π transcript β awkward dog and the great big splash πΆπ¦πΎ
awkward dog was no ordinary pup.
his ears flopped in different directions, his tail wagged at the wrong moments, and his feet... well, they never quite agreed on where to go.
but he was full of joy, full of bounce, and full of heart.
and whenever something went wrong (which was quite often), he had a special catchphrase:
"i'm ok!" πΎ
his best friend, oopsie kitty, was small, stripey, and liked to sneak around with quiet pitter-pats.
she was curious and clever, but a little nervous too.
one bright morning, awkward dog and oopsie kitty were zooming along the beach, chasing the wind and giggling at seagulls.
awkward dog suddenly spotted a flock of birds andβzoom!βoff he went!
"wait for meeee!" called oopsie kitty.
but awkward dog didnβt hear.
he was too busy galloping through the sand, tongue flapping, tail flying, barking with excitement.
then β splorshhh!!
awkward dog had run straight into a giant ocean puddle.
not a little splash.
a big, cold, soggy splash!
water sloshed over his ears, and seaweed draped across his nose.
he blinked.
he blinked again.
then he popped his head up with a grin and said,
"that was unexpected!" π²
...and then added, proudly,
"i'm ok!" π
oopsie kitty gasped, then burst out laughing.
"you look like a sea monster!"
"rawr!" growled awkward dog, doing a wobbly dance in the puddle.
but as they sat on the sand drying off, awkward dogβs ears drooped a little.
he glanced around.
some beach-goers had seen his splashy fall.
a group of crabs were even pointing (probably) and giggling (probably).
oopsie kitty noticed.
"you're a bit quiet," she said softly.
"i was trying to look cool," muttered awkward dog. "and now i look... floppy."
oopsie kitty put her tiny paw on his wet one.
"well, you do look floppy.
but you also look brave.
it's pretty brave to fall and say 'i'm ok.'"
awkward dog thought about that.
then he stood up, shook himself like a washing machineβ
(oops, sprayed a pelican)
βand grinned.
"next time," he said, "i'll try to splash with style!"
oopsie kitty nodded.
"and i'll try to trip a little more quietly."
together, they strolled off, tails twitching and paws leaving funny zig-zaggy prints in the sand. πΎ
because everyone stumbles sometimes.
but what really matters is what you do next.
and awkward dog?
he always bounced back with a smile and a wag and a big, happy:
"i'm ok!" πΆβ¨
π reflection questions
β what do you say when something unexpected happens?
β do you ever feel awkward after a fall or mistake?
β who helps you feel brave when you're feeling floppy?
π note for grown-ups
unexpected things happen all the time β for all of us β but for neurodivergent kids, whose big feelings, desire to get it just right, or sensory sensitivities can make even a small mishap feel like a giant catastrophe.
and staying out of a shame spiral? not easy β for any of us.
and itβs often not about the puddle or the fall β itβs about what comes after.
this story gently supports the shift from βsomething went wrongβ to:
"that was unexpected... and thatβs ok."
instead of shame, awkward dog models playful recovery, resilience, and self-kindness β with a little help from a friend.
by inviting kids to name their surprises without fear, and bounce back with a smile, we help grow confidence that isnβt shaken by every slip.
because every fall is just a new way to rise. πΎπ
awkward dog and his catch cry βiβm okβ were created by one of our own brave sparks.
we love this goofy character so much, we think he deserves his own series β because honestly, thereβs a little bit of awkward dog in all of us.
stay tuned for more awkward dog momentsβ¦ and thanks for listening πΆπ§π
