen starting over any one of those guys?
SPEAKER_02No. Um I agree with Pops. Kurtz definitely deserved it, especially with his on-bass streak that he had. And so have they announced, I mean, who like the since Vladdy stepped out, like who's gonna be the backup for Kurtz? Or did you did you say that? Is there another first baseman that they've already chosen?
SPEAKER_01Not yet. Okay, yeah, they're still finalizing all of that.
SPEAKER_02So I don't I don't disagree with it. I mean, it is always goofy, but I think it's a big part of of the game is to let the fans control some of it, you know. But you know, and obviously at some point it becomes a popularity contest instead of all right, who do we think really deserves to be in this thing? So, but no, I'm happy with it. I think that you know, maybe it's just because we watched them so much all year, and I'm not sure. I think we talked about it before we went live, but you know, Duran for the Rangers, but he's he's had a pretty pretty good year and played pretty much the whole year. But like Pop said, he he just a platoon guy, they don't really have a utility, right? That they're putting out there. I mean, he started at third base tonight. We see him start, I think, every infield position, including first, playing right field the other day. So I think that that that's pretty telling. Yeah, very surprised by a leading boat getter and super excited for trout. And trout wasn't it wasn't just a fan selection, you know, or anything like that. I think that you know, obviously the dude, the dude has earned earned the knock, but he's a little hurt right now. They said maybe he's coming back tomorrow, Friday. Hopefully he can he can get in there and start that all-star game because he deserves it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, for sure. Um Seattle just lost 6'5, so let's go. Oh yeah. Um, so if uh so who do y'all think should jump in there? Who's another first baseman that should jump in there since Plighty's stepping out?
SPEAKER_00Man, yeah. Fat Burger. Give me Fat Burger. Does Burger get in? I mean, he's not having terrible years. He he doesn't, but I'm I'm all in. I'm all in on that guy.
SPEAKER_01I'm just gonna go yeah, yeah. I wouldn't mind seeing Nemo in there. Josh Young. I mean, for a lot of the season, Josh Young's been like top five in the AL and batting average.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean, I think he barely qualifies, but he has been hurt. Yeah, we've seen that. He's not playing today. Yeah, so I mean, maybe that's maybe that's what it is. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, yeah, I mean, as far as first baseman go, I mean, maybe Christian Walker. Um, he's hitting uh a lot of runs, um, doing pretty well. Josh Naylor, uh, I think he's made some enemies over the last few weeks with he definitely has.
SPEAKER_02I don't know, maybe Aranda from Tampa Bay. I mean, they got the best record in the American League.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he's batting 280. Yeah, Wilson Contreras for the Red Sox when he's not trying to fight people. Uh he's gonna be able to do that. Yeah, I think that's gonna uh he's suspended too, isn't he? Uh he was suspended for seven games, but he's in the middle of an appeal right now. But that wouldn't apply to the all-star game if they did decide to uh I know they uh they took uh Cabell or Cabil, whatever they they reduced his a little bit.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and they had yeah, I mean they had him at seven games, they took it down to five. So it's basically a start, right? Regardless.
unknownYeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00You know, you gotta with the pitcher, you'd have to get uh I mean, if you wanted to have a pitcher miss seven games like Contrary. should have to be a 40 game suspension.
SPEAKER_02What if they did that to a pitcher? Like, oh damn.
SPEAKER_00Well yeah, I've never seen them do it. Even if you know when they're on four day four man rotations. I've never seen them do it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. That's that's 20% of their season. They I I don't think they would we would see them do that.
SPEAKER_02But um speaking of Naylor making enemies, you'll see that with the former Ranger catcher and World Series champion. Hedgey was starting that game and him and Naylor were drawing back and forth and they were teammates and like it was a John boy one and Hedges just looks at him because you know freaking Naylor is that turd anyways and F you man F you and Hedgey's like no one likes you man literally nobody likes you and he's obviously played a lot of him right so I mean but like hey man good for Hedgey good for you gotta you gotta wonder if that's gonna uh have any repercussions down the line when Bo Naylor comes back.
SPEAKER_01Tasha's little brother comes back oh yeah because that's why I think well Bo probably doesn't even like his brother yeah regardless if Hedgy's catching over him or not right so yeah Boltz gives Hedgey a fist bump when he comes in you're right and nobody likes that guy yeah no one did grow that would be funny yeah um all right so uh yeah I mean starting lineups I I think we're all in agreement with everybody I mean it's hard to argue with anybody but I think but I think we all know that Vladdy Jr.
