EP 205 Listener Q&A: Am I Making My Business Too Complicated?

[00:00:00]

Welcome. I'm so glad that you've joined me for our latest listener Q and A episode. So on our last episode in the podcast, we were talking about the five systems that all service-based businesses need. So I'm not sure if this latest question that I received is in relation to systems or more just business mindset as a whole.

But either way, it's definitely one that I think all of our listeners can relate to. So I'm really excited to jump into it with you today. So today's question comes from Kelly, and her question is, am I making a business more complicated than it needs to be? Ooh, this is a good one. So first, let me say, Kelly, that I love that you've submitted this question and you're definitely not alone.

As [00:01:00] business owners, it can be so easy for us to overcomplicate things and sometimes just get in our own way. When it comes to running and operate a bus, operating our business, we're wearing a lot of hats. And as the business changes, I won't even say grows, but just as it changes, there's more that's being required of us.

And so sometimes it can be very easy to try to take on everything and try to do everything. So let's think of an example of this. So one thing could be, as we were talking about recently, systems. It could be that all of a sudden, you know, we're seeing colleagues and fellow business owners we're thing, seeing things online that are talking about.

All of the new fancy systems, fancy tech, AI, all of the different platforms with the all-in-one features and functions. And don't get me wrong, I love technology and I know that it can be a great resource and asset in our business. However, it can also be [00:02:00] something where we can succumb to either a shiny object syndrome or a situation where we feel obligated like we should.

We're shoulding ourselves into needing all of the things. All at once, and that can generally be a slippery slope to overwhelm town. And so what I would encourage you to think about is why, what made you ask this question? What feels more complicated to you at this moment in your business? What feels harder than it should?

And that normally is a great place to get started and lean into a little bit further. And I would encourage you to see are there opportunities to streamline what you're doing in those respective areas of your business? So maybe it's a workflow or process that feels like it has too many steps. Maybe there are redundancies that you find maybe there are tools and resources that you're using that serve the same function, but perhaps you're only using.

One [00:03:00] segment of a tool A, and in tool B, you're doing a different step when really tool A could fully accomplish both of those tasks. So a good way to do this, like I said, is first to start to identify what feels overwhelming or complicated in the moment. But then from there, just really. Audit that part of your business, the process, the function, the responsibility, the task, et cetera.

And by slowing down to really start to understand what am I actually doing in this space? How many people are involved, how many tools or apps or resources am I using? It will help you gain a bit more clarity around what is aligned and what isn't. And then from there you can really start to. Unravel the process and start to make things less complicated.

Because sometimes by stepping back, by reassessing what's going on and stripping things back to the base layer, it can really allow you to [00:04:00] build what is going to be most helpful, impactful, and really reducing that stress, overwhelm, and complication. So again, that was a great question. So thank you Kelly for sharing that with us.

Hopefully this was insightful and gives you a great starting point and some next steps for being able to see how can you really start to. Streamline what you're doing and make your business feel less complicated because it really does not need to be that way. And for the rest of our listeners as well, maybe this is shining light on an area in your business that maybe has felt a little bit heavy recently, and this would be a great opportunity for you to assess that a little bit further as well and see what stands out for you.

And so, as always, feel free to find me on Instagram and follow me and DM me at Leandra Creates. I'd love to know what resonated with you in this episode, and additionally, as we go through the [00:05:00] season, I will be responding to more of your questions.
