Welcome to our Holy Week timeline from Palm Sunday to Resurrection Sunday. While some debate the exact order of the events of Holy Week, this timeline represents what happened on the most holy days of the Christian calendar. Following the steps of Jesus from Palm Sunday to Resurrection Sunday, we'll walk through the major events that occurred each day. Day one, Triumphal Entry on Palm Sunday. On the Sunday before his death, Jesus began his trip to Jerusalem, all the while knowing he would give up his life for our sins. Near the village of Bethphage, he sent two of his disciples to look for a donkey and its unbroken colt, and he instructed them to untie them and bring them to him. Jesus sat on the young donkey and slowly, humbly made his triumphal entry into Jerusalem, fulfilling the ancient prophecy in Zechariah 9:9. Shout, daughter of Jerusalem, see your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. Well the crowds welcomed him and waved palm branches and shouted, Hosanna to the Son of David, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. On Palm Sunday, Jesus and the disciples spent the night in Bethany, about two miles from Jerusalem. Bethany is where Lazarus lived, the one he rose from the dead. He lived there with his two sisters, Mary and Martha. They were Jesus' close friends and likely hosted Jesus and the disciples during the days leading up to Jesus' death. The triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday was a significant event that foretold his death and resurrection. We celebrate the event every year on Palm Sunday. So looking back, here's what happened: Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a borrowed donkey's colt. His disciples spread their coats on the donkey for him to sit on, and huge crowds welcomed him, shouting, Hosanna! Jesus entered Jerusalem and went to the temple courts. So why was this significant? Well, first it fulfilled a prophecy in the Old Testament. It showed Jesus' humility and it foreshadowed his death and resurrection. It's a reminder for us to welcome Jesus into our hearts and to follow him. This has been day one of Holy Week from Palm Sunday to Resurrection Sunday. He is risen. Risen indeed.