SPEAKER_00has not had a great Vladdy Jr season um and Nick Kurtz is uh a lot of a lot of comps to Jim Tomey a young Jim Tomey um I'm a big Jim Tomey fan so I'll have to see a little bit more out of that youngster before I start going that route year and a half into he definitely needs to prove himself a little more yeah I mean you know six Tomi what six over six hundred home runs and number three on the all-time strikeout list so he's almost he's almost there on the strikeout list but far from 600 home runs yeah oh man I did did time Tommy strike out like that I don't remember that oh yeah he was number he's number no he may be number two I think Jackson's one tomey two and done three but I remember tone but I mean tomey played a long time too yeah there yeah yeah for sure but I remember him batting like he was a 300 hitter so that just it's surprised I guess it was a strikeout a home run or that's it you know um but I I do I I remember some years that guy batting like maybe I'm misremembering but I I want to say I remember that guy batting 315 320 having especially like his Chicago years and and his Philly years. Oh yeah I remember Cleveland Chicago I forgot about Philly yeah yeah he was the one who I think uh Ryan Howard had to come in behind Tommy and fill his shoes oh he had a he had he had a lifetime batting average of 276 so he he wasn't he he wasn't Adam Dunn where it was 200 yeah he was hitting 200 with 50 home runs and especially six that many freaking games yeah yeah he but he he did he struck out uh 2548 times that's a lot that is a lot of strikeout uh 100 i mean he played he did play 22 years i mean his uh gosh did he play that long his 162 game average was 162 so he struck out just once a game right yeah yeah that's uh so like the normal for today's MLB yeah what about his walks was he not a big he got a he got a he got a lot of those too because his his OBP was 400 I mean his his career OPS was 956 so what a loser over 22 seasons yeah but you know uh really what held him back from the hall of fame was his 50 stolen base rate he was 20 out of 39 no I'm sorry he was 19 out of 39 so he was less than a little less so he was he was always on the back end of a double steal with Alamar and they always threw him out for that guy yeah yeah um no but he he he walked almost 1800 times too so yeah yeah I because I just I I feel like he kind of goes under the radar for his generation for being one of the all-time greats um because there was I mean there was you know he was playing during the Bonds times and the Sosa times and the McGuire times um and then even you know you had pooh holes jumping in there at the tail end of Tomi's career right maybe Cabrera yeah but you know I wonder how many I mean I'm sure there's more more but for his career his hundred he averaged a hundred over a hundred RBIs a year over a hundred walk out walks and over a hundred strikes strikeouts yeah I believe it and how many home runs a year it's gotta be mid 30s 39 that was 162 game average my god he's good 40 home runs over 162 average over 22 seasons yeah yeah pretty good all right um I forgot why we started talking about Jim Tell me oh Nick Kurtz Kurtz yeah so um any disappointments like people that you would have really liked to have seen get in obviously to put one in you have to take one off the team so I don't know if we want to go that route but is there anybody that you would have really liked to see on the all-star team this year uh yeah I think just being being a bit of a a homer I think certainly Zeke deserved it but you know he just didn't have a position uh as a home and then uh you know I think um he was so bad early in the year uh that's probably why he didn't get any consideration but you know I think young probably earned earned a spot but again who do you take off and yeah I'm not gonna like you say I'm just I'm not gonna I don't want to play that game because right yeah but did Buckson make it did you say that yes he did so buckton uh the two the two uh the twins had two the Red Sox had two and the Rangers just had the you say did Ben Rice make it yep yep all right okay yeah buck daddy's a starter Ben Rice is a reserve um I really would have liked to have seen another White Sock get in either Davis Martin um in the pitching staff or Colson Montgomery I mean Colson Montgomery so far this year has really especially since Murakami went down Montgomery's been the guy him and Vargas right Vargas is a is a big part of that too but Montgomery is like the next Corey Seeger I mean this guy except he's faster and more athletic um but this guy is going to be a force to be reckoned with in this and he actually talks too so that's cool right and and I think he's it seems like he's kind of a clubhouse leader even though he's this is his second year in the bigs you know um he he was up here for a little bit at the end of the year last year but um you know who's tied for third in the RBIs in the American league right now tied for no he's close he's a twin he's from Dallas twin to Tory Hunter yeah no not him but that was close I think he's from Arkansas okay uh but he lives here yeah so yeah they all do after they you know after you live in our isn't josh bell oh yeah oh yeah he has 60 RBIs I'm pretty sure he got 15 against us so yeah he got another 20 against the Yankees for the weekend but or last week but yeah um yeah he's having uh Josh Bell's just a good solid big leader always always finds a place to play and he's always productive um but yeah that's that's the one I would say is Colson Montgomery um you know your big guys made it for the Yanks Judge Belly and and Rice uh maybe Max Fried on the shelf Rodon missed a good chunk of the season Garrett Cole missed a good chunk of the season the one guy that's been there all season long and really getting it done Schlittler made it so um yeah I don't I don't know that other than seeing another couple of White Sox in there I I think that's the only thing I really would have liked to have seen a little bit different.
SPEAKER_02Nimmo just fouled the ball hard real hard into the catcher's nuts they had to stop the game and everything this all time strikeout list is interesting.
SPEAKER_01So the I went down a rabbit hole the other night and I was looking at jazz chishm and trying to figure out how close he was to his 50-50 prediction um he's he's pretty far away he needs a lot of home runs I'm just gonna get about 48 yeah uh th actually 38 but uh close but he had struck out night he struck out 92 times already and I'm like what a loser and I'm like it's almost 100 already so I so who's who's uh leading the league in strikeouts well he's like number 10 and uh what's his name uh wood in in Washington leading the league he's already he's got at that time 125 it was 125 at that time so he's probably 130 now yeah so then but then I got so I go down the all-time list and it was incredible to see you know like a lot of these like Tommy played 22 years but it was incredible to see some of the some of the guys on the on the on the list like like a Rod is number five which I never really thought that he struck but the most surprising thing is two of the top 10 are active oh jeez okay judge uh no trout no two of the top they play for the same team actually they play for the same team okay a lot of years a lot of years horrible and hard harper uh no a little bit north of where they they play northeast had the right team with the judge okay Stanton ding ding ding he ain't even played all year has he Goldie and Goldie oh wow both of those guys have go both of those guys have over 2000 strikeouts career Jimmy Christmas I never thought of Goldschmidt as a big me neither strikeout guy yeah but Freeman's number 26 on the list but the the most one of the most surprising people on this list to me because he's A still active and B he's fairly young but he's number eight 18 on the list is Eugenio Suarez he is he's he's three true outcome though he's home run strikeout or walk yes so he's been in the been in the league 13 years he's only 34 years old and he's just under by the at this and this is