Revelation 2:1-7
Today we explored the first church Jesus spoke to in the book of Revelation, the Church of Ephesus. They were a church filled with many good works. They had rooted out evil in the church, and they had not fainted in their labors. Yet, Jesus says that He has something against them---they had left their first love. From this, we took a look at our own hearts. If this first century church, that had faced so many trials and were doing so many things, if they had lost their first love then we ought to take a look at ourselves. Pastor Troy asks the question, where has my love gone. Do I truly and sacrificially love Jesus and others like I should? What is my motivation for doing the work that I do?
Pastor Troy has been in a series series on Worship for a while, but says we will be taking an extended break as the Lord sees fit during the start of this new season. For January and beyond, we will be focusing on the Vision of the church, praying that God will help us to reach the Shumont community and to grow as a church. Pastor Cory is also making his way through the book of Ephesians in his messages, but is taking a break from that as well during this season. The calling for every Christian is to take the gospel to the ends of the earth. Well, where does the earth begin and where does it end? For us at Bald Mountain Baptist Church, the world begins in the Shumont Community on top of a little peak in Buncombe County, NC. Our prayer is that through this platform we might do our part in reaching the ends of the earth with the gospel!
Sing unto the Lord a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof. Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains.