current at this point now so but he's just under 1900 strikeouts for his career and his 162 game average 181 wow led the league three times speaking of our should be ranger all starter Zeke is just giving us the lead had a single on 0-2 pitch to give us 4-3 lead oh boy there you go shortening up dude all right thanks to some help from fat burger let's talk a little NL standings pops where we at all so um it was kind of looking like uh that the Phillies might overtake the Braves but uh they both both teams kind of got stagnant and went uh pretty much 500 and the Braves are still holding on to a uh two and a half game uh lead uh the Marlins one of the hottest teams in baseball hard charging they're only three games back so that's pretty pretty interesting uh they are on a four game winning streak uh you see that um clayton mcullen the manager for the marlins pulled yuri perez when he had a perfecto in seven inning yes and they and they and they were leading nine eight to nothing and one nine to eight yep okay yeah yep bad decision coach he'd throw 92 pitches 92 pitches yep all right what do y'all think on that keep them in I mean it's easy to see hindsight 2020 if you know they're gonna give up eight runs yeah give you know I think you got to give him a batter or two anyway yeah you know if he walks somebody or gives up a hit then you then you you you know you take him out right away or um he was just recently off of a lower half injury so there is that right yeah um so but yeah that was that was kind of interesting the Mets have gotten a little bit hotter but uh you know they're still way way behind uh the Brewers continue to win um they're on a three-game hitter they're in the heater they're in the process of uh I believe they're sweeping a double header from the Cardinals right now uh the Cubs um winning but you know they they're not gaining any ground on the Brewers and then the Cardinals looks like uh life has finally caught up to the Cardinals real reality is kind of caught up uh they are uh for the first I think last week they were um they fell out and then by the when we did the podcast they were back in but they're they're outside of the uh the playoffs today uh and then the Pirates uh hanging in there as well but they're not doing anything but I you know I think the the most surprising is not necessarily you know big big surprise right the Dodgers are first team to 60 wins eight and two in their last ten um not surprisingly that surprising that they're doing well but it's just surprising how bad the rest of that division is oh so right right right now they are the only team all right the Rangers are going to just run away with this button soon a three run bomb yep yep so um uh so the the Dodgers are the only team above 500 in that division and the Padres are uh one and nine in their last 10 and uh it's a four 14 game lead for the Dodgers so they are they're yeah putting a pin in that thing uh at the playoff start of the day Dodgers Brewers Braves are the division leaders with the Dodgers and the Brewers uh with the uh buys and cubs Phillies and Marlins in the um in the wild card in that order and uh the Cardinals are a game and a half um out of that last wild card and that's with um picking up two losses tonight so yeah well it is we'll see how it goes but the Marlins have certainly been a fun team making a nice little run of it um and we gotta be honest guys the Cardinals have been a fun team the first half of the season um been exciting especially after all the duty we talked about yeah and I I am proud to eat my words when it comes to the Cardinals I'm glad they're doing a lot better than I thought they were going to so um thank you for that Pops fast Josh just saw something come across my phone Royals tired Tyler Tolberts do up after tying the MLB record with a hit in 12 straight at bats the hell that exactly too too bad that game isn't being uh um broadcast anywhere it's 16 to 12 Royals leading the Mets that is more runs than they've scored in the last month well they scored 15 was it yesterday or the day before against uh Sanchise oh yeah yeah they only got nine off of him but they scored 15 for the game but I can't believe they let him mattingly let him give up nine yeah especially right before the all-star game he didn't want him to make the team all right all right let's go over a little uh national league all-stars we will start with the starters and we are looking at catcher none other than Drake Baldwin his first all-star selection uh first base Freddie Freeman his tenth selection for the LA Dodgers uh second base Ozzie Albys his fourth selection max muncie over at third base his third CJ Abrams gets the nod at shortstop well deserved I think uh for a long time he was leading the majors in RBIs um uh it's his second selection uh Brandon March of the Philadelphia Phillies gets his first nod Juan Soto gets his fifth Andy Pajes is in the starting lineup with his first selection and then of course uh Shohei Otani is the DH I don't think your countryman's gonna get a second year in LA that was pretty bad yeah um so that's all your starters um you know basically the LA Dodgers and Atlanta Braves um going on to the pitchers for the National League Chase Burns no big surprise there his first all-star selection for the Reds Johan Duran for Philadelphia um little surprised it's his first selection uh Ryso Legles for Atlanta his first selection Max Meyer for Miami his first selection uh Mason Miller of course I don't think anybody's surprised to see him in there um he's the it's his second selection Jason Jacob Mizarowski the Ms his second selection this one I think he actually fully deserved um and he might be who we see starting the game you think didn't I did I read something today where he's not going to be on the team he tapped out are you serious it's not on here uh let me I'll I'll I'll I'll see what I can find out but I saw something today maybe maybe I misread the the thing yeah I hope I hope not he leads all pitchers with a 1.47 ERA and 156 strikeouts and eight innings pitched yeah it's a record it is that might be a record a lot of drop third strikes I guess uh Erod is uh got his first nod for the Diamondbacks Chris Sale is in it for the 10th time Christopher Sanchez his second Paul Steens his third uh Logan Webb his third and then Yoshinobu Yamamoto his second selection that's all of your pitchers uh the reserves the catchers for the NL William Contreras for Milwaukee um and then uh we we all kind of know what he's capable of big time leader I think in that clubhouse too um Hunter Goodman gets his second selection for Colorado 27 homers at the all-star break um the only one that has more than him is Kyle Schwarber um so he's up there with the big boppers um infielders Luis Arias he's I think he's one of my favorite ball players in baseball right now um his fourth selection I think he's leading the um or he's he's up there he's second second in the batting average 326 um and he has won the batting title three times before um so yeah Luisa Rayas from San Francisco Bryce Harper fellas his ninth selection and he is your legend pick what do y'all think of that so in prior years it was kind of a guy that was like maybe on there like it was the Kershaw's last season last year right he was the legend pick um you know they had Poohs and Miggy do it in the same year like in 2022 I think um so a little bit different because those guys were in their last you know year uh what do y'all think about Harper being picked as the legend pick I mean I I I don't have to look at his stats but I felt like he was having a year that was close enough to oh yeah being named a reserve that wouldn't you know without happening to be some kind of a super you know funky pick like that right yeah he's got a 906 OPS right now yeah so I mean I you know yeah he just he earned a spot I you know I just I don't know why they call it a legend pick right I think it's because he wasn't on the roster yeah right he wasn't voted in by the players I think don't the players vote for the for the reserves Is that right? I guess.
SPEAKER_00I mean, but I mean who did who did he piss off? I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Well, I mean, you've got so here's the weird thing. You've got um so the starting first baseman was uh Freeman, right?
SPEAKER_04Sure, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Then you've also got in the reserves, you've got Matt Olson with Atlanta, also a first baseman, and you got Sal Stewart with Cincinnati, who can play a little bit of second base, but he's primarily a first baseman too. So of the reserves, and Luis Arias, he has made some uh a lot of uh defensive strides so far, but last year he was a first baseman.
SPEAKER_00So Stewart's probably the Reds only only player, right?
SPEAKER_01Uh on the roster, yeah, I think so.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so that probably had something to do with it. So they they make him the the backup and give uh Harper the legend pick.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um and then Otto Lopez is the last one who has a 337 average. Um, he's the major league leader in batting average, and hits with 117 already. Um, but yeah, um, so there's your your infielders and then your outfielders for the National League. Um no big uh no big surprises here. Corbin Carroll, uh PCA, uh James Wood, and then our boy Jordan Walker, who I believe is the only St. Louis representative on the roster. Uh was PCA? PCA might be the only cub on there. I think it's the only one I heard. Yeah. Skeens. So, and here's we'll get into it a little bit deeper. So, okay, you you can you kind of understand there being a lot of Braves and a lot of Dodgers and a lot of Phillies because those teams kind of dominate their division uh because of their payroll, because of their, you know, the big names on their roster. But you've got four of the five teams in the NL Central, all above that are that are all above 500. And I think they all only had one pick from their team. Am I wrong? I think that's right. So Milwaukee has Contreras, right? The Covens have PCA, the Cards have Walker, and the Pirates have Skeens. Let me double check.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, sounds right to me. Yeah, dude.
SPEAKER_01So I mean, the fucking Giants got two people on their all-stars. The Giants. So I I think you know. Oh no, Milwaukee got two. I forgot about the Miz. Yeah. Sorry.
SPEAKER_00So who's the second baseman for the National League? Is it Lopez?
SPEAKER_01The starter? Yeah. No, Ozzy Albis.
unknownOh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Well, you know, I so I think start right there. How is Tarang not on this team? Exactly. Or or Brandon Lau having a great. And their their player should have been Lau for sure, right? Or even uh and L's not even their best hitter. You know, uh he's got their most home runs, but Brian Reynolds, the star of Deadpool, he's their best, he's been their best best hitter all year, right? So uh obviously Steen's there on reputation alone. So, you know, I think, but Tarang is the one that stands out to me just like what what they have, guys.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um the one that one of the ones that really stands out to me is JJ Weatherhole.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's the that's the other one.
SPEAKER_01Almost, you know, um, especially, you know, you're and again, I told you Arias is one of my favorite players in all of baseball. Um you know, there there are teams that should because only because you have to have one representative, there are teams that should have one representative, and that's it. And I think the Giants are on that list. You're taking two Giants, but only one Cub, and the Cubs are in second place, inarguably the hardest division in baseball. Is there a more difficult division? No, no, there's not. We have four teams above 500 in that division, right? And for a long time, Cincinnati was kind of right there in it, and they just fell to pieces. But um, you know, like I said, I understand getting a bunch of guys from the from the Dodgers, right? The Dodgers could literally be the all-star team, right? Um I understand getting a bunch of guys from the Phillies, a bunch of guys from the Braves. Those teams are having great years. Who where does Milwaukee rank amongst those guys? Yeah, because I think Milwaukee's record is better than Atlanta and Philly, right?
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah. Right. Yeah, there's there's they're second only to the uh the Dodgers.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so Pops, I think you're right. Terang, Tarang should be on the All-Star team every season. He's that kind of ball player, you know. Um I mean, he was like MVP four or something last year in the NL. But uh, and the the the defense that he plays at second base, I mean, he's he's just done. Um, it's kind of the same issue, you know. I I don't know who you necessarily take off. Um PCA's obviously so the Cubs, I will say, have been very streaky, right? A lot of people on and off the I. A lot of people will have two weeks where they bat 800 with 12 home runs, and then they'll have two weeks where they bat 050 with 37 strikeouts. Your your Bragmans and your Michael Bush and those guys. Um, even PCA is a little bit streaky, but um, I think PCA is another guy like Tarang, who you just um, and uh you know, guys like Skeens or Wheeler, um Mike Trout, Bryce Harper, guys you want to see in the All-Star game because they are at the top of the game, right?
SPEAKER_00Um didn't didn't the Cubs have like six six players last year? They did. So that's they're kind of getting there. That was probably a little bit of an overkill, so they're kind of probably getting there. Yeah, they're just just just just due this year. But I just you know, second and same, like second base is there's like nobody in the American League that can play second base, and everybody in the National League is is loaded with Weatherhold. Any other year, Weatherholdt would be on the on the as a second baseman, right? And yeah, him and Tring both watching.
SPEAKER_01Right. Cattel Marte, watching. Yep, probably probably the best second base overall second baseman of the majors, watching Brandon Lau watching. And and we'll see how all this plays out, right? I mean, not that Ozzie Albis is having a bad year, right? Or Luisa Rice, he's he's second in the majors in batting average, so it's not like these guys are not deserving, um, but second base is a powerhouse in the NL. Um, and it's just not the case in uh in the AL. Slade, dude, is there anybody that jumps out to you that you think should be on there?
SPEAKER_02I mean, I agree with Terrain for sure. I mean, no doubt about it, and I didn't even think about it until your pops brought it up saying, What the hell's going on? How is this guy not making it? And yes, and yeah, you're right. I mean, the teams with the three best records or three of the four best records in the National League, you're gonna send a boatload of people, but it's popularity contests, a beauty contest sometimes with these things, and yeah, they're spending all this money and they they're getting it. So, but I'm I'm with you. I think that you know, unless it's just completely obvious that if your team's struggling, having a really bad year, which San Francisco is, you know. Yeah, you should say, hey, okay, I'm happy with allowing one person, but who's it gonna be unless they're voted in? Who are we picking here? Yeah, you know, so but yeah, it's crazy. And think about to pop said it. But yeah, I mean, National League loaded with uh second baseman. Catel Barntay, yeah, dude. That dude hits bombs, man.
SPEAKER_00You know, and I it's it's it's um I don't know. It's just it's interesting to see all the like like terrain. You look at his numbers, his numbers aren't that great. But when you watch Milwaukee play, he is in the middle of everything that goes well. He's hitting behind the runner, he's butting, he's he's starting rallies in the eighth inning. He's stopping rallies, he's stopping rallies with his defense. Yep. I mean, just man.
SPEAKER_01He is he is for sure the heartbeat of that team. And uh, I mean, he's just he's one of those guys you want to see in the All-Star game every year, and on the on the biggest stage, you know. Um, I want to say he started second base for Team USA in the WBC, wasn't he? I I believe so, yeah. It was him and was on there. I feel like I'm missing another second baseman. But anyways, um, but yeah, I mean, just a just a freaking stud. Um, but obviously you can't take every stud out there. So um when it comes down to it, I don't know that there's any what anybody uncomfortable taking off, you know. Yeah, San Francisco is in, you know, having having a terrible year, but Arias is second in batting average in the entire major leagues. Logan Webb is doing Logan Webb things, the same thing he does every year, except he's striking more people out, you know. How do you how do you fault that? But um but yeah, it's it's a little bit of a popularity contest and all that kind of stuff. So um one thing I can guarantee you is it'll be a hell of a lot of fun to watch. And um I really hope who do who do y'all think is gonna be on the on the mound starting it out? Who was it last year? Skeens, right?
SPEAKER_03You know, skins started.
SPEAKER_00He started when it was in Texas, so that was 24. I don't know if he started in 25 or not. Scoobyl? Skeens.
SPEAKER_01Oh skins was I think skins was definitely the NL starter last year. I think I think it was Skeens and Scoobyl Pops.
SPEAKER_02I would have to figure it out this year. Who should it be? Schlitter and the Miz.
SPEAKER_00Yep. Hell yeah. And again, obviously it all kind of depends on how the how the rotation shakes out when their last day is and stuff, but in a vacuum, it should be those two guys for sure. Yeah. It's good to see some good young pitchers out there on the mound. And and they're finally letting some of these younger guys, they're stretching them out a little bit, getting some extra pitches out there, you know, like the Rangers. We were talking about it earlier on the pregame, but you know, the Rangers let DeGrom go over a hundred pitches last last time out. Just you know, just some you know, skeins is of course it hasn't done him any good because he's he's having his worst year, but you know, skeins, yeah, they're letting him get into the seventh inning. Of course, they're not scoring any runs for him, and then and then when they do, yeah, and then when they when they do score runs for him, he seems to figure out how to give up more than they score even then.
SPEAKER_03So it's just kind of bizarro.
SPEAKER_01But uh yeah, he's uh so I Bobby Witt Jr. did uh did an interview recently. I don't know if y'all have seen that floating around the intranet. Um, but uh he talked about Nolan. Obviously, he played with Nolan towards the end of his career. Saw he saw him do like the 3,000 or yeah, 3,000, 4,000, 5,000 strikeouts, I think. Uh no hitters, number six and seven. You know, he got to witness a lot of those big time numbers from from big techs. Um and I mean there were times where I mean there were there were rumors where Nolan Ryan was throwing in a in a game, you know. Just doing what to who? Throwing 200 pitches uh in a nine or ten any game, uh going out there and just like a rubber arm. Um and it's all based on mechanics. And uh sorry, but none of the guys that I see today, I wouldn't say they're necessarily throwing harder than big tech was back in the day. I know it's measured a little bit differently, but uh you see some of the swings those guys took back in the day, you know, it looks like Nolan's getting it up there pretty hot compared to the guys today.
SPEAKER_00But it was all about there was a game that I mean he was rumored where they thought that he had thrown 240 pitches, struck out like 16 and walked like seven, and then and you know, and he went in the in that this was like in the 70s, um, but he was going deep in the count on every hitter. Yeah. Because he hadn't hadn't really uh figured out, hadn't really gotten that uh had the had the fastball and the curveball, but he didn't have the change up yet, so he was going deep on every everybody. But there was, you know, like you like it weren't able to track it and weren't really tracking pitch counts in those days, but uh everybody thought he had gotten 240 and maybe even as much as 270 pitches in a in a single game. But he was never a max effort guy either. I mean it was all very nice and smooth.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's what Bobby Wood was saying is he he would go out there, you'd he'd throw 150 pitches and come and put ice on his back, ice on his shoulder, ice on his elbow, and then get on the bike for 40 minutes.
SPEAKER_00And then get him some bad mail, right?
SPEAKER_01And it was the same thing the next time he started, it was he was just a creature of habit. He he said on his uh seventh no-hitter, a bunch of the guys were going out to celebrate, and Nolan was like, no, I'm gonna get on the bike. You know, um, but it was all about his mechanics, his his mechanics never faltered. Um, he was always so smooth, and that's how how he was able to pitch for so long without any any injuries and stuff. So um, but yeah, that was a pretty cool interview. Y'all should y'all should check it out. Bobby Witt Sr. The Witten Wild. Um But uh all right, so that's that's all I got for the NL All-Stars. So let's talk real quick about um a roll as Chapman. Um over the weekend broke the all-time strikeout record for a reliever with 1,364 career strikeouts. He passed Hoyt Wilhelm on the all-time uh strikeout list. He also recorded his 378th career save, passing none other than former Ranger Great Joe Nathan for 10th on the all-time saves list. Uh is he a Hall of Famer? I know the Hall of Fame does not like relievers.
SPEAKER_00They're starting to come around on them, but yeah. I mean, I think with his rings with the didn't he get a ring with the Yankees in 2009? Yes, yeah, I thought so. And uh and then I know he was on that Cubs Cubs team in uh 16. So, you know, he's got two rings with with some iconic um franchises, and yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um let's not forget about the Rangers in 23. Pretty iconic.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, that's that's right. He's got so he's got three three rings. Yeah, uh it was more in spite of him than because of him in 2023.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, every time he came on, it's hard attack city.
SPEAKER_00Well, they wouldn't they wouldn't even let him pitch in the World Series if I remember right.
SPEAKER_02Oh no, one or two times, and it was I mean, he got the outs, but it was oh stressful, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but I mean, yeah, I I I I think he's all anymore.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. What do you think, Slate?
SPEAKER_02Because of the rings, obviously, I think that is something important that that these writers look at. But I mean, guy, you know, like I said, if they're not not necessarily partial to relievers, but if you have more strikeouts than any reliever in the history of the game, I mean, I think that's gonna put you in top ten saves. Uh yeah, I think that's gotta put you in there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, I and I think this we're gonna start to see guys like him from his generation, I think they're going to be they're gonna have to look at relievers a lot more because the starters aren't going but four or five innings now. The relievers are taking the bulk, um, or at least half the game away. Um, and someone like Araldis, who is your um high-leverage guy, and I mean, what was his ERA last year?
SPEAKER_00Like it was it was stupid.
SPEAKER_03Like 0.71 or something like that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, I mean, and and it's not even relievers, right? It's closers. Yeah, yeah. The guys that are pitching the sixth and sixth, seventh, and eighth, they're not getting any glory, right? It's the starters that go five or six, and then the and then the closers, because there's no really stats for those guys uh in between. So it's it's the closers. But yeah, Jansen's gonna get in. And you know, I thought he was gonna get to 500 saves pretty easily this year. Uh, he may not even get to 480. Yeah, I don't know if you if you noticed the other the other night uh when they were winning three to nothing. Jansen did not come in to pitch the ninth. He did not get into it, he came in the seventh, if I remember right, actually.
SPEAKER_01So I mean he's he's towards the end of his career. Detroit, they can't afford to lose anymore. So I guess if he hasn't been pitching well, I get it a little bit. Um, but yeah, you want to see Kinley Jansen get to 500. Um and uh who knows? He he was beat up a little bit. I want to say he was just he just came off the I. L pretty recently. So um, all right. Well, that's all I got. Congratulations to Rollis Chapman. 1,364 career strikeout. And then two days later, get passed up Joe Nathan. All right, so Pops, give us the worst of the week, real quick.
SPEAKER_00All right, so uh as we a couple of weeks ago, the Yankees were red hot, making up for um um with their pitching, making up for the absence of judge. I'm not sure, but I believe this might be the second week in a row for this guy. But Belly, once again, the loser of the week in the American League. Um two for 21, 095. I believe that was his this is like two weeks in a row that he's had these kinds of numbers. So just you know, five five strikeouts, and you know, nothing crazy there, but uh, you know, just just one one RBI, you know, and that's just not what you're looking for out of your out of your all-star.
SPEAKER_01Um I mean, they did face Minnesota Pivot.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that there's that. Uh and then the National League. Uh, you know, I mean it's not a big name team, but it kind of explains, you know, you mentioned them earlier, them falling off the face of the planet. But uh JJ Blade of the Cincinnati Reds uh pretty much looks like he's a utility outfielder and uh in DH. Uh 4 for 24 with a 167 uh batting average, 259 OBP, and a 426 um OPS, three walks, five strikeouts. Um, but not not a stellar week for them. Uh Cub loser of the week, Nico Horner at second base, uh 227 average, uh 5 for 2022 in the middle of the Cubs Renaissance. Um the pitchers of the week, the losers, again, kind of explaining some of the Yankees' struggles. Uh Ryan Weathers of the New York Yankees, two starts, and he was only able to go a total of five and two-thirds. Innings 9.53 ERA, 2.82 quip, uh, six earned runs, 13 hits, uh uh 0 for two, and then uh an unfortunate choice for me because of his ranger ties, but Martin Perez is kind of a poster child for the Braves struggle this past week. Two starts, nine point nine and a third innings, two strikeouts. Of course, he was never a big strikeout guy anyway, but 7.71 ERA, 1.71 whip, eight earn runs, um, five walks and three home runs. And the Cub loser pitcher of the week. Um, he only made one start, but it was it was against the Cardinals. Uh, he had to take one for the team. He gave up uh 10 of the 17 runs that the Cardinals uh scored on Friday when they won. 17 to 1. So four and two-thirds innings, 10 earn runs, 3Ks, 3 walks, a 24.55 ERA for the week with a 3.27 whip. So congratulations for Cubs on their losers of the week. And there you go.
SPEAKER_01What was the pitcher's name, Pops? Which one was it?
SPEAKER_00David uh Peterson. Yeah, David Peterson. I believe that didn't they just acquire him from somebody? The Mets, maybe? The Mets, yeah. Tobacco for all the hurt pitchers. So this is the guy they got. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Good call. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Good call. Thank you for that. They didn't give up PCA for him.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. They're only all-star. Yeah. I know TJ will love that segment. Uh Slate, who do you got for I I put players in pitchers of the week, but the month's over, so I guess we should just do.
SPEAKER_02Let's go ahead and do it. So let's give him credit where credit's due. I don't think anyone's going to argue with any of these for the month. And June for the American League, Junior Commonero. Yeah. Guys, pretty good. I don't know if y'all know that or not. But uh he hit 291, 26 RBIs, 12 home runs, 16 runs scored. So pretty dang good month for a first place team and the best team in the American League. And TJ, just so you can't always accuse me of crapping on you, anyways. I agree with the National League here, and we all know who he is because we put him in the text, I think, on Friday. National League player of the month is PCA. Guy had a great month, bat 361, 10 stolen bases, 17 RBIs, 8 home runs, 20 runs scored. So very well deserved. Probably gave him that boost he needed for the all-star game, having such a good month of June. And who knows, someone might drop out, maybe he'll start. I don't know. So for the pitchers of the month, we have Drew Rasmussen, another Tampa Bay Ray. So how about that? Tampa Bay Rays win the player of the month and the pitcher of the month, and they're in first place. So I believe what did Rass have? He had uh 31 innings pitched, made four starts, all four with quality starts, had two wins out of it with the 232 ERA. So good job for Drew. And then who else were we talking about a second ago? About a crappy team who maybe thought we only wanted to have one all-star representing them. San Francisco. Pitcher of the month from San Francisco.
SPEAKER_00Logan Webb.
SPEAKER_02Logan Flippin' Webb. So he went four and one, but he had all four quality starts. I think one no decision. So five five or six starts, but 34 innings pitched. He had uh 27 strikeouts. Like I said, uh three wins, uh, but all four quality starts. So congratulations. That's who are the players of the month for June. We'll get back to our regular weekly segment. I guess Pops and Josh will, because I'll be out next week of the players of the week.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. All right. Thank you for that, boys. All right, Slay dude, you said you had some trivia for us.
SPEAKER_02One Ranger Trivia question. So this year, and I heard this on the radio, so it's not like I made it up myself, not as smart as y'all. Not made it up, but you know, just knew this off the top of my head. Mike Trout just took uh this year, he has the all-time number most home runs against the Texas Rangers out of any player to ever play Major League Baseball. Okay. Who did he overtake?
SPEAKER_01Um, I'm gonna say Kyle Seeger.
SPEAKER_02Uh, close. That's not bad though. Is it another angel? He played for the A's, and this was a while ago. Then he left and became uh a legend in New York.
SPEAKER_01For the A's and became a New York legend. Oh, Reggie Jackson?
SPEAKER_00It was Giombi, wasn't it? Reggie Jackson. Or or Jason Giombi. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I'm sure Jason Giombi murdered some Rangers balls over the years. Oh, there's no doubt about that. I was surprised though that it was Reggie Jackson that had before Trout the most home runs ever against Texas Rangers, but I guess he played a lot of years in Oakland.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, yeah. And and he hit a lot of home runs.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00We were talking about him a couple of um weeks ago. Uh he won five World Series in seven years. Jackson. Because he won three with Oakland, 72 to 74. Then uh he spent a little a year with Baltimore and a couple of years with Baltimore, and then he went to uh the Yankees, and then they won in 77 and 78. Yeah. So five rings in seven years. Yeah, um very cool.
SPEAKER_01Also, then played on the Angels along with three other MVPs, right?
SPEAKER_00Um Baylor Carew. Yeah, I think that was one of our trivia questions a while back. Uh Don Baylor, um Rod Carew and Garrett Anderson, maybe. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01No, it was a guy, I think it was someone from the played on the Reds before, maybe.
SPEAKER_00Oh, Jim Abbott.
SPEAKER_01They were it was like 1983 Angels, I think. Jackson Carew, Don Baylor, and or maybe a pirate in the 70s. I don't remember. Oh well. Alright, I got one thing of trivia for you boys. We talked about a roll this chapman being 10th on the all-time saves list. Who are the next nine? Billy Wagner? Billy Wagner is number eight.
SPEAKER_00Hoffman's one, right?
SPEAKER_01Nope.
SPEAKER_00Uh then he's two. Uh Rivera.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Rivera Hoffman. Who did you say, Slate? I said Hoffman. I think I said Hoffman. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Is K Rod on there?
SPEAKER_01K Rod is number six. Oh gosh, I didn't know if he has that many saves. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02John Smoltz.
SPEAKER_00No, I think Fred Lynn. No. Oh, I mean, I I know, but that that was the other MVP that oh Randy Jackson played with Fred Lynn. Sorry.
SPEAKER_02So he so he so he's not top 10, Josh, is what you're saying. I'm not even sure who I'm answering at this point.
SPEAKER_00Who Fred Lynn has zero saves, so he is not on the top 10 list.
SPEAKER_02So we have obviously Chappie, and then we have what do we say, Billy Wagner, Trevor Hoffman, K-Rod. So, yep, Rivera's one, Havera.
SPEAKER_01Um, you said K-Rod, he's six, Wagner is eight, and then Araldus is ten. So you're missing nine, seven, five, four, three. Damn.
SPEAKER_00And number three's Jansen on that list. Jansen's on that list because he's got more than Chappie. Number three.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And then a guy from like the 80s and maybe early 90s, probably even in the 70s, some played for a lot of different teams. Cubbies, Expos.
SPEAKER_00Mike Marshall? Uh-oh. Well, he didn't get a lot of saves. He got all wins. Is Gagne on the list? Gagne? No. Bobby Thigpin, or did he just have one or two?
SPEAKER_01He just had a couple of Bobby Thigpin was the single season record holder for a long time. But as far as career saves, not did Eckersley climb into that list? Yes, very nice. He's number nine for 390. Dang. Yeah, played 24 seasons. My god. Um, Pops Bobby Thigpin is not in the top 50, oddly enough.
SPEAKER_00That 57 he had was must be all the only saves he had is on the room. Uh let's see.
SPEAKER_01One of them's kind of still active. Like he's been bumped up and down with the Braves and stuff for the last year. I think he's currently a bet.
SPEAKER_00Uh is it what's his name? Is it Kimbrel?
SPEAKER_01Yes. Kimbrell is number five all time with 440 saves.
SPEAKER_00Um Kirby Yates. No. No.
SPEAKER_01It's funny. You I think y'all would be surprised. Like, if I went top 20, I think y'all would be really surprised to see who was who was on there.
SPEAKER_00Um are active. We're missing 20 anyway.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we're missing one lefty, kind of a soft pitching lefty um from the Mets organization. Honestly, from what I recall, I think he played his entire career with the Mets. But yes.
SPEAKER_00I think he's also the the the the all-time, you know, the all-time record for most games pitched, period.
SPEAKER_01It wouldn't surprise me, he played 21 seasons, and he was kind of uh like he was an everyday guy for the Met.
SPEAKER_00Pretty much, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, all right, so we're only missing now number four. He played 18 seasons for 19 different teams. Right-handed, big, big black guy, uh 478 career saves.
SPEAKER_00Oh, uh, Lee Smith. I knew that one.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Lee Smith. Um, all right, number 11 all time. We know that's Joe Nathan because the role has just passed him. How about number 12 on the list? Jonathan Pappelbond.
SPEAKER_00Oh, wow.
SPEAKER_01368.
SPEAKER_00I dunno didn't he get into a fight with uh Bryce Harper? Oh yeah, good.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Pops. Do you remember named Jeff Reardon? Oh yeah. Expos Dodgers. So he's number 13 all time. Uh former Angel Great Troy Percival.
unknownYep.
SPEAKER_01Former former Padre Great, at least that's where I remember him from. Randy Myers. Yep. Raleigh Fingers, number 16. Here's where it starts getting fun, boys. Couple of Rangers, Johnny Wetland. Oh wow, yeah. Uh Coco Cordero. Oh wow. Damn.
SPEAKER_00Where's Sixfinger? Six Finger is. He's probably a top 10 blown saves, really, more of those more so than saves.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I want to say he wasn't. I don't think he was a big like closer guy. I think he was more of a real uh middle relief guy. I don't remember him closing. Maybe a couple years like with the Marlins. Um Fernando Rodney, number 19. Remember, he hit didn't he have that crazy good season for Detroit one year? Was it Detroit? I think I think so. And then Roberto Hernandez, y'all remember that guy? I think he was a box, maybe a royal uh Houston Street, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, Oakland A's U T.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I think where did he go after the A's? Was it was he an angel?
SPEAKER_00Maybe. Yeah, he never did, he never did much after he left.
SPEAKER_01No, no. Jose Mason, number 22. You remember him, Pops? Joe Table. Oh, yeah. I think he was uh you remember him, right? Yeah, yeah. Oh, you remember him.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, hard hard throwing writing. Uh then Todd Jones with the Fu Man Shoot for Detroit. Rick Yagillion. Wow.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. On six finger, he played 11 11 years and got 129 saves. 129? Yeah, that's pretty good.
SPEAKER_01He did he he got all of them in about four years in Florida. You know what's crazy is I'm looking at this. So Houston Street's up there, he only played 13 seasons. Same for Johnny Wetland. 330 saves in 12 seasons.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but he he he he closed for some really good teams for the Yankees, and then he came over and was on a couple of division winners with the Rangers.
SPEAKER_01Um Rob Nin.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, another X-Ranger.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, only played 10 years. He was a stud. I wonder if his arm just gave out. Uh yeah, some big names in here. Rod Beck, legend.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. Edwin Diaz is up there. Todd Worrell. Wow.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah. Cardinals.
SPEAKER_01Uh was Oogie or Bina a ranger at one point? I think he I believe so.
SPEAKER_00Ugeth or Bina.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oogie, Ugeth or Dina. Yeah, so Todd Worrell, he was a guy that uh in the 80s, mid-80s, um that when people would send up a left-hander against Warrell when he was with the Cardinals, uh, Whitey would, Herzog would put him in right field. Put who in right field? Todd Worrell. He would put him in right field, and then that then he would get a left-handed pitcher in to uh to pitch to the left-handed guy, and then if they put another right-hander up, uh, then he would put he would bring Warrell back to pitch and bring in another regular player. Really? Yes. And then it all came to a screeching halt when actually somebody hit a flyball in the right field, and and uh Warell went out there farting and fall down, and it wound up costing them the game.
SPEAKER_03God damn it, Warrell.
SPEAKER_01Bobby Thigpin, number 55 on the list, played nine seasons, had a total saves of 201. So he got more than a quarter of his saves once 57 of those in one year. All right. Well, that's all I got, fellas. Do y'all have anything? I'm looking forward to the All-Star game. I know y'all are looking forward to the end of the World Cup.
SPEAKER_02Well, I was until the US got knocked out of it. So yeah, yeah. So we have seven more games left. No, all three of my countries are out. Korea's out, Mexico's out, and U.S. is out.
SPEAKER_03Damn it.
SPEAKER_00I didn't know what to do anymore. Yeah, none of the none of the host nation teams are still alive. Yep. They all lost in a round of 16.
SPEAKER_01So who's gonna win it?
SPEAKER_00France.
SPEAKER_01France? Did both of y'all say that at the same time?
SPEAKER_00Pretty much.
SPEAKER_01Okay. All right. Well, I mean, let's go, Jean-Claude Van Dam. Ready? Actually, he's from Belgium.
SPEAKER_02He's from Belgium. That was the only thing that made that loss a little bit okay for me, was knowing that Van Damme's country beat them.
SPEAKER_01So I mean, the good news is Van Dam could kick any one of their asses. Oh, dude, you kick a soccer ball a core a mile. Yeah, and their heads right off the body. All right. Well, thank you every thank you. We gotta get a little JCVD in there. That's right.
